I'll take them both for Peavy and Nava packing for a lottery ticket prospectManramsclan said:It could be that they are haggling back and forth between Grichuk if the Sox add more $ in the deal or Craig if they take less. Craig does have a team friendly deal but it still amounts to $31 M over 6 years.
I'd rather have Craig.
There's been some speculation about his foot. He's signed through 2017 with an option for 2018. 6.2 per.InsideTheParker said:Craig (or anyone else on the Marlins, Cards, or Braves) must be depressed at the prospect of being traded to the 2014 Boston Red Sox.
Is Craig the one folks are saying is injured? What is his contract? (Or does it matter, if it saves $ for the Sox on Jake Peavy?)
SouthernBoSox said:Due to his complete inability to play right field I really don't see how Craig fits in.
How do you figure? He would most likely play LF mostly, but he can play RF.SouthernBoSox said:Due to his complete inability to play right field I really don't see how Craig fits in.

I like Nava but Craig has a pretty sizable advantage in realistic upside.SouthernBoSox said:Are we trading Gomes and Nava? 2 of the players that have actually been producing in recent weeks.
If he hits lefties better than righties, then he's a possible Gomes replacement, not Nava.MakMan44 said:I like Nava but Craig has a pretty sizable advantage in realistic upside.
Craig had a wRC+ of 144, 125, and 140 against RHP from 2011-2013. He's an everyday LFer, not a platoon player.InsideTheParker said:If he hits lefties better than righties, then he's a possible Gomes replacement, not Nava.
I'd be all over that....conceivably two future starting position players for two superfluous pitchers.jimbobim said:Craig would be a very nice pickup. I would not be surprised if its Peavy and Doubrount for Craig and Grichuck.
We eat the rest of peavy . I'll give them Drew or Carp if they want.

Hahaha, save...the Red Sox have to score runs for that to happen.Corsi said:If he hugs Papi after his save tonight, we'll know he's gone.
Yeah there is no way in hell the Sox include Koji in a Craig + prospects deal. If they do then Boston's system is probably getting reloaded.Hank Scorpio said:If the deal is Peavy for Craig, the Cardinals are getting fleeced here. There has to be more, right?
And for the record, if the Cards are getting Koji, I want Wong, Tavares, Rosenthal and a PTBNL (Wacha) in return.
BosRedSox5 said:I know Craig is struggling this season, but there's speculation that is related to an injury. From 2011-2013 he was absolutely outstanding. That's a period of about two and a half seasons and he slashed .312/.364/.500/.863. OPS+ was 136, and his spray charts seem to indicate that he uses the whole field. He did all this while being a supersub in 2011 (played 6 different positions) and moving between LF, RF and 1B from 2012-2013. He's had a good amount of big league success. I'm kind of scratching my head on why people around here seem so down on him.

Because they have viable replacements. Like a lot of them, that have been discussed in this very thread.Merkle's Boner said:I'm not sure how the Cardinals give up on Craig right now without a viable replacement. They are in the thick of the wildcard race, no?

InsideTheParker said:Perhaps we are shy about injured players after Victorino. If we got as much from Craig as we got from the Torino, I'd be thrilled. But the injury is worrying. Also, the Cards are nobody's fools. They let Mujica go, how's that working out? If Koji is truly on the block, I guess Mujica's the closer. Oy vey.
That's not just raising the white flag, that's making a serious effort to get the #1 pick next June. His AAV for this contract is 6.2 million, I would hardly call that an albatross.Tyrone Biggums said:Perhaps but if we are looking at current numbers Craig is under contract for a few seasons at a decent contract by his previous production standard. If he produces as he is now for the rest of the contract he becomes an albatross. Relievers have a major market at the deadline. Not to mention if they win a World Series the year prior and continue to dominate. Unless the return is great you don't trade Koji.
For a guy who is hitting well under replacement level currently it's a bad contract. If he rebounds then obviously not. It's a solid gamble for peavy. But not for Peavy and KojiDarnell's Son said:His AAV for this contract is 6.2 million, I would hardly call that an albatross.
