Shane! Come back Shane!
It's crazy how we now suddenly might have a logjam of decent players on this team. A month ago, you couldn't make a lineup without several dead and multiple guys who really needed to be benched. Now Victorino will come back as an everyday player, so who sits? Drew, Bogaerts and Bradley are all suddenly showing signs of life at the plate. You can't bench Holt, the way he's playing. Nava's been hitting well recently, and Gomes just belted a big HR.
Looks like Mookie will go down, but what happens to the lineup? We have a lot of versatility suddenly too, thanks mostly to our MVP Barack Holt. I hope they will just rotate one guy out each day based on matchups and who needs rest. Seems like the most logical thing. But then if Middlebrooks really does come back in a couple days, things will be really crowded. I don't even see how they get him back onto the roster, much less into the lineup. And if he is going to sit on the bench then he should just stay in Pawtucket. But it sure sounds like he is coming up as soon as he can.
I am skeptical that Victorino is ready to play well in the majors after all this time off, but if he is, he is a huge piece that's been missing from this team offensively, defensively and on the bases. If he can play well, we might actually have deep depth again, for the first time this season. Until the next injury or slump anyway.
