Today's rehab results with the PawSox (vs RHP Dylan Axelrod):

1st - Flied to RF on a 1-1 pitch
3rd - Ground out 6-3 on a 2-2 pitch, ending the inning and stranding runners at the corners.
5th - Pinch hit for by Corey Brown
I was expecting:

7th: injured leg or back

I almost feel like they need Victorino back more than Buchholz at this point. It really sucks that he can't get healthy.

They really need something on offense to spark things. Brock Holt! is but one man.

The pitching has actually been decent - good even - overall, but the offense has really tanked this year. Any help they could get there would be awesome.

Hate to say it, but this guy is shot.  I remember watching one of the playoff press conferences last October when Victorino got out of his chair and winced in pain like every bone in his body hurt.  I told my buddy jokingly, "He's gonna need about a year off".  Well, it's been about 8 months since then with very little baseball activity (21 games) and he's battled through the thumb surgery, back spasms, recurring hamstring injuries, left knee sprain, and now priapism apparently.  It's getting increasingly difficult to have him continue to occupy a place on the 40 man roster, especially with the state of our outfield.  I almost feel guilty for suggesting this, but do we at least need to start considering this a sunk cost and making other arrangements?  Is he even tradeable at this point?

Eh, he turns 30 in August. But yeah, I'd probably dump Butler before him, and they have an open spot anyways.

Knuckleballers mature late and last a long, long time. Wright is just an infant -- don't give up on him, or he'll go all Dickey on you.

Butler is a competent player at a skill position. He's an asset, probably for trade, or possibly as a backup if one of Vazquez or Swihart crashes and burns.

Hassan is jetsam.

As soon as that ball left the yard I though Vic had earned his contract on a single swing. I still feel that way. I'm just thankful he sacrificed his body for our amusement. Get well soon Shane.

Shane! Come back Shane!

It's crazy how we now suddenly might have a logjam of decent players on this team. A month ago, you couldn't make a lineup without several dead and multiple guys who really needed to be benched. Now Victorino will come back as an everyday player, so who sits? Drew, Bogaerts and Bradley are all suddenly showing signs of life at the plate. You can't bench Holt, the way he's playing. Nava's been hitting well recently, and Gomes just belted a big HR.

Looks like Mookie will go down, but what happens to the lineup? We have a lot of versatility suddenly too, thanks mostly to our MVP Barack Holt. I hope they will just rotate one guy out each day based on matchups and who needs rest. Seems like the most logical thing. But then if Middlebrooks really does come back in a couple days, things will be really crowded. I don't even see how they get him back onto the roster, much less into the lineup. And if he is going to sit on the bench then he should just stay in Pawtucket. But it sure sounds like he is coming up as soon as he can.

I am skeptical that Victorino is ready to play well in the majors after all this time off, but if he is, he is a huge piece that's been missing from this team offensively, defensively and on the bases. If he can play well, we might actually have deep depth again, for the first time this season. Until the next injury or slump anyway.

Shane Victorino would make a hell of a fourth outfielder.

I love Vic but I seriously doubt his hamstring/back is really healed. I also hate that Mookie is going to be the guy sent down.

I'm of the opinion he should have to demonstrate over the next 10 days or so that he's healthy rather then rushing him up for this season critical stretch. I hope I'm wrong but I think the odds of him grabbing his hammy trying to beat out a hit or prevent a DP is high.

Yes, and the best we can hope for is that they will DL him when it happens instead of playing with 24 guys for a week.

How many more times do the Red Sox need to activate guys early from rehab or extended Spring Training or Boras' Spring Training before we admit that we have a premature activation problem?
