I don't agree with that. Nobody knew the market for corners at the time. Talib took a one-year deal last year because it was a depressed market for corners. Now that it is a big market for corners, he's going to want to be paid. I can tell you that he would not have been happy with the tag and don't want an unhappy Talib in your locker room.tims4wins said:
I agree. It is 1 year, and it also extends the negotiation window.
Yeah, and that's pretty much the offseason if he's taking close to $12MM of cap room. That's taking a big risk on Talib all things considered.RedOctober3829 said:I don't agree with that. Bennett will make $28.5 million over four years. He gets $10 million in 2014, $16 million through the first two years, and $21 million over three.
Of the total, $16 million is guaranteed. It’s unclear how much is fully guaranteed beyond the first year.
It’s an average of $7.125 million per year, less than the $8.5 million average the Vikings paid to defensive end Everson Griffen on a five-year deal. Griffen has one career start, and 17.5 career sacks, all in the last three seasons. Bennett has 23.5 sacks over the last three years.

Not sure the cap ramifications, but I would get those are also the cap numbers?
This is awesome for the Seahawks given what that guy for the Vikings got. Evidently he turned down more money from two other teams to stay in Seattle.

I think it's going to be hard to improve the 2014 team if they lose Talib. He's too good.
Why do you say that? Free agency hasn't even started yet.rodderick said:Delmas to the Dolphins on a one year deal up to 3.5 million. I'd kick the tires on him at that price. Looks like we're going with Harmon full time.

soxfan121 said:Talib's first six games of 2013 is not his true talent level; he's unlikely to play that well again. I think the Patriots defense is better when there is a true LCB to work with but I highly doubt Talib is that guy or that he'll play enough to be worth it.
I think there are plenty of ways to improve the 2014 defense without Talib. We agree on the cap room thing - signing TJ Ward and Jared Allen would improve the defense in 2014. Having Jaime Collins on the field more often should improve the 2014 defense all by itself. Armond Armstead is going to be an All-Pro because of all the reps he got with my RFP team. It's a sunshine day.

The #Patriots will gain around $2.87 million in cap space from treatment of Brandon Lloyds option and settlement with Jon Fanene

No, obviously I see that Delmas will sign with Miami. My question to you is why do you think Harmon is the full-time SS just because Delmas signs with the Dolphins?rodderick said:
It's been reported all over, PFT, Schefter, Rapoport.

It's a good thing Week 1 is 6 months away.rodderick said:
In hindsight it was kind of a dumb thing to say, bu I just thought Delmas was one of the "Patriot-like" signings they could look into at safety, and now he's off the market. I don't see them shelling out money for Ward, Whitner or Byrd, and they have more pressing needs to address early in the draft. Obviously, it's way too early to say that, by I wouldn't be surprised if we went into the season with Harmon playing a prominent role in the defensive backfield.

Contract negotiations between the New England Patriots and Julian Edelman are ongoing as the start of free agency inches closer.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Patriots are making a strong push to retain the wide receiver entering the final 24 hours of the legal tampering period. If a deal is not reached in time, Edelman will be free to sign with another team Tuesday at 4 p.m..
Edelman is said to have a healthy market and his negotiations with the Patriots remain fluid. It is not known if the two sides are nearing a deal, but the source said “the music is still playing.”
Edelman, 27, played all 16 games for the first time in his career last season and finished with 105 receptions for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns.
Edelman returned to New England last offseason on a one-year deal worth a little more than $1 million.
SMU_Sox said:It certainly gives them more wiggle room with restructuring, Phragle - that's a roughly 20% bonus to what we have, right? Not bad. That plus restructures = room enough for a CB1 (Talib or otherwise) and a few other goodies. After Talib who is your other highest priority?

Minor detail, but (fully) guaranteed dollars would be spread evenly over the four years for cap purposes.soxfan121 said:From the news thread:
The first two seasons, in total, seem to be guaranteed. So yes, the salaries would be the cap hold in each year. The lack of a formal signing bonus (the $10m/$6M split incorporates the bonus as salary) means he costs nothing in dead money to cut, but the $5M salary in year year suggests they can keep him if he's still productive. Almost no chance he sees year four's $7.5M, given the sheer number of other extensions the Hawks will have needed to do in between (Wilson, Sherman, etc.)
And yes, this is a massive hometown discount when you compare it to the Vikings/Griffen deal.
SMU_Sox said:Sorry, I meant after Talib who is your next target in general, not just cb.

I forget the exact details, but I believe they were hoping it would heal on its own.Ed Hillel said:
Why was this done today? Did they have to wait for it to partially heal or something like that? Swelling in the area to go down? Not sure how long that would take.
Rad?
Yup. Tried rest and recovery and it didnt work.Corsi said:I forget the exact details, but I believe they were hoping it would heal on its own.
Are they going to sign Ron Brace and waive Kelly to have more room to get Revis?RedOctober3829 said:https://twitter.com/nepd_loyko/status/443239637809917952
