Random observation but I am pretty sure that they only wore blue pants and shorts for the last few training camps, but I am seeing gray pants this week. I know they wore the gray pants once last year, I wonder if we'll see them a bit more this year.

Demario Douglas continuing to ROAST guys. I think he's going to be a big part of this offense.

Slightly off-topic, but I wonder if these type of joint practices will be televised at some point. My initial guess is 'no' because there may be some proprietary signs and signals being used that teams don't want to be broadcast. The Patriots know a thing or 2 about that (sarcasm).

On the flip side, the NFL loves content and people who are clamoring for football will absolutely tune in.

I think they can address this by not making them available live. They could edit them into 1 or 2 hour segments. NFL network or HBO should definitely have a plan. These are probably more entertaining than actual preseason games.

The practices are already open to the public, so no real concern about sign stealing. It's unclear if the production cost would be worthwhile.

Somebody here on SOSH described him as “the weapon on offense we wished Marcus Jones would be. If he could run routes.”
This handsome devil?
Yeah- based on the reports out of camp so far, he sounds like he could at the very least replace Marcus Jones on the offensive side of the ball (with the added benefit of actually being able to run routes).

A lot can be said about the post-Brady era but one thing I’ve really enjoyed is watching BB upgrade the speed and athleticism of this team. Guys like Douglas, Marcus Jones, Cunningham (if he makes the team), Mapu, Dugger, etc. are exactly what this team needs to keep up with the rest of the league in that department.

It is interesting to watch. Seems like he still prioritizes a lot of the same traits: smart, born leader/team captain, positional versatility. It's just like he added "not slow" to the list and maybe even gives an extra look to "and has playmaking speed".

He could have channeled his inner David Lee Roth and said, ”It’s not rocket surgery.”
Is that a David Lee Roth line? I use it all the time and nine times out of ten it fails but that tenth time it's like magic.*

*that tenth time it's like magic one of the all time great SNL lines.

That reads to me like a "Shank" hit piece trying to create controversy when there is none. Frank Reich seems to indicate that he lacked the positional flexibility the team was looking for along the DL and they wanted to give him a chance to catch on elsewhere. Space eating NTs are a dying breed I think it is as simple as that. To try and infer there was something happening behind the scenes is a bit ridiculous.

They just extended Godchaux, he is uncuttable. I would think Carl Davis would be the most threatened here.
Volin (I know) had this to day today about Guy:
One surprise veteran cut could be the 33-year-old Guy, who sat out mandatory minicamp over a contract dispute. He did not take the field with the defensive starters during the team’s preseason game Saturday — Barmore got the nod over him — and later had trouble containing Packers rookie tight end Luke Musgrave on a 14-yard run.

The Patriots would save $3.3 million in salary cap space, generating only $250,000 in dead money, by releasing Guy, who is under contract through the 2024 season. It might be time to give Roberts, a 2022 sixth-round pick and practice-squad player last year, a chance. His pair of bone-headed penalties Saturday shouldn’t overshadow his solid camp.

We'll never know.
Pats waived McCall today due to failed physical.

Would be worth investigating a Trey Lance buy low trade IMO. He can do the things Malik Cunningham can do in terms of being a gadget QB but he'll be better at it than Cunningham at the moment. Cut Cunningham, put him on the P-squad to run scout team/develop, and keep Lance as the primary backup with Zappe as the emergency guy.

It is so worth a shot. The Pats could even exercise the 5th year option on both him and Mac if they wanted to and their QB cap hit wouldn't be unreasonable. And if Mac stinks this year, you just exercise it on Lance if you like him and give him a chance next year.

Maybe you try to trade Zappe for Lance? Zappe has to be better than what the 9ers have backing up Purdy, right? I assume Lance is being moved because of chemistry reasons; he can't possibly be worse than Darnold. Right??

That's GREAT news. I was beginning to fear we wouldn't' see him until October.
I wonder if we will see him at RT or RG.
Carl Spackler was getting reps at RT this week... so hopefully MikeO will be at RT. Some of the young G's (e.g. Hines) have flashed a bit per Lazar.

In 13 true pass sets, Hines has allowed only one hurry in extended preseason action. He has the foot speed to work up to the second level on combination blocks, is an effective puller on long traps, and has shown great awareness in pass protection.

QB cap hit for both of them would be similar to Pat Mahomes. You must have a different definition of unreasonable.

You’d have two first round picks at a total of 40-50M. No matter what almost every team in the NFL is going to spend that much on the position in total.

0 qbs have a cap hit over 40m this year. In 2024 right now there are 7 and 2025 there are 9, so that isn't close to true. Mac plus Trey would be a minimum of around 45 and potentially more for 2 guys who they wouldn't seem to have much confidence in either one (because if they did they wouldn't be paying the other)
