The last few years, Felger's big thing about the draft is that you don't know for 3 years how it turned out. That, and their lack of desire to do any work (especially from Mazz, who has admitted to not even watching the games he covers, although he's now at least forced to when he's on NESN) is why every year they throw markers at a magazine to make their draft picks.

And yet at the same time they've been saying Belichick gets fired this year if he doesn't have a good draft. So I guess it now all has to be measured in a single year, not three.

I wasn't going to listen to them tomorrow anyway, but after they traded down and took a Guard, lol, good luck to any who dares it. I know criticism from Mazz, the guy who blasted the Chiefs for drafting Mahomes a few years ago, will be hard hitting.

But you have to admit, the show tomorrow is going to be wildly entertaining.

The callers specifically; a number of them today gave him rankings of 2, 0.0, 4, 3 in terms of 1-10 as far as trust; after this massive reach of a pick, he's going to get murdered tomorrow.

I made it 20 min before turning it off. Patriots are beyond stupid, even if he's great it doesn't matter he 100% would have been there at 54, guards dont matter etc. etc. etc.

I’m serious. It’s such an easy take. Colin wrote it, Curran wrote it, even Phil Perry kind of wrote it. They’re usually a bit more creative than that.
Wow, ok. In fairness, I’ve barely listened to them for last couple of years. But my recollection is if there was a lazy, cheap, negative hot take to be had regarding any of the local teams, that’s exactly what they would do.

Felger's take is this is classic Bill from his Cleveland days; his theory was you build from the middle of the field out, centers, guards, safeties....................this was true 25 years ago, not today.

He then went on to say Bill told him at a function back when Felger covered the team that you can get guards anywhere, can get them off the street, yet here he is using high draft capitol on a guard, one this is a safe pick, you can hide a mediocre guard vs a mediocre defensive lineman, so it's a safe pick.

Not sure you can hide a mediocre guard who gets blown up on passing plays and can't open holes in the run game.

The three of them today are in their glory over this.

Gasper is on today and he said he would have taken the linebacker from Utah with the 21st pick.

These takes from them are obvious and predictable. Still, I wish someone would remind them of the fact that for 20 years, the Patriots had a QB that was (and still is) the best ever in terms of pocket awareness and pocket mobility. The one sure way to make that QB have a bad game? Generate inside pressure by rushing 3 or 4. In one Super Bowl, the Pats starting LG played on a bad ACL; in another, more infamous one, their right guard left the game with an injury.

One year, the Pats took a left guard with the 4th overall pick in the draft. The other Hall of Famers from that first round were...., get ready..., a right guard and a punter.

Let me start off by saying I have severely limited my listening of Felger and Mazz over the last year or so. That said i was kind of amped after the Celtics win Monday and decided to get the local reaction yesterday. Felger made me laugh and he reiterated it a few times that the Celtics made made the Bucks stoop their level with the flopping. I know he is a Bucks fan and all but what the heck is he even talking about? Is he talking about the Celtics trying to take charges when Giannis comes barreling though the lane like a wrecking ball? Does he think that is flopping? Kind of ridiculous if so. Giannis is nearly impossible to defend and you need to take whatever you can. Secondly, taking a charge from him can’t feel all that great, which is sort of the opposite of a flop.

Anyways, that made me laugh along with his insistence that the Celtics can’t keep up the shooting from the 1st quarter game 2 and 4th quarter game 4 the rest of the series and expect to win like that. Yah, no shit, but why not talk about the other 3 quarters of each game, which brought them back down to earth. They couldn’t hit a shot to save their life the first 3 quarters of game 4. Is that sustainable?

At this point, it's pretty clear that this show's M.O. is to just spin everything positive into a negative, whenever possible, and to exaggerate just how bad already negative events are. The Sox could go 161-1 on the season, sweep the playoffs, and all they'd talk about all winter is the one loss and how it's indicative that the team is not built for future success, will probably lose 100 games next season, and on and on and on. The Patriots could drop 100 points in a game and they'd point out the few mistakes made and how they have to be much better about that if they want to win a title, but they won't because they're losers without Brady, etc.

They should really just rename the show "Yeah, But... with Felger and Minions."

I'm agreeing with you, but the show has been like this for 10 years or more. It's a constant gaslight of Boston sports fans. The year that the Pats were rolling and beat the Falcons, Massarotti said (in December, IIRC) that if the Pats won the Super Bowl it wouldn't be "a big deal" because there were no real good teams in the NFL that year, like the 85 Bears or the 90s Niners. If the Pats won it would be default, ie someone has to win the Super Bowl.

I wouldn't listen today, if you're looking to feel good about yesterday's game. "The game last night when the Celts beat the Bucks by almost 30? Yeah. It wasn't as good as you thought it was and here's why!"

It'll be more like. "Good job on beating the defending champs but if you think, for one second, that you'll be able to use that formula to beat Miami, you're sorely mistaken and here's 4 hours on why"

That's a good one.

I'm sure there will be "evidence" that the Milwaukee team wasn't as good as Miami because it was without Middleton and Giannis obviously was gassed in the final half of Game 7. And "MIAMI JUST WON'T BE LIKE THAT, BOSTON FANS! I HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU!"

Then Big Jim Murray will talk about how dumb Green Teamers are, how tough he is, all while simulatenously putting on a pair of shades because the studio is "too bright" and it "hurts his wittle eyes".

I'm going to listen to the open for Felger's mea culpa that he was wrong and or more likely his weak-ass back-hand comments that it took 7-games for the Celts to beat a crippled man-short Bucks. I want to hear the pain of little boy fanboy Felger deal with the loss of his home town Bucks.
Lets call it Schadenfelg

He may shit on the Bruins first to ease his pain.

I doubt he'll crap on the Bs losing the series. They fought back after getting it handed to them in the first two games, and in game 7 had a chance to tie with seconds left. Carolina is clearly a much better team so props to the Bs for the battle.

However for the Celtics he'll surely introduce any number of strawman arguments. "YOU ALL SAID!!!!"

Goes to show that as much as Felger whines about the Celtics fans complaining about the refs and how that's an inherent part of Celtics culture here, he does the exact same thing.

When I listened one caller managed to get through the screener and mention this on air, but they had their guards up pretty well as it didn't come up again.

To call it getting punked given the circumstances with people out is a little strong IMO. That and how happy he was just made me seek alternative listening. Don’t really feel like getting trolled today.
They built the lead in the 1st half with people out and then they completely collapsed in that 3rd quarter. Short roster or not, getting punked is an apt term for what happened. Miami turned up the pressure and intensity on the defensive end and the Celtics lost all composure and let the game get away from them. If you want to use a different term like they wilted under the pressure or something, fine. But let's call it for what it is. Doesn't mean they don't have a shot of winning the series or anything like that or that the team isn't mentally tough because they are. But in that 12 minute instance, Miami punked them.

Now, Felger's tone is another story. He's a butthurt Milwaukee fan.

Turned off the show within five seconds. Has to be a record for me. Felger giddy saying Tatum got punked and lunch money taken.

click
I would have stayed far, far, far away from the radio or CSN at 2:00 pm. There's nothing worse than listening to Felger strutting around. And like RedOctober said, you can't really fight back because they got crushed in that third quarter. I know that there were injures and stuff, but still ... that was an all time ass kicking. It's hard to argue otherwise.

In the span of roughly 10 minutes today:

Mazz - "Don't you want Trevor Story to fail? It gives Xander more leverage!"

Mazz - "I don't believe the Celtics have an elite shooter!"

/click. Turns off radio.

In fairness Felger basically called him an idiot on both counts.

Felger is going to rank the 32 Head Coach/QB combos today. Has BB/Mac at 13th. Murray was upset and thought it should be closer to 20th.
Seems like a fun topic the day after a Game 4 win by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. Maybe if Boston makes it to the NBA Finals, they can rank which team has the best kickers.

They opened the show discussing how the NBA playoffs are a terrible product with every game being a blowout. Cs/ Heat in particular being a borderline unwatchable product.
I haven't listened to a minute of it, but shouldn't this be the story? It's a borderline unwatchable product because one team shows up and the other doesn't. If it was just one team blowing them out, that's one thing, but I find it fascinating that it's so lopsided game to game and what is the reason behind it. Or we can just do BB THE GM IS KILLING BB THE COACH. MAC HAD A DAD BOD AND IS NOW TOO THIN! nonsense.

Game 3 was a blow out for three quarters until it wasn't. Same with Game One. (I know that you aren't making this argument, but they are and it's bullshit.)

I don't disagree.
Personally can only stand F&M in small doses now. Literally everything is a criticism. Mac Jones getting trim and losing the gut? "But how will it affect his ability to take a hit!!??! And will he have the same arm strength now??!?!?" But of course last year one of the knocks was that he didn't take care of his body properly for a professional athlete. Cs not making the finals will be a massive failure, even though they were like 10 games under .500 in January or whatever.

Turned on the show for the first couple minutes Felger (to his credit working on a holiday) "Was the win about the Celtics or more about Butler going for a 3 to win vs 2pts to tie the game?" and "Would this have been the greatest collapse in Celtics history if they lost?"

/turns off radio.

Yes it would have been an epic collapse if they lost. And if Malcolm Butler hadn’t made the most epic play in Super Bowl history the Pats would have lost three straight Super Bowls after winning three. That’s how sports work.

Why anyone listens to this guy is beyond me. I’m not a huge Cs fan but today should be a day to bask in the glow of last night’s win, not to shit on what might have happened if a missed shot was made.

I only listen if it is on 98.5 from my morning commute, but it is very simple. They (Felger in particular) has become what he hates. They preached their mantra that they will never criticize a team/player based on hypotheticals and "ifs". They promised to hold off on anything that hasn't happened. They are now literally inventing scenarios that have 0% of happening in order to criticize the teams/players.
