I’ve always wondered, what’s the purpose of taking second in a situation like this? It has no effect on the game and doesn’t even count for stats

Will Middlebrooks is a great media personality for someone who was such a bad player

Half a game behind the Jays and one back of Houston for the last WC spot (and 1.5 behind MFY)

Amazing how quickly a 5 game win streak starts reeling teams in. Same can be said too though in the opposite direction when you start losing a bunch.

Isn’t the chance of that mattering about the same as the chance of pulling a hamstring? Six run lead with two outs I don’t understand ever straying from the base
If you're pulling a hamstring trotting into second with defensive indifference, you probably shouldn't be running at all.

I was exaggerating, it just seems there’s no benefit at all so why do it. Like what if they cover and you get thrown out

Wiscansin, by way of Attleboro
He was a nice scrap heap pick up for this team, at least till Story is back
Big Iggy vibes from him. Can get to balls, accurate(ish) arm, makes contact. I get that even Iglesias' last run with the Sox he was diminished in the field, but he had pretty sure hands. Reyes has some range, and it feels like if he gets there, he'll make the right decision.

The infield defense needs to still be a priority. Reyes made multiple plays in the field. Keep going with this.

Story at second and keep Reyes at SS.
That's my idea, honestly. It's hard to judge Reyes on his defensive ability based on his ML time (171 games). Based on what metrics you look at, he's below average, at least on B-Ref for dWar.

But to the eye, I don't see Story getting to some of these batted balls, definitely sans shift. And there were concerns about Story's throwing arm into last year, to bring up the second shoe that drops on defense.

Reyes has a 670~ ops in the majors (and at age 29 too-- 770 ops in the minors is the only helium to modestly buoy the optimism blimp, but it's all levels of the minors). I feel like his impact has been pretty noticeable. The batted ball luck/ contact rate may (probably) will wane, but if his glove doesn't, he deserves to be getting time, especially if it means getting Kiké off of short.

Hernandez hasn't been the worst player in the league, but he's been a huge hindrance to this team. Not giving away outs is a huge plus. Maybe some of the pitching upturn has been the better defensive play on the infield (Casas has been pretty good in the last few games too).

I can only imagine how much it pains Cora to not play Kiké, but with Duran getting back on a heater, there's not a ton of opportunity for Hernandez, barring injury-- which will happen at some point. You have to balance getting guys reps and staying ready vs putting your team at a disadvantage.
