Yes. Toast.Anyone else lose Redzone on FIOS?
My issue was the latter, Landry was getting mugged throughout the route. I'm not sure I agree that it gets ignored "90% of the time in a late-game situation like that", or why that should matter.Ball was in the air when the big hit happened, so it’s either DPI or no call.
The other DB was riding the receiver past 5 yards, so they could’ve called illegal contact for that, but I’ll bet that gets ignored 90% of the time in a late-game situation like that.
But... If there had been no tackle he MAY have been able to come close enough to garner a PI call.Yeah that play looks bad, but three things:
-The contact occurred clearly after the ball was in the air, so PI only, no holding or illegal contact
-The ball was significantly overthrown, there was no chance the receiver would have been even close to the ball
-If the ball is uncatchable, there is no PI.
Maybe if Mayfield didn't overthrow his receiver by 20 yards something good would've happened.
I just rewound to be sure and the ball landed well out of bounds so there was no way it was catchable even if he wasn't tackled. The replay in Cle does suggest the ball was in air, so holding/illegal contact can't be made.
Still a horrible call, you can't call uncatchable when you prevent the receiver from getting anywhere near end of pattern, IMO...there's just no way to be sure.
Steratore is horrible as a "Rules analyst" all he seems to be doing is trying out for the gig of being the NFL's prime excuse-making "Supervisor of Referees"
I mean, Fox isn't the official yard markers, are they?No way McCaffrey got the first down. Fox even had the graphic saying 4th and 1. Panthers got a gift, and the Giants got screwed.
Wouldn't they have just kicked the FG from, like, the same exact spot?No way McCaffrey got the first down. Fox even had the graphic saying 4th and 1. Panthers got a gift, and the Giants got screwed.

bad snap I guess.OH MY GOD HUE WHY ARE YOU PRESRVING CLOCK
Yes, but what's hard on a replay like that is that the receiver has a catch radius of, what, 8 plus feet at the sideline? So it's really, really tough to assess whether contact was possible when you tackle the guy that far upfield. I don't think he could have gotten down there enough, but it's just not clear given the replays I saw....and as I understand the rule when that's the case you have to throw the flag, because the defense bears the risk that the throw can't be assessed.I just rewound to be sure and the ball landed well out of bounds so there was no way it was catchable even if he wasn't tackled.
I agree it's messed up but I think in that situation it's the right call per the way the rules are written.
So the Panthers has no way to stop the clock on 4th down to get the FG kicker on the field.
With the field goal team having to sprint on the field and get set really quickly to get the kick off, it would have been a lot tougher, especially since it was a 63-yarder, and everything had to go perfectly.Wouldn't they have just kicked the FG from, like, the same exact spot?
They weren't going to run out of time.
There was like 26 seconds left.So the Panthers has no way to stop the clock on 4th down to get the FG kicker on the field.
I was responding to “the Giants got screwed”, which is a lowest common denominator for me. Carolina won, right? So the Panthers has no way to stop the clock on 4th down to get the FG kicker on the field.
Obviously it's a judgement call, but I really don't think so. Closer to catchable, sure, but still overthrown by 15+ yards.But... If there had been no tackle he MAY have been able to come close enough to garner a PI call.
Lost both times to Carolina.Giants had their first 30 point game in 38 games and still lost
