Panthers going to lose because of this down-by-contact rule, giving the Giants a choke-hold FG

EDIT: nvm, down by 6

The Bengals are 4-1. I really don’t understand football.

You don't watch much college football? Sure, every team has one on their roster, but that's about all you can say about most of them. These guys that are shanking kicks at the NFL level were the good ones in college.
I do. I guess. But They last so long. College would need to produce like 1 or 2 elite kickers a season. Hard to believe that the sport doesn't do that.

That was totally bad ass by Barkley.
There has to be some amazing action shots from that for trading cards, 8 x 10’s, whatever...

Edit* guess it wasn’t totally bad ass, didn’t realize he was injured. Saw him on the ground but thought it was more the “can’t believe it. Thank God” variety. My RZ network sound hasn’t worked all day.

I always assume the unofficial rule in college is that you get the job if you can accurately kick 40 yard field goals...sometimes. These guys are largely terrible as you say.

Every top college program has one and kickers lwst like 14 years.
As an Alabama fan, I must disagree. Historically, yeah, that program has been great, if you look at guys like Van Tiffin, but a bunch of bad luck there of late, including letting a local kid (Daniel Carlson, yeah the Vikes guy) get to Auburn.

Browns were just held like crazy on that play.

And I’m not sure McCaffrey made it, Giants may have just been screwed.

Whoa. The Fox thing listed it as 4th and 1 when he spiked it.

I never saw anyone signal first on the Mcafferty run.

Regardless. Terrible play calling now tryig a huge FG

I just don't think it's possible to figure out how these guys will react to the pressure until you put them in the fire. IMO, being an NFL kicker has got be one of the most stressful jobs in all of sports. Literally, if you're off by a half inch on your step, your kick, follow through, your team loses games, and you have nothing to do all day but stand around and wait for your number to be called. These guys are probably drilling everything in practice, so the coaches have no choice but to give them a shot and see what happens. I always find it interesting that most of the longest tenured kickers came from tiny schools, because the ones that went to big schools mostly got exposed as not being able to handle it before ever getting to the NFL.

Crosby went to University of Colorado Boulder
Ghost went to Memphis
Tucker went to UTSA
Vinatieri went to South Dakota State

Interestingly enough, the only big school that seems to continually produce kickers is Florida State, Janikowski, Gano, Aguayo (who fell apart), etc.
