I think there are a few possibilities, some unsatisfying, some risky, but some that could produce an acceptable secondary. For instance:
1) McCourty back to CB: The PFW guys talked about this. I'm not really a fan, as I think it takes the one very good player in our secondary away from his best position, but it's a possibility. Still, I think Chung/Harmon/Wilson would be a more acceptable pairing at S than Butler/Ryan/Arrington/Dennard(?) would be at CB.
2) Unsexy veteran -- Mathis, Carlos Rogers, etc. I think these guys have value, especially in limited roles/specific schemes where they aren't asked to do too much. I'm thinking of someone like Otis Smith, who had a great '01 season as a 36-year-old with the Pats. There are also the notable flops -- Shawn Springs, etc.
3) Draftee (PJ Williams from FSU?). It's a weak class according to everyone, but there's a real chance someone will turn out to be good, right?
