Non-Marshawn Lynch Seahawks news: the team has released TE Zach Miller.
This from Rapaport would suggest that the Lynch deal isn't done yet.RedOctober3829 said:John Clayton says it's a 1-year deal for $11 million for Lynch.

Tough to get into Marshawn Lynch’s head. Deal has been there for him to sign. The hope & belief is he signs it after the talk. No one knows.

Texans take one of the top CBs off the market, reaching agreement with Kareem Jackson on 4-year deal, per source.

League source says with the #Jaguars likely to miss on targets Suh/Cobb/Murray, tight end Julius Thomas will become a major priority.

Hearing WASH, DAL & AZ among teams interested in FA DT Stephen Paea. #Bears are not in the mix. #NFL

No one will be surprised if it happens, but a source indicates the #Eagles are definitely out in front for CB Byron Maxwell.

Byron Maxwell and Devin McCourty looks like an either/or situation for #Eagles. I'm not sure they can make the best offer to both
If Jackson gets $20 million guaranteed as reported, Revis' market if he becomes a FA is becoming clearer. He will command at least $40 million guaranteed.dcmissle said:And here we go ...
And to clarify, Jackson is a re-sign by the Texans. So teams are not being THAT obvious about doing what they please this weekend.

We hear every offseason that they are in on many guys. We know they do a ton of due diligence even on players they don't bid on. How much of this is just that? He'd add a dimension to the offense that's for sure.Section30 said:Citing multiple sources Yahoo says Pats in on C.J. Spiller

Wasn't this always DEFINITELY the case? And isn't that just as definitely on the low end of the guarantees for Revis?RedOctober3829 said:If Jackson gets $20 million guaranteed as reported, Revis' market if he becomes a FA is becoming clearer. He will command at least $40 million guaranteed.
That's my take too. Some sort of hybrid back but hopefully for less than 3m a year.E5 Yaz said:
Whether it's Spiller or Bush or someone lesser, you get the sense they're moving on from Vereen
It's not the low end for Revis, but now that some actual numbers get on paper for lesser players the price tag will go up and up for the top of the market. $20 million guaranteed and $8.5 million base salary for Kareem Jackson is high. I think any chance the Pats had of getting Revis to sign for something like $14 million per year and under $40 million guaranteed is over. If that somehow happened, I'd be totally shocked whereas before the bottom of the market was set I thought it could happen.Mugsy's Walk-Off Bunt said:Wasn't this always DEFINITELY the case? The #Chargers are making a hard push to keep CB Brandon Flowers, and indications are they’ll be able to. Deal isn’t done yet, though
Agree. Players who were underutilized in bad organizations is Moneyball.dcmissle said:Keep eye on Helu. Pass pro challenged, but he tries.

I'd be real interested to see the numbers on this contract as well. This keeps another CB option out of Indy.
The four-year, $34 million deal includes $20 million guaranteed, a source familiar with the deal told ESPN.com.
If the deal's 4 / $16 MM, wouldn't you assume they'd structure it so the hit was less up front rather than more?Ed Hillel said:Yeah, seems like a crazy deal, given their cap issues. No details, but gotta assume 4+ million cap hit this season.
How could they structure it and get him to sign? Heavy guaranteed salary later on? Any bonus 8 or more should put them around 3-4 million this year.Super Nomario said:If the deal's 4 / $16 MM, wouldn't you assume they'd structure it so the hit was less up front rather than more?
We'll have to see when the details come out, but I don't assume there's a ton of guaranteed money here. As a point of reference, Ingram came in the same time as Ridley but has fewer yards, touchdowns, and worse YPC (though pretty close). And even if half the contract is guaranteed, I'd think the first year salary is pretty close to the minimum to keep his initial cap hit low.Ed Hillel said:How could they structure it and get him to sign? I guess I just didn't think that would ever happen, and I still don't, 'though I'd be thrilled if it did. It's his last contract, he remains one of the league's top players at a crucial position, and has always been a shrewd and confident businessman. I assume Revis will get, bottom end, closer to $50 mill guaranteed and is likely looking at an AAV of 16+ mill. $14/year was a pipe dream, IMO.RedOctober3829 said:It's not the low end for Revis, but now that some actual numbers get on paper for lesser players the price tag will go up and up for the top of the market. $20 million guaranteed and $8.5 million base salary for Kareem Jackson is high. PedroKsBambino said:At end of day, how can a serious football player turn down that from GB to get a few million more from the horrendous and unsettled Oakland franchise, really?
The champs, perhaps not coincidentally, end up with Denver at the top of the free-agency charts. Replacing Talib with Revis worked to perfection, as Bill Belichick naturally managed to get the most out of the most talented cornerback he’s ever coached. Browner provided a physical presence across from Revis and allowed the Patriots to play the most aggressive man coverage they’ve used since the glory days of Ty Law, while Chung was a surprisingly important part as a run-stifling safety. And while most of the additions were improvements for the defense, it’s worth remembering that nobody in the league was willing to give Edelman even $1 million in free agency two years ago; he signed a four-year, $17 million deal last offseason, and the league’s best secondary couldn’t find a way to stop Edelman in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl.
He's still young enough that his next contract can be of the chasing money variety. Have to wonder if he gave James Jones a call to get his opinion on leaving GB.nattysez said:
These guys are risking permanent, life-altering injury on every play. If I were a pro football player, I would take the maximum guaranteed money just about every time. The only caveats would be: (1) if I thought a team was so bad that I would actually be at more risk on the team offering more money (bad o-line if a QB, for example); and (2) if the team offering me less played in a location where I could make enough in endorsements to make up for the shortfall in game checks.
That said, I think a lot of these guys are so indoctrinated in the rah-rah, winning-above-all mentality that they ignore logic when making the decision about where to play.

It's a fascinating list that ends up with the Patriots at the top with only one of two "A" grade (Denver being the other):
Others in the AFCE:
I know this -- BB is absolutely superb in leveraging out the hidden value each F.A. period. Even if Revis & McC both leave, I've got a lot of trust in him & Caserio figuring out how to put that money to good use.
- Jets: D
- Phins: C-plus
- Bills: B
In other words, once again, in BB we trust.
j44thor said:While I'm not going to disagree that BB is well above average when it comes to FA signings I do hesitate to assume he will be able to replace McC and Revis without missing a beat. The last impact DB I can think of them bringing in prior to last off-season was Rodney, perhaps I'm missing one or two but for the most part their DB FA's have been very unremarkable prior to last year, Deltha O'Neal anyone?

The #Eagles are currently willing to pay CB Byron Maxwell north of $10M per year, per a source. Top of the market.
