You joke but Smith is the best WR in the league at drawing PI. Their offense could take a huge step back next year if Forsett leaves.
His brother died. He deserves PI calls.

It could easily be effectively a one year contract with a cap hit around $5M and very little dead money if they cut him in 2016.  I wouldn't particularly like that deal for Gore but for a team with $50M in cap space in 2015, its hardly insane.

Without the details, its almost always impossible to know whether any NFL contract is truly awful (Suh contract seems like an exception).
I should always avoid hyperbole.  Gore at those numbers would be okay IF he's able to replicate those numbers.  The problem is you're committing a lot of dollars, a roster spot and expecting that player to produce.  If Gore hits the wall - and it's a much more feasible proposition than it would be for, say, a 27 year old back with 7000 or so yards - then Philly is potentially screwed with a crippled running game all season.  BSF's post highlights the risks of RB's at this age - it's not a great bet.

$9M for a center is a lot, even for a top 5 center from a division rival like Hudson. Hudson is going to be making almost exactly what Pouncey makes for the Steelers, which is the top center contract in the league. It is 500K more than what Alex Mack got last year in a transition tag deal.

Of course it is not that crazy in the context of a mid level RG like Franklin getting $7.25 per from San Diego.  The market is nuts this year, I wonder how the across the board price shift is going to affect the NFLPA leadership voting.

Certainly not part time pass rushers. McPhee joins a long and happy list of Baltimore defenders paid handsomely elsewhere.

@Rand_Getlin: Source: The NFL sent a letter to all 32 teams stating their displeasure w/ the release of contract terms prior to the start of free agency.

@Rand_Getlin: That same source says the letter indicates the league will conduct an investigation. Will examine if teams did in fact agree to terms early.

Well.  Certainly worth exploring if they don't have to trade any assets to get him.  Revis is still the #1 priority by a country mile, but still….I'd kick the tires on Johnson for sure.  Maybe he'd be willing to take a little less to come play with the champs and catch passes from Tom Brady.

This is the same League that pissed all over its annual extravaganza over a couple of psi. It's a joke.

The journos, of course, don't care because the Patriots were not among the alleged violators. Nobody is getting upset over Miami's rather clear violation of the rules and disregard of the memorandum sent to the teams about the weekend just passed.

I'm sorry. But how the hell can the NFL act all upset when their own network and Twitter account are reporting on all the "unapproved news"?

Would be hilarious if they took away draft picks from half the teams in the league after they tacitly allowed the "tampering" to occur.

Seriously, in so many ways the NFL is an incredible organization.

And in so many other ways it's a terrible, godawful joke.

Chiefs' deal with Jeremy Maclin will be worth $11 million per season, per source.

I really like Maclin, but this is stupid. Nearly 25% of his targets this past year were 20+ yards. He has decent YAC, but a lot of that comes after he breaks free for a TD (the dude had 6 receptions of 50+ yards this year). They already neutered Dwayne Bowe, and while Maclin is a better receiver, their strengths are similar.

Why have they not learned their lesson?

Don't worry, Andy Reid is going to solve all Colin Kaepernick's problems when he trades for him and displaces Alex Smith, thus creating the funniest NFL moment for me since the butt fumble until the Jets trade for Cutler.

Chiefs did not score a single TD from their wideouts last year. They are overly compensating for that odd stat -- and hard

These free agency prices are nuts. Makes me nervous thinking about what Revis is asking for now.

But I noticed upthread Corsi noted that the Pats are involved in LB Jabaal Sheard. If the price is right, I'd be happy to bring him in. He only had 2 sacks this year, but had 6 last year and 7 the year before. He's only 26 and he's got the size BB typically likes (6'3", 260) and is strong against the run, according to PFF (I know, I know). If they're looking to move on from Mayo to save cap space, Sheard would be a nice way to add back some solid depth.

Sheard was talked up as a possible NE draftee before the Browns got him in 2nd round. I think he's more of a Ayers replacement than Mayo, but would love to see what he can do under BB's guidance.

The hammer has to come down, doesn't it?  I mean, a memo was ignored, and if history is any indication, the NFL does not stand for that!
