That's going to hurt when that bill comes due. Jerry Jones: the gift that keeps on giving.

It is, but as I mentioned upthread, this is the time to "cash in" if you're going to do it. Given what they're spending now, I think their best strategy is probably to go all out and make a run at Peterson. This is a team that was close last season, a top 3 team in the NFC. I don't agree with the strategy, but the timing is good.

Romo's cap hits the next 4 seasons are now 21, 25, 25, and 24 million, and he's basically uncuttable until 2018. If he's healthy, it's probably reasonable value, but that's a big if, and he's not getting any younger. That's the reality of what you have to pay for consistently strong QB play in the league, however. Romo's just a bigger risk than others.

The restructure is just so they have room to pay in-season incentives to Hardy. So, Jerry had no choice if he wanted to stay under the cap. Not Peterson-related. They're so fucked down the road

OK, I'm no Miguel so I have to ask - what kind of in season incentives are we talking about?

I (most likely misguidedly) was under the impression that incentives are labeled as LTBE and NLTBE. The former you had to make room for when you sign him and the latter get applied to the following year.

Just when it seemed like smarter cap management was showing up, Jerry decides to go after a new shiney

Hey if he's cheap it's hard to argue with Peterson as a player. I just don't know how happy I'd be cheering my team's major acquisitions as Hardy and Peterson. But hey I guess it's consistent.

It's arguable from the Cowboys's standpoint that signing Peterson actually makes things easier on the team as a whole. They will be taking a "I can't believe you signed that scumbag!" hit for Hardy, no matter what, it doesn't change the calculus much to add another high-profile example to that mix, and potentially makes things EASIER on Hardy - AND on Peterson - since each iffy character will have some of whatever "heat" they receive diffused by the presence of the other.

Only 3.2 million or so of Hardy's contract counts against the cap this season via Over the Cap. The rest is deferred to next season. Even after the McClain signing, they should have been around 3 million under the cap, making the Romo move unnecessary. I would guess they have something else in mind, probably Peterson.

They're in full-blown GFIN mode. As Ed mentioned earlier, there's really no better time to strike. That window is closing fast and they can't afford to putz around. Will they have to pay the piper eventually? Sure. But if they're able to add Lombardi to the trophy case, I don't think you'll find a single Cowboys fan complaining.

Can't disagree with that BoSoxen. Romo is the window. We saw what happens when he's hurt or can't play. That window can shut on any given hit. I can't blame GFIN.
I assume Dez's deal will not be friendly down the road either? I haven't heard much.

Jerry is getting up there, and Romo is not getting any younger and has the back. Hardy confirmed GFIN.

With Mort's report that the Browns are about 90% done with Manziel, Jerry just needs to thank the Lord for the wisdom to allow Stephen to snatch the draft card away.

It was a Tweet. There's an article on dallascowboys.com talking about Peterson, so I'm guessing this Tweet was sent out to drive traffic to that article.

Also, this:

First things first, the Cowboys’ website is the official website of the Dallas Cowboys. It should be noted, however, that they are not considered affiliated with the team in the kind of way that could indict the Cowboys for tampering.

Rob Phillips, the writer of that article, is a journalist, not a team official. He does not officially represent the Cowboys.

I did some work for that website a few years ago, and I never in my wildest dreams considered myself a part of the organization. Methinks this is much ado about nothing. If that much talked about phone call between Jerry and AP last offseason didn't bring tampering charges, I really doubt this will.

Looks like the posters in the Jets thread aren't the only forum members confused about what tampering is - I appear to qualify as well.

...so, um, thanks.

Watching the Country Music Awards (don't ask), fucking Tony Romo and that smug bastard Blake Shelton just made a Ballghazi joke, implying that they had "real balls".

Yes, I am almost completely humoreless about this at this point.  Fuck them all.

Too bad there was no one there presenting that was a Pats fans to throw it back in Romo's face that he has won only 2 playoff games in his career.

Perhaps Romo was referring to his links game (he's actually a top notch golfer).

Week six bye.  Road trips to Green Bay and Buffalo (and maybe Washington) in December is rough.

Disappointing Thanksgiving Day matchup? Or, maybe you want a lower stress game on the country's best holiday.

I wouldn't have minded seeing the Pats there but I don't mind having an easier one (on paper) from time to time as well given how short a week it is.

Not what I was hoping for from a Cowboys fan perspective but I can't argue against so I'm not even going to try.

The appeal on this one is going to be interesting. Even if it's reduced, he should miss the Pats game. All part of the NFL's pro-Pats conspiracy.

He should just take the suspension and go away.  What good can come from dragging this thing out any more?

Well, he's thinking that he can offer Goodell a lot of money to not show up at the appeal ...

Misses both Eagles games too. So good. F that guy. He is not someone I will have much difficulty booing. Probably if he was an Eagle to be honest. 3 documented cases, who knows how many total. F that guy.
At least Vick went to prison.

Which I guess serves as  a reminder to treat dogs better than vulnerable people.

Eyeball test on that Dallas schedule - 10-6, one playoff win.

I'm trying to guess which six games you have as losses. My guess at their losses:

NE
Sea
GB
Buf
Philly

I agree there's probably another one in there, but I'm having trouble deciding which one. Maybe a split with NY?

Of course, you know they're going to wind up beating two of those non-Philly teams and losing to TB and the Jets. Wouldn't that be a very Cowboys thing to do.

They'll need a lot of health luck to repeat that 12-4 record. I just don't think you can bank on that.

That's some analytical shit right there.

Very informative. Thank you.

Edit: Who will they beat in the playoffs?

And Romo has stated the Cowboys are winning the Superbowl. The clown show has begun, I really hope they sign Peterson. That team has all the makings of being extremely entertaining on and off the field.

They're not going to bring anybody else in...they've got McFadden, Dunbar, Randle, and Williams.  They think somebody or somebodies will emerge from that group and do well enough behind the line.

Yeah Greg, I don't get it. The OL is good enough that I could probably run for 1000 yards behind it. Wasting money or picks on the marginal upgrade over what they have makes Jerry sense.

You might be able to run for 1000 yards behind that OL ... but Darren McFadden might not.

David Wilson --- that's not going to help especially since he retired last summer due to his neck injury.
