Delayed another hour.

Not really a big deal given the format of the tournament. Assuming no further delays, they should get back on schedule sometime tomorrow. Although they seem to be unclear on how snow works. It's as if they just expect it to melt right away even though it is supposedly 30 degrees at the course.

I know I heard them say it was 34 somewhere around 9 am ES, but is supposed to get up to around 55 today, and the ground isn't frozen, so it will melt relatively quickly.  The probably use the normal brooms they use on greens to push some of the snow off, so they might be ok more quickly.  Can;t really do that with the whole course.

I could see them playing at some point where the vast majority of the snow is gone, but still there could be some holes, that have a wayward area where the player end up in the snow.   I think they should play it as it lies if that happens, but I assume it would be a drop

It's 2:00 eastern start. The course is in MST, not PST.

11 matches haven't started yet. They players can turn around pretty quick after matches end, but I don't see them getting too deep into the second round today.

I'm curious what goes through the mind of someone like Thongchai Jaidee in this situation.  Play was called yesterday with his opponent, Sergio Garcia, looking at a birdie putt that would end their match.  Does he go through all his warm-up routines and prepare for a full round just to ride out to hole 16 and watch Sergio sink the putt?  That's got to suck mentally.  I don't know if I wouldn't have conceded the putt to Sergio when play was suspended for the day and hopped a plane back home.  I guess anything can happen today, but it's very likely he is sticking around for an extra day without actually being able to attempt another shot in the tournament.

Man, there's a lot of money on the line and especially for a guy like Jaidee who isn't a PGA member and doesn't make a ton of money on the Euro tour. His biggest win netted him 372K euro and he's only won 5 times on the Euro tour since 2004. I would never give up in a situation like that with that kind of money/world ranking points on the line. Nevermind the chance at getting exempt to some majors.

Sergio's had a chance to stew over that putt for a long time, if he misses it it's an instant momentum swing in the match. While it sucks to sit around all night waiting to get put to bed, there's no way Jaidee should have conceded.

Another delay.  Now a 1PM MST/3PM EST start.  Apparently the problem is hole 15, which is at the highest point and in the most sun protected part of the course, so the snow isn't melting as fast there as it is on other holes.

Regarding Jaidee, I understand there's more to it for him than just this tournament and I'm in no way suggesting he should quit.  Just saying if I were in his position, it would at least cross my mind.

And there you go, all that talk about Jaidee quitting or not is for naught, as Sergio blows by the cup on the 12-foot birdie putt then misses the par putt too to lose the hole.  All along, Jaidee was sat on the 17th tee going from wondering if he was going to hit at all to hitting first with only a one hole deficit with two to play.

Jaidee wins hole 18 and pushes Sergio into a playoff.  I guess I picked the wrong guy to use as an example.  Johnson or Senden would have been a better one.

I think it would be worse to be Zach Johnson.  He's 6 down with 8 to play.  He can't forfeit the match, has has to do a full warm-up because he's going to hit some shots, but there is no way in hell that he's going to win.  That has to be a long 24 hours.

Sigh.

Fraser KO's Keegan Bradley.

The 1's are in some trouble. Oosty and McIlroy are AS, and both Donald and Tiger are down a hole.

Rory's getting blitzed by Lowry. Back-to-back chip in birdies to take a 1up lead, and now has a tap in eagle on 13.

Tough miss for par on 12 for Kooch.

Mahan just swung form a green-side trap like he was slashing undergrowth in the Amazon rain forest, and he winds up about 30 feet past the hole. Bad, bad shot.

The last few holes have been pretty horrible golf until Mahan threw that dagger of a chip right there. That could be the end of it if Poulter can't make this putt.

Holy crap, what a shot by Mahan on 12. Poulter's birdie attempt is wayyyy short, so Hunter's now 3-up.

They really have.

Smart play by Kuchar out of the trap. He's about to go 3-up as well.

Hunter stepping on the throat with that second shot on 13. And Poulter's in the trap. He's screwed.

This is the problem with this tournament.  Only two matches and they both are noncompetitive.

Its an interesting format.  The PGA Championship used to be match play.  I actually wish they would go back to that, and take 128 golfers.  The problem, of course, is the weather.  If there are weather delays it really fucks with the format.

It's a fun format.  The early rounds are great because there is so much action and there will always be good matches.  The problem is that once you get to the final rounds, there isn't a whole lot of action--you really get a good sense of how much time there is between shots--and there is a chance there won't be anything particularly competitive.

I don't. 2 golfers on the last day? Yawn. That would be a horrendous idea. You're usually a pretty good idea man but this suggestion is pretty lousy.

You could do 36 the last day, semis and finals.  Yeah its only 4 golfers.

Its probably not made for TV, but Match Play has been in golf for a long time and I'd like to see it in more than one tournament and ryder cups.
