Mickelson with maybe the putt of the year.  From green, through 12 feet of rough, back on to the green, snakes into the hole.

That was insane. Snedeker is making this a fun watch though, he refuses to go away.

They are having a blast with the caddy races on 16 today. Seeing 2 all out sprints ending with breathless headfirst dives into the green was pretty funny.

It'd be lame and tired if it happened a lot, but once a year on one hole makes it really cool and refreshing to see all of the golfers, caddies, workers, and fans having fun with the game.

I missed Paddy Harrington trying to kick a FG on 16 until this morning.   That was odd.

Question for anyone who might know or have an opinion.  Why is it that Pebble Beach is blown off by so many guys.   Beautiful course.  Big TV event.  Big Sponsor.  I would think the pro am element would be reasonably attractive.

Is it the pro am element that keeps people away?  I guess I could see where some players would be frustrated as it is so not the way they normally play.

Is it the weather?   I guess it is basically chilly and often wet up there at this time of year and maybe most of our southern golfers don't like that

Local hedge fund star/fellow Willowbend Country Club member Matthew Sidman is paired with John Merrick and is 6 shots back in the pro-am competition.

It looks like Sneds may run away with this one. He has opened up a 3-shot lead.

Edit: Also, I call BS on a lot of the amateur's handicap's. No way some of these guys are single digits.

No, but Belichick is playing with Ricky Barnes.

Faldo was saying Brady was nearly a scratch golfer. I did not know that.

Faldo (or Nantz) said Tony Romo was a scratch golfer. Maybe Tony should concentrate on golf more.

IIRC, Romo has tried to qualify for the US Open a few times.  I don't think he's scratch, but more like a 1-2 handicap (nothing to sneeze at).  Of course, the difference between a 1-2 handicap player and a tour pro is still enormous.

As Romo proved when he tried. He was lost out there when he had to play from the tips and deal with tremendously difficult pin placements and fast greens. Romo is still an awesome golfer but the pros. . . .those guys are good.

The 10th hole at Riviera is a great hole to watch. 280 yard par 4 and it's playing over par for the day. So many different ways to try and play it.

Haas with two consecutive bogeys, and we've got ourselves a tournament.  This is going to be a great finish.

Haas definitely feeling the heat.  That bogey at 8 was ugly from the start

Would like to see a tournament in the summer (U.S. Open) when the grass is not dormant and they grow the rough out.

The players are getting a huge break on their drives.  As long as they don'y get unlucky and hit it behind a tree, very little penalty for wayward tee shots. Course is playing a good 10 shots easier over the course of 4 days than it could.

Very tough angle for Merrick for his approach.  Unforced error leaving his lay up that far to the right.

Although Beljian might not be any better off

Jason Day is 4up on Zach Johnson Through 6. Only real surprise so far. Tim Clark 2 up on Adam Scott through 3 as well.

Rory playing against his good friend should be fun.

The weather looks absolutely brutal though.

For such a signature event, you'd think they would play it somewhere else where the weather isn't such a factor.  This is the fifth year they've been at this course, and at least the second time they've had such cold blustery conditions.  The final two years ago was played in snow and sleet, and apparently, there's some of that threatening to roll into the area this afternoon.

I guess you can say that weather is unpredictable, look at what happened at Kapalua or Torrey Pines, etc.  But this is a mountain desert course in February, the odds of getting five days of perfect sunny warm weather can't be all that great.
