"Finances and taxes are a personal matter, and I should not have made my opinions on them public," Mickelson said in a statement released late Monday night. "I apologize to those I have upset or insulted, and assure you I intend to not let it happen again."
No shit Sherlock.

Safe to say I'm not drafting Dustin Johnson if he's deciding to not attend tournaments where he could win money so he can continue to bang some strange in Hawaii. Not that it's a bad choice by him, but I don't think it bodes well for his season.

Saying all the right things for now.  Very apologetic.

Said it was insensitive to complain about it when people don't have jobs.

Two straight days of media training will do wonders for your ability to present the correct message.

Does anyone think that Phil even knows that the SS tax increase will mean he pays about 2200 dollars more a year? It's not like that jump to 6.2 means an additional 2-3 million in taxes (saw someone on the golf channel suggest his income is in the 40-60 million range).

It's actually about $5k for Phil (earnings cap increased by about 3.5k, and he pays 12.4% as self-employed), but the point is obviously still valid.

On the course, he's tied with Charles Howell III for the lead at Torrey Pines at -8.

Edit: Looks like he might run away with this. -6 though 11, and he has a 3 shot lead.

Thursday's round and taking the lead with two days of the South course ahead of him looks pretty strong.  You've got to do your damage on the North course, which he did.

In his interview he indicated he hasn't had to hit as many balls this offseason and has spent more time on this short game.  So if his new swing is at the level where he trusts it and the short game is Tiger of old, he's looking at a good year.

Worst day in history for the San Diego Chamber of Commerce. 5 hours or so of delay due to fog at Torrey Pines. Tiger must be pulling his hair out too. Momentum may be lost!  :smith:

Beautiful day up here in NorCal. Should have played at Pebble or Spyglass this weekend.

On the plus side for Tiger they probably cut it to a 3 round tourney, so all he needs is one good day to pick up the win

Tiger knocks a wedge to about 6 inches on #2 for the easy tap-in birdie. That was one of the better wedge shots I've seen Tiger hit in a while.

He may end up running away with this one.

Edit: Well, maybe he'll crawl away with it at this pace. They've been standing on the 3rd tee box for about 15 minutes now.

Does anyone know if CBS coverage is taped? ESPN shows tigers tee time at 6:10 pm while CBS had him still on the course in the 3rd rd.

No it's live, the thing is messed up because they are also doing the 4th round now.

I think they are going right back out after they are done. CBS' coverage is live, I believe.

It's live.

It's a bit of a clusterfuck because they're not re-pairing, and they're using split tee's.

Tiger's spraying tee shots everywhere. He still has a 3 shot lead over Sneds, but Tiger has not driven the ball well today at all.

You're joking, right? He drove the ball beautifully in 3rd round.

I guess I'm wrong. I haven't been watching the whole time, but I thought he missed several fairways during his back 9 in round 3. Maybe the poor drives on 18 and then 1 and 2 of round 4 are sticking out to me.

He hit 9 of 14 fairways, with 2 others just rolling into the first cut. Fairways are not easy to hit on the south course, and the field is at about 45% for the tournament. The fact that there was no repairing after round 3 makes things look a little screwy, but he's -1 after 3 holes in the 4th round. Counting each of their first 57 holes, Tiger still is up 7 strokes on Snedeker.

Behind a tree in 1. He birdies the hole. Unbelievable. Two amazing shots in a row. Not good shots, amazing shots.

I don't know what this week means in the grand scheme of things, but if Tiger is back and Rory continues to be dominant, it is going to be an awesome year for golf.
