Wow, what a fall. He's not even 28 years old. I have to imagine he gets some kind of Masterson-like pillow contract next year.

No real decline in peripherals or velocity. Bad luck and an abnormally low LOB% (62.6%) seem to be the culprit.

Maybe they can take inspiration from the 83-win 2006 Cardinals and do to the NL what was done to them back then... (But seriously, unless they can get their starters into the 8th, it's unlikely on the evidence of the last few weeks.)jon abbey said:
My take on the story is that they won one of the few weakest divisions of all time and two superior teams have to play a single game elimination just to get to the NLDS.

I wouldn't dismiss the current Mets team as an artifact of the NL East - the division title is definitely in part due to beating up on the Braves/Phillies (and the Nationals completely falling apart), and the only reason they were competitive early on was great pitching and good luck, but they've had one of the best offenses in the second half (#1 by WAR & #3 by wRC++) and certainly have the starting pitching to dominate a playoff series. Anything can happen, but I like their chances against LA.
