To the clubhouse staff in the Ranger's locker room....slow it down with the plastic wrap and the champagne corks.

Stunning failure.  Baseball is such a crazy fucking game.  You can never "see it all".

Astros clinch a tie with a win tonight. If they lose, they are tied heading into game 162

Meanwhile if Houston wins tonight and keeps the pressure on Texas, Texas' bullpen is incredibly burnt already, multiple guys have gone five straight games (!!!).

Houston would host the tiebreaker (with Angels) by virtue of 10-9 series win.

Houston has to win today and Sunday even to force a tie for the division.

Needless to say a huge loss for the Rangers.  If Houston wins tonight, then the Rangers must burn Hamels in Game 162 and he would not be available for their first playoff game.

True but rangers never make it easy on themselves in last few games of the year. "Rangers-town!" I guess

The real winners here are the Jays, Royals and Yankees. They're going to feast on whichever two teams come out of this mess with burned out pitching staffs.

Would that mean the Yankees will be the WC1 because the loser of the potential AL West tiebreaker game is 87-76 while the Yankees cannot finish worse than 87-75?

espn: The last time a team came back by 4 runs down in the 9th inning on the road was June 25, 2012 when the Cardinals beat the Marlins. Since that day, teams had lost 1,761 consecutive games when trailing by 4 runs in the 9th inning on the road.

If Rangers and Astros tie, and Yankees also finish with same record:Houston at Texas, Monday. Winner to ALDS; loser to AL wild-card game.
In the event that these three teams all finish with 87 wins, Texas would host Houston in a tiebreaker to determine the AL West champion. The loser of that game would play the Yankees in the wild-card game with the location of that matchup determined by regular-season head-to-head record:
• If Texas wins AL West tiebreaker: Rangers advance to ALDS. Astros host Yankees in wild-card game because of 5-2 head-to-head record against New York this season.
• If Houston wins AL West tiebreaker: Astros advance to ALDS. Rangers host Yankees in wild-card game because of 4-3 head-to-head record against New York this season.

No surprise here: Cole will pitch the wild card game against Chicago and Arietta

Miami LF, Yelich, is 8-8 in the doubleheader today, so far.  5/5 in the first game, and 3/3 so far in the 2nd.  What's the MLB record?

That's pretty creepy that they have an underwater camera in the outfield pool in Arizona.  Sure, it's cool a few times a season when you see a home run ball land in it, but what is the rest of that camera footage being used for?

Yankees 87-74

Rangers 87-74

Astros 86-75

Angels 85-76

Yankees win ... they host Wild Card game, regardless
Rangers win ... they win AL West, regardless
Astros win ... they earn wild card spot, regardless

If Astros and Angels tie: Los Angeles at Houston, Monday.

Houston would host the tiebreaker by virtue of 10-9 series win.
If Yankees and Astros tie: New York at Houston (in AL wild-card game), Tuesday.

This scenario comes into play if the Yankees and Astros finish with 87 wins AND the Rangers win at least once more to claim the AL West title.
In this case, Houston would host New York in the wild-card game because of the Astros' 4-3 head-to-head matchup advantage over the Yankees.

So basically if we want something fun to happen, we need an Angels' win.

Well, yes. Unless you're rooting for the Astros, in which case an Angels loss eliminates the drama

Whoever is most likely to beat the MFY is who I want as the other wild card. Yankee Elimination Day needs to happen ASAP.

Buehrle is having real trouble in his last appearance. Just gave up a grand slam to Joey Butler to make it 6-0 Rays in the 1st.

And after a double-RBI single, he's done. Finishes the year with 198.2 IP.

Just a head scratching decision to start Buehrle today after he threw 100+ pitches on Friday when home field advantage is still in play.

He really wanted 200IP to make it 15 straight seasons (and every season in his career).
