How the hell did Matt Williams go from a MOY winner, to a manager who should be fired like yesterday?

It's not a particularly good year for managers in that area. The collapse of the Orioles in the second half has been underplayed

Whenever a team with as much talent as the Orioles suddenly falls apart in spectacular fashion, you wonder if there's something going on behind the scenes. Maybe a crab legs and beer situation, or everyone hates Buck.

The atmosphere at the ballpark was absolutely electric tonight. The place nearly blew out of the hillside after Peraza made that backhanded glove flip to Rollins to start the potentially game saving 4-6-3 DP in the 8th. It was also a blast seeing Greinke and Bumgarner take hacks off each other.

Dodgers go for the sweep tomorrow night with Kershaw on the mound.

No doubt. Easy for me to watch in Hawaii, 3 hours behind West Coast. Wife's favorite team is the Giants. Been a couple tough nights for her. Incredible games some. You can feel the intensity. De Aza made his debut to no big deal. Great pitching.

Because the Manager of the Year award is typically an award for the manager of the team that exceeded preseason or early season expectations.  It has almost nothing to do with actual managerial competence.  Williams was pulling the same stupid shit last year too, but he had more healthy bats and a deeper bullpen, so he got away with it more often.

Unless I'm reading the box score wrong, Greinke and Bumgarner each batted 8th last night against each other.  That's kind of cool.

Hector Olivera just got his 1st MLB hit. Seeing eye single, literally could not have placed it better.

Still don't get that trade for the Braves.

Brown just Jeter'd over the railing and gave up an inside the park HR to the Mets.

Did Matt Williams seriously just bench Harper for not running out a pop up?

Kershaw up to 127 pitches now trying to close this out, one out away.

Edit: Heh, great minds.

Ties both his alltime highs with pitches and Ks with 132 and 15, wow.

Not really, I already posted about this game in the August thread.
OK, didn't see that, just watching the MLBN cut-in.

He and Greinke are putting together as good a season for teammate SPs as we've ever seen.

Johnson/Schilling in 2001 I think are the pair to beat in the division era, especially if you count the postseason (a combined 9-1 and 1.30 ERA in 11 starts plus Johnson's game 7 relief stint), but the numbers these two are putting up are just insane.

Kimbrel loads the bases against TEX, top 9, 3-3, but gets out of it by K-ing Napoli and Beltre, 37 pitch inning.

When the Rockies finish off their win tonight (up 11-3 now), the NL East will have the worst three records in MLB. I have to think that's the first time that's ever happened in the six division era, even for a day.

And actually that is the first 0 4 0 1 line ever, there were three previous 0 4 0 0 lines, but none of them had an RBI in addition.

Rizzo's got a nice swing. Grand slam and a 12 - 2 lead for Jon Lester.
I caught a few minutes of that game. At least while I was watching the D'backs on first didn't run on Lester. Why on earth not? (Perhaps all their get-up-and-go has got-up-and-gone.)

Cubs announcer (I think it was) said something like everybody knows Lester has the phobia about throwing to bases, but nobody wants to be the one guy to get caught. One D-Back, Inciarte, did steal second, then third though. Weird thing about that game was that the wind was blowing in and there were 5 HRs in the game, 2 by Addison Russell.

Billy Beane should be mocked every single day for giving away Donaldson and Russell, I wonder if that is a better left side of the infield going forward than Lawrie and Semien.

(And yes, I thought both those deals were crazy from day 1, it's not second-guessing.)

I'm still waiting for the media to kill him for those moves but I haven't seen anything so far. Perhaps after Donaldson is awarded the MVP and WS MVP.

Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop for Clevenger and Feldman may be one of the more lopsided trades in the last decade. Arrieta has turned himself into a hell of a pitcher.

The Braves 50th year in Atlanta: 1-19 since August 17th.  Swept by the Nats over the weekend.  On Father's Day they were a .500 team.  Since then, 19-48!

After roaring out to an early lead, the Nats are melting down against the Mets.

It's something of a literal observation, as Drew Storen looks like he's coming emotionally unglued out there. And yet Williams does nothing as the Nat's season slips away.
