Not here
Every JDM rumor to the Mets I have seen has been involving Dominic Smith. Can someone explain why the hell we would want him? He’s not good.
Not directly answering the questions, but rumors can come from the Mets.

You say that like that's the downside of a mega (16 year?) extension. Soto still being a league average hitter in 2038 would be an extremely rosy outcome. The concern would be this happening in 2028, when they are still on the hook for $300 million. This doesn't mean I want nothing to do with the Juan Soto sweepstakes, but these forever contacts, some team is going to get bitten in the ass for a long time, probably more than just one. Mike Trout played 39 games last year is visiting a spinal surgeon this week...
How hard would that bite in the ass sting, though? The CBT was $210 million in 2021; it's $244 million in 2026. By the next CBA, it'll be what, $260 million or so in 2028? And with what draft penalties?

Love how the MFY aren't even including their very top prospects with these moves, while we're clamoring for JD and Vaz to get us Dom Smith and some shitty filler. Awesome, let's go all in for a guy that has been dreadful in his last 650 AB's for 2 All-Stars.

I'm not expecting Bloom to really do much of note. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if he's really convinced this squad can sneak into a WC spot.

Apologies in advance for the pissy post, but with the way this season has gone by the wayside - I'm not expecting much at all.

Who exactly is "clamoring" for that? There is a difference between reporting and discussing rumors and wishing for them to come true.

Yankees get stars every deadline and never give up their high end prospects. its uncanny and frustrating.
They have a very good and deep farm system. Getting good players for prospect outside the top 5 is a product of that.

It is yet another example of why people need to give Bloom more time To set this thing up for sustained success.

Yeah, it’s also super annoying how they keep winning in October because of it.

Oh, wait. ;)

Trades are two-way streets. You have to give in order to get. Smith doesn't have positive value. He's a DFA candidate by NYM after the trade deadline. BOS taking Smith allows BOS to get a slightly better prospect. BOS also would value Smith higher then NYM because they need to fill out the LH side of the 1B platoon for the rest of the season (and send Franchy to the OF or AAA). Smith's contract also lessens the financial burden of trading for JDM. BOS gets a bigger benefit because JDM's AAV is larger than his cash outlay, which means that NYM pays less cash and BOS saves more AAV, which is important if one of your goals is to get below the luxury tax threshold this season.

It doesn't have to be Dom Smith, they could take back JD Davis, for many of the same reasons, but Smith has a higher upside if Smith were to tap into it in a Red Sox uniform.

For sure, I should have rephrased that better. Not clamoring, but that's the main talking point from the media and in the thread here.

I've been a Bloom defender and understand completely the mess he inherited, but this deadline and come offseason there better be some path of how this organization is moving forward. Between the trade rumors, no extension for Devers yet - I'm starting to get a bit concerned.

I have yet to see any evidence that all of these MFY pitching prospects have done any more than being coached really well to master getting out minor league hitters.

Look at Glen Otto for example.Big minor league numbers and sky high K rate. And he sucks in the majors and is already 27 years old.

I don’t really follow other teams prospects- but how has the MFY’s vaunted pitching depth panned out- both for them and in trades?
I recall the LAAAAA being a powerhouse mL organization that turned out…. Ummmm…. Well nobody. Ended up being a lot of smoke and mirrors and park effects

The MFY traded two 50FV prospects (one of whom is in the MLBP top 100 and both are in the Fangraphs top 60), plus another top 20 prospect in their system. It wasn't as gross an overpay as SEA with Castillo, but it wasn't highway robbery either. Compare it to trading Schreiber, Bello and Mata.

OAK just filled out a quarter of their future pitching staff with cost-controlled talent.

This is kind of a mystifying post to me. The Angels last had a great farm system in, what, 2006? And then Brandon Wood busted, Erick Aybar never really hit like he had in the minors, Kendrys Morales messed up his ankle, and Nick Adenhart was killed in a car accident. But even with that series of calamities, Jered Weaver, Mike Napoli, and Howie Kendrick all had pretty great careers.

The Angels have generally been ranked in the bottom five systems since, well, Mike Trout debuted, and that's a big part of why they are the way they are.

As for NYY, don't they have three-fifths of a homegrown starting rotation, a couple more in the bullpen?

Well they have Severino, Montgomery, and German all in the rotation. A ton of bullpen arms that are homegrown. Yea, their system has done pretty well for them.

Murphy is the 37th most valuable trade asset in the league according to Ben Clemens' recent trade value pieces on Fangraphs. Would cost a ton and not the kind of distressed asset you'd expect Bloom to go after

A co-worker is very close to Daniel Vogelbach. His agent has been told there have been discussions of him being part of a deal for JDM. No guarantees, but it might be him rather than Smith.
