Wong has hit a few legit HRs this year despite his stature.

Although this is how I prefer to remember him:

The best part of this was the StL radio broadcast, where they were laughing out loud at the idea of holding him on

Kick save, and a beauty!
And does it bother anyone else that "the best fans in America" insist on giving a curtain call to any of their players that hit a home run in game frickin' 3 of an NLDS?
Aw shucks!

That never gets old!  But I am thrilled for Kolten Wong. Been watching him play since high school. Another Hawaii kid!
Going by minor league numbers and his debut this year (after the initial false start and getting sent back down) he looks legit to me. Could be 15HR, 30+ steals level player. If he can push the OBP towards his minor league numbers then he is a stud.

You could do a lot worse than Haren.

August:

33.2 IP
3.48 ERA
1.10 WHIP
26:7 K/BB

September:

30.0 IP
2.70 ERA
0.73 WHIP
27:3 K/BB
Sure, he was better in Aug/Sept than earlier in the year, but do you start him ahead of the best pitcher in baseball? You can have Haren ready in relief and Kershaw on a short leash, but Kershaw has never shown anything to suggest he can't go on 3 days rest. Plus there is the added benefit that if you end up in a game 5, you get to go with Greinke. Seems like a pretty easy call to me.

The real Brian Wilson might be a better pitching choice at this point in time.  The Dodgers' pen was an excellent closer, Jansen, a good setup junkballer in Howell a decent guy in League who you don't trust in high leverage and a cast of thousands.  Elbert was a loogy who pitched 4 innings this year.

Mattingly had it on his index card before the game that Howell would pitch the eighth. Not that it matters, he sucks, too.
Kind of like Brad Ausmus had a post-it taped to his clamshell phone in game 2 that Chamberlain was his 8th inning guy.

Really makes you appreciate Playoff Tito and how he used Foulke and Okajima in '04 and '07.

If he stays this hot, they'll soon be calling him Molten Wong (seeing as he's another Hawaii kid).

At least when Yost does stupid stuff, it's unpredictably stupid

What's the feeling on Panda and the whole . . obesity issue?  Looking at Bref, I see that his OPS+ has gone down the last 3 straight years.  He's a bit scary, too, isn't he?

Scary, but buoyant!

Not really -- I prefer Xander at 3B, but that's probably 1-2 years away.

Ah, the charm of umpiring failure.

Leave Dale Scott alone! It's difficult for a man with advanced Parkinson's to call balls and strikes.

From the sport that won't let you turn on the stadium lights in the middle of an inning due to an unfair advantage, this guy get's a reworked mound

Those of us who detest the Dodger smugness are holding our noses and rooting that St Louis loses to whoever wins the other series

Gabe Kapler in the postgame show looks damn good, as per his usual standards.

It's probably pretty universal around here... aside from the Rays and Yankees, the Dodgers (mostly Crawford) are my least favorite team, and Baltimore is fourth (2011 celebration, Buck, Cruz). I don't want to see the Cardinals win the World Series, but it'd be much worse to see the Orioles or Dodgers win it, in my eyes at least.

Order of preference for remaining teams: Royals - - Nationals - - - - - - Giants - - - - - - - - - - - - Cardinals - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Orioles - - Dodgers

My head hurts. That's the last time I don't mute HR for the game.
Maybe I should schedule an appointment with some kind of head doctor, but Harold didn't seem quite as obtuse last night. He made some stupid comments but he also made some that had some insight. He did play ball for some years and had to have picked up some things to add over a Joe Buck who may have played badminton. Or, maybe I'm resigned to the fact that we are stuck with him and what are you going to do?
