My inability to commit to a more obscure lifelong Dodger cost me a single-digit score today. Willard Hershberger (I assume I don't need to spoiler that) was another really talented player with a tragically short career whose SABR bio should be read if you're unfamiliar with his story.

Could've been even lower. Had 8 out of 8 and came to the 'only one team' for the Dodgers. Thought of using Del Bissonette but wasn't totally confident in that choice so I went with a safe answer.
Very happy with my Pete Hamm choice; only reason I knew of him was I saw him play against the Red Sox in '70 or '71 and he was sending notes to some woman out near the bleachers in right.
Reggie Smith hit a homer in that game and my Uncle caught the ball!

Yeah, the Willard Hershberger story was sad. SI has a great article: Razor's Edge

Couldn't come with a better answer than Willie Wilson for a KCR scoring 100 runs and wanted to stay away from George Brett

Had an interesting thing with my grid today-- a 61.7% difference in the rarity scores between 2 players on my grid.

Gerrit Cole for the Pirate with 200 Ks (62%), and Walt "No-Neck" Williams who played for NYY and the White Sox (0.3%).

What's the biggest difference in rarity scores you've had between 2 players in the same Immaculate Grid?

In yesterday's grid, I had a rarity difference of 24.6% between players in the same column-- Gold Glove winners. That seems like a pretty big difference for players in the same category. I'm sure peole have had bigger ones though.
Omar Vizquel with Cleveland (25%) and Ken Reitz with the Cardinals (0.4%).

I almost used Gerry Moses for my Red Sox All-Star. Was pretty sure he made it one time but didn't want to chance it.

Good to see Joe Vosmik "The Striking Viking". I think it may have been Indians owner Alva Bradley's wife who called him that.

9/9 - Very happy with my Red Sox Picks - particularly the Expos/Nationals and the Rockies. I really thought Dustin Hermanson's sideburns were so cool looking when I was 13.

This might be the only time I get to use two guys – Tekulve and Mulholland – from my alma mater who pitched for the 'Etta Express.

This one was less challenging (no Rays or DBacks) but a lot of fun for a 70's child like me. Not my best but still happy with an RS of 10. The guy in the center hit the only foul ball I've caught at an MLB game. Was worried that I wouldn't be able to come up with a better career Cub than Ernie Banks

I had to test it today and although b-ref does display National Association statistics the same as major league stats, Immaculate Grid does side with MLB in not recognizing the NA as a major league. In other words, Cap Anson is a lifetime Cub despite his main b-ref page showing his years with Rockford and Philadelphia in the NA. However, even though MLB now recognizes the negro leagues as majors, I'm pretty sure I've gotten correct answers in the Immaculate Grid's "one team" category by using former negro leaguers who only played with one team after leaving the negro leagues… I'm certain I used Jim Gilliam for the Dodgers recently, though it's possible that was the Crossover Grid and maybe they could have different standards.

My best rarity score ever but I think could have done better on my upper right hand corner.

Obviously an all-time best rarity score for me. Had 8/8 and was stuck on trying to come up with a NYY/Cinci player that wouldn't blow up my score and came up with Bob Meusel who I have used a few times in previous grids.

Not surprised to see a couple of 1's posted. Hit my low with an RS of 3, first time I had below 1% on all 9 squares. Three old franchises and two modest benchmarks yields a ton of possible answers

Oh, come on! I got my second 2 RS. Still haven't gotten a 1. I was having fun with a couple of these – a guy from my alma mater (Mulholland) and a guy who grew up 20 miles from where I did (Brenly) and I knew a couple of his relatives – if I'd have come up with something obscure for one of them, I'd have my 1.

...or if TPGC had picked someone different for his center square or DNS had someone else center-right, maybe I'd have gotten my 1. :D

I'm kicking myself for not going with Satch in the Cleveland column. And I'll never do one of these without using Pedro if he fits.

In my nearest miss ever, I went 8/9 with a 103 RS. There were several fairly obscure .300 hitters for Cleveland I'm sure I could have gotten at less than 1%, but I got too cute and guessed the immortal Braggo Roth who's highest average in Cleveland was .299.

I don't play this every day so this might well not be rare, but I never got a 0 for a score for any player-- but yesterday I had 2 with 0 rarity scores:
Jeff Reardon and Lee Smith

2 guys who are not at all unknown, especially for Sox fans. Was there some kind of a weird glitch with them this time? They both appeared as correct answers but with 0 for rarity scores. And I wasn't even trying for a low score, I never get a really low one and already spend way too much time on it when I try to go for rarity.

Weird.

Went with seven knuckleball pitchers and two pitchers who probably threw one just for kicks

So, I’m finding that I lean on my Swiss Army knife guys: Edwin Jackson, Octavio Dotel, Matt Stairs. I prefer the categories where it isn’t “name this guy who has played for two teams” for that reason.
