When you’re up 3-1, you should be able to close out a series. 91% of teams up 3-1 close it out. Last year the Bruins fell into the 9%. To do it again a year later is inexcusable.Neither of these teams are good. The last two games were coin flips with fluky goals. Not sure what all the “fire Monty” is about. This team was never going anywhere.
Yeah, and they lost in OT and were down 1-0 on a fluky deflection goal. I get it. They have no forward depth. Coyle is C1. This was a bridge year and they over performed. When you’re up 3-1, you should be able to close out a series. 91% of teams up 3-1 close it out. Last year the Bruins fell into the 9%. I’m right with you outside that I’d probably be fine with Monty being gone after this. Prefer to keep him but wouldn’t be crushed. This team has no top end offensive talent outside one superstar and a 36 year old.Neither of these teams are good. The last two games were coin flips with fluky goals. Not sure what all the “fire Monty” is about. This team was never going anywhere.
They've also blown a 3-1 series lead to an inferior team.Yeah, and they lost in OT and were down 1-0 on a fluky deflection goal. I get it. They have no forward depth. Coyle is C1. This was a bridge year and they over performed.
They haven’t blown anything yet Felix. They've also blown a 3-1 series lead to an inferior team.
He’s talking about last year. The one in which the same “They don’t have enough talent, though,” explanation for pretty much the same phenomenon doesn’t really work. They haven’t blown anything yet Felix.
I’m not sure Florida was the inferior team lat year either. He’s talking about last year. The one in which the same “They don’t have enough talent, though,” explanation for pretty much the same phenomenon doesn’t really work.
They did blow a 3-1, what are you on about. The series is tiedThey haven’t blown anything yet Felix.
Yeah, was just saying they haven’t lost the series yet, despite the macabre tone in here. Enjoy the night folks! They did blow a 3-1, what are you on about. The series is tied
Then you could never be sure of anything. The Bruins blew the league away in points last year and were favored going into that series. They finished ahead of Toronto this year, and were favored going into this series (although it’s much closer). So basically, you’re left complaining that the Bruins in both years simply didn’t have enough talent to beat lower seeds. Drastically lower last year, a team that barely snuck into the playoffs, and you’re not convinced that the Bruins were better.I’m not sure Florida was the inferior team lat year either.
Have any blown single 3-0 leads? No team in NHL, MLB, NBA history has blown back to back 3-1 leads
Yankees! and (ironically) Bruins. Also three other times in the NHL.Have any blown single 3-0 leads?
(Sorry, a little Red Sox humor for levity.)
Yeah, I was at the Bruins's Game 7 loss, but it doesn't count because they won the Cup the next year.Yankees! and (ironically) Bruins. Also three other times in the NHL.
It’s never happened in the NBA. Kind of interesting to look into.
On the other hand if they keep blowing 3-1 series leads the percentage won’t look so bad anymore. When you’re up 3-1, you should be able to close out a series. 91% of teams up 3-1 close it out. Last year the Bruins fell into the 9%. To do it again a year later is inexcusable.
Well this is awkward. After basically swearing off this team last night and thinking I might not even watch much of game 7, I just fell into decent tickets. My wife and I had a conversation about whether we should go, knowing that we could end up witnessing ignominious history - but of course we'll be there.
Well, to start, Felix and I were talking about this year. Then you could never be sure of anything. The Bruins blew the league away in points last year and were favored going into that series. They finished ahead of Toronto this year, and were favored going into this series (although it’s much closer). You’re not arguing variance in short series for both years; you’re arguing talent level. It’s a take, I guess.
I agree with the first part, but I don't see the Bruins losing 4 in a row next round. Let's hope we find out.I don’t want to see the Bruins lose this series. If they do, I don’t think you fire Montgomery for it. I’d argue they over-performed this year in what was a bridge year and this postseason is all gravy. I also think both of these teams are likely to be swept next round.
Monty has helped deliver great results in the regular season 2 years in a row.I don’t want to see the Bruins lose this series. If they do, I don’t think you fire Montgomery for it. Yeah, I get it. Just don’t think you fire him on such a small sample size with two very different teams. Not sure the results are correlated.Monty has helped deliver great results in the regular season 2 years in a row.
Monty has helped deliver poor (arguably atrocious if they lose Saturday) results in the playoffs 2 years in a row.
If he can't help them deliver great results in the playoffs, he needs to go, unless the organization is happy to just get great results in the regular season (which hopefully is not the case).
I really don't get the "he has to be fired" talk, but I get everyone's emotions are insanely high.Yeah, I get it. Just don’t think you fire him on such a small sample size with two very different teams. Not sure the results are correlated.
Understood and while I would disagree with it, I can see the case for keeping him (based on regular season results). What I struggle with more, is that we're seeing very similar things in the post season this year so its worrisome that he's not learning fast enough or he is learrning but the players aren't responding. Either way its enough for me to move on.Yeah, I get it. Just don’t think you fire him on such a small sample size with two very different teams. Not sure the results are correlated.
I'm definitely guilty of some emotional and recency bias, but add in this is the second year with similar things and I'm ready to move on.I really don't get the "he has to be fired" talk, but I get everyone's emotions are insanely high.
And that's what you do in hockey. Monty will just be the next one to go in a long line of them.I'm definitely guilty of some emotional and recency bias, but add in this is the second year with similar things and I'm ready to move on.
or just lose like 2-0 or 3-1They're either going to win, 6-1, or lose in OT on a greasy goal by some Toronto fuckwad.
It’s even better to be a fan of a team that has been eliminated per folks here but gets to still play Game 7 regardless. On the bright side, it’s great to be a fan of a team that generally does pretty well in the regular season and consistently makes the playoffs.
