I listened a bit to their WAR discussion and I love how Felger started...."WAR, whatever that is and something I don't understand nor ever talk about, says...."

It's like having an 8 year old explain the conflicts in the Middle East

Edit: Not to say that it was hate filled like D&C, more locker room "Would you do her", type cringeworthy comments.

What's your point?

Their opinion on how she looks wasn't the cringeworthy part, they could have said that she was ugly and they wouldn't touch her, it was the joking around about it, asking what she had down below now, "turn around for me honey" etc... that I thought was immature and unnecessary.  Not enough to make me change the channel but enough to have me think... C'mon guys, you'e better than this, grow up a little bit.

I tuned in at 2 because Felger in the past has seemed open minded about soccer talk when there's been big issues to talk about, and frankly today would be a great day to talk about it. He promptly announced his intention to talk about Deflategate some more. Ok, back to Pandora.

WTF, what more is there to talk about?  Holy crap.

Haven't the vast majority of fans moved on from this until the June 23rd hearing or is it still a big thing in New England right now?

Edit: Yup, still talking about it.... click.

That's unfortunate, because the FIFA story is absolutely riveting.  I really hope Dale and Holley are talking about it when I get out of work.

When there's not a HUGE topic that's been flogged to death (like Deflategate) they're okay to listen to. They have their ticks (they hate, HATE Hanley Ramirez for some reason) but otherwise, it's a way to pass the time while in traffic on a Thursday afternoon.

At the end of the day F&M is sports radio and I think that a lot of us are tilting at windmills here. There is never going to be a SoSH radio program at 2:00 pm every day for four hours, nor is there going to be two guys yakking on the radio with whom you have the exact same opinion all the time (unless one of those dudes are you). Felger and Mazz are okay. Yes, there are times when they suck and yes, there are times when they inform and entertain, but for most of the time they're somewhere in between. And that's okay because I'm not sure if there's any of form of entertainment that is 100% in either camp.

To be honest, I don't think they're that bad on 3 of the 4 sports. When the local team is in disarray and deserves criticism, they are very entertaining to listen to. Unfortunately they are excruciatingly bad as it pertains to the Patriots because of the extreme bias they have against the team. If the Patriots were the Red Sox, coming in last place in 2 out of the last 3 seasons? I wouldn't have much of a problem with the treatment the team gets, because they would deserve it (outside of Deflategate/Spygate). Pats just won the Super Bowl though and have been in the final 4 for four consecutive seasons and still get crapped on 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.

What could he possibly be ripping LeBron for?  What could anyone be ripping him for?  That the Cavs have won 2 games in the finals with the supporting cast he has is nothing short of amazing to me.

I tuned in only for the first 30 minutes, but one of his points was his histrionics and over-selling his fall into the camera bay. He made a comparison of baseball players getting hit by a 95 mph fastball, brushing it off and immediately taking his base.

um, yeah...not sure how the rest of the show went (side note: ESPN2 was nice enough to show Croatia-Italy Euro 2016 qualifier being played in an empty stadium...if there were more live sporting events on, I would never head over to F&M!)

He might have gotten more traction if he compared it to a certain shortstop diving into the stands unnecessarily after catching a pop fly in fair territory.

I caught part of this discussion -- Felger said the word "histrionics" about four times.  And he pronounces it "HISS-TRONICS."  It's funny as hell.

So they bring up bias and politics into why AEI did this report.  Funny, no mention of any biases of why Ted Wells was picked to do an "independent investigation".

There's been tons of Wells/independence talk, just not recently.

And the question is a good one: why is AEI spending its money/resources on this?

Absolutely. While the paper states its authors have no stake in the outcome of this controversy, it also neglects to report if there were any donors beforehand. Myself, I think it likely that Hassett et al. simply wanted to correct a wrong. But the cost of doing so - even if it was < 1% of the $5M the NFL spent - shouldn't be discounted out of hand.

Publicity, son.  This was a marketing spend.

Probably, though I prefer the conspiracy theory that AEI has identified Brady as a future candidate for office and wants to lay the groundwork for his Senate campaign in ten years. Brady, R-MA is a goal the AEI BOD could get behind.

Yes he is correct. No real thought proving stuff with that. It's no he goes about it.

Felger and Mazz go back and forth and then you hear chiming in THEY SUCK EVERYONE HERE SUCKS THIS SUCKS I HATE EVERYONE!

I listen to F&M as I sit in traffic and it seems like his role has evolved from "sometimes saying something remotely interesting from the peanut gallery" to yelling and screaming about the Red Sox.

Stewart said the teams have come unprepared out of Spring Training for two straight years. They were in 1st place at the beginning of the year for a time. But you know why let the facts get in the way of a hot take

I think he's trying to fit in but at the same time, what do you expect them to say.

The Sox Suck

Nothing going on with the Bruins or Celtics

Patriots are done with practice and deflategate has run its course.

At least they aren't pissing and moaning about Revis' mom.

Saddle up folks it's going to be a loooooooooong summer for sports radio.

The sprint to the top of the standings to open the season involved beating up the Phillies (making it even harder to catch them for the #1 pick in 2016) and a Nationals team that seemingly left all gloves in Viera.

Not in the sense that they're going to accomplish anything this year and I do want Farrell to be fired but just throwing it out there for how the program and now Stewart tend to build up straw men

Straw men?    Since 2012, they have a record of 265-288.  That is with a 97 win season thrown in there.  Jimmy Stewart is not throwing a straw man argument out.  For 3 of the last 4 years, the Red Sox have flat out sucked.  I don't want to hear about selling off at the deadline made the records look worse than they should have been.  If they had a good enough team, they wouldn't have sold off all their parts.

And don't forget about the joy that was September of 2011.

Guys, aside from one year, this team has been terrible since the last month of the 2011 season. Terrible. I don't know exactly what you want any one who follows this team to say. Really. What do you want them to talk about?

I guess I am more bothered by Stewart because I thought he was funny when he would just chime in with a witty (sorta) one liner. It broke up the sometimes painful F&M. He brings nothing to the table other than yelling (literally. Yelling at the top of his lungs) about the Sox.

I just thought it was a new development in the show. He used to be used very rarely, and now he's like front and center.

It's almost like he's taking over for Beetle instead of Murray. In all seriousness if not for the 20 20 updates when does Murray speak?

Surprisingly they are being very reasonable today.

Yesterday with Keefe and Jones was absolutely brutal, they are horrible on the radio and I can't imagine anyone listens to them at night. You could tell that Felger was annoyed as shit, not because they were challenging him, but because they were just being dumb.

Yeah no. I just turned it on and they've determined that the whole reason the NFL is adamant about the phone is that they have incriminating text messages to Brady and they want Brady's phone to be able to include them in the Wells Report

Not sure why they cant comprehend Brady not wanting to hand over a phone to a report and league that suspended him four games for possibly maybe telling someone to possibly violate a rule.

I think you are confusing the issue. They understand why Brady didn't turn over the phone, most likely under his lawyers recommendation. However they are under the impression that that action is why Goodell gave him 4 games.

Also, Matt Light needs to stay off the radio, he sounded like an idiot and didn't help Brady's case at all.

Now they're bashing Schefter because he said Brady did a good job in his appeal. So anti-Patriots it's almost funny. I'm not saying Brady's innocent but come on. Is Schefter supposed to not report facts now?

I actually turned it on for a few minutes on the drive home last night for some unknown reason.  The thrust of the conversation I heard went like this:

1.  We agree that the NFL is a clownshoes organization and has screwed up the investigation into deflategate in a million different ways.  And Goodell is a power-hungry jerk who has over-penalized the Pats because he's trying to appear tough to the world after the Ray Rice fiasco.

2.  However, we have little to no sympathy for the Pats or Brady because they cheated.  If they were actually innocent things might be different, but since they are guilty they deserve whatever penalty they might get and who cares about the NFL's procedural errors or Goodell's overstepping.

Apparently the thought never crosses their mind that if #1 is true that it may cast some doubt as to the basis for levying any penalty to begin with.  And in fact anyone who thinks that there is a chance that nothing happened is a homer.  Anyone who isn't sure what happened but thinks the NFL hasn't proven its case is arguing technicalities, and is a homer.

That'll be it for me in terms of listening to them for the foreseeable future.

I'm out of market so I don't see his TV work, but I think Felger's contrarian stance on Deflategate ("Brady did it") is probably 90% explained by driving ratings. He's adopted CHB's model. Its annoying, but I don't blame him for self-interest.

Mazz is along for the ride and dough and is simply not alpha enough to offset Felger.
