Remember when we were all bent out of shape when Jeter gift-wrapped Stanton to the MFY?

Matt Clement?

Wasn;t an ace though
From Wikipedia: “As a member of the Boston Red Sox in the 2005 season, Clement was named as an All-Star Game selection for the first time in his big league career, replacing injured Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halliday. Clement’s record was 10-2 before the All-Star break, and he finished the season at 13-6 with a 4.57 ERA. On July 16, 2005, Clement was struck in the head by a line drive by Carl Crawford of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

I had completely forgotten that Crawford was the hitter

Yep. I loved him, and totally wanted him on the Sox. Go figure.
After this season, he has $32M, $32M, $29M, $25M guaranteed ... then a $10M buyout if they don't pick up his 2028 $25M option

The only real value if Kluber is that he can perhaps save position players from consuming garbage outs, albeit at a very high price.

I think the rule is "3 effective innings" so the official scorer might need a bribe, the way it's going.
Wait a minute, if Kluber finishes the game with only allowing that 1 run, maybe he gets the win. Does Jacques really qualify as "effective"?

Well, he has to pitch to contact in this situation. It's not a nail biter and it's not as though they're going to take his CYA away

Honestly, the Kluber signing was like last year’s JBJ trade, both of which seemed to make no sense as a casual fan and that you assume the brain trust has inside info and analysis to justify. But this guy was toast last year and he is even more burnt this year. Hard to trust people who I could outsmart from watching random games.

Fair point. Official scorer could decide Jacques wasn't "effective." But I'll go with home cooking. Jacques for a win, Kluber a save.

I think you'll have to do more than just say "Kluber was toast last year" to make it be true.

Great post, apart from all the blatantly incorrect stuff.

Duran grabs a garbage double off IKF to pad the stats a bit. Refsnyder missed his chance.
Barring an injury we do not know of, guess getting Ref an AB was more important to Cora than the possibility of Masa going 5-5. But to this fan it ain't.

If this winds up 15-14, Brian "the Cashman" Cashman will furiously kick his own ass

Masa getting a fifth hit off IKF really wouldn't count

We were just hearing earlier in the week how Masa can get tired during the season; the NPB schedule has a lot more days off.
