Who was the former Cubs ace who came to the Red Sox and got seriously beaned off a batted ball playing for Boston? It was maybe 15 years ago and I can’t retrieve his name from my aging brain. Tall skinny guy who was going well and then I think that pretty much ended his career.

Clement. But his arm was already toast before that

Maybe, but he was on a pronounced run of bad performances before getting hit.
His arm was shredded by Dusty Baker before he ever got here. He was a ticking time bomb that exploded just in time to cost us in 2005. Everyone likes to retcon that season into "we were never gonna win anyway," but that ChiSox team wasn't that great, and Clement lost game 1 in the 1st inning (not blaming him; he was toast).
