He'll overcome it quick, I think. Give him half a season. For a player like Zizic, a non-lottery pick with no NBA experience, "not a starter" is the default expectation that he needs to overcome.

I liked what I saw as well: long, strong and active is a good place to start your NBA (summer) league career. He'll overcome it quick, I think. Give him half a season.
Come on, really? No one is going to base anything on 1 summer league game...It's based on that he is a raw 20yr old rookie, that played overseas, he's joining an elite NBA team and he has to learn Brad's system/style of play. He's not a starter based on 1 game? Let's judge him on a bigger sample size. I liked what I saw out of Ante yesterday.
I have a feeling it's going to be Jahlil Okafor. Danny was still kicking the tires on him and Philly is looking to move on. In the ideal world, they'd be targeting one of Philly's other bigs, Richaun Holmes. He's exactly the type of player the Celtics need and I have a feeling he's going to bust out if/when given a chance. 6'10 245 lbs of muscle, great athlete, can block shots, can cover guards on the perimeter, has 3 point range, only turns 24 in October and is on a cheap 2nd round contract for another year. All reasons why Philly wouldn't trade him but given all their F/C assets, maybe. His wingspan is kind of lacking for a PF/C at 7'1.5, but nothing too terrible and after the all star break, he averaged 13.6 pgg, 6.9rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.2 bpg, 1.0spg on .581/.345/.774 shooting in 26.9 minutes of play. 2.5 3PA per game. In his college career, he shot .554/.353/.697.I can't imagine that Zizic or Theiss are starting for this team in the fall. More likely it is, Olynyk, a big they sign with the Room Exception, or someone they get in a trade for one of their wings.
Thing is, he could easily be a starter while only playing 10 minutes a game. They could do what the Bucks did last year with Thon Maker. Start him for the first 5-6 minutes of each half and 13-14 minutes a night. Hell, Amir only got 20.Come on, really? Zizic will be fine and Brad/team will develop him. If he plays 10 effective mins/game for the team this year that would be a HUGE win. I get the initial enthusiasm, but we probably need to pump the brakes on penciling him in as a starter getting major minutes.
People are getting way too horny about the term starter.I can't imagine that Zizic or Theiss are starting for this team in the fall. More likely it is, Olynyk, a big they sign with the Room Exception, or someone they get in a trade for one of their wings.
Which is fine as long as he signs. If it was such a slam dunk though, you'd think GH would have already made an announcement. Obviously none of this matters if the GH signing comes through, but if not I think Ainge is going to really regret not reaching out to Milsap and/or Gallnari. I still think this means he never had any interest in either, which really is surprising...Probably the same reason he refused to make a deal before signing GH into the cap space...they know he's signing. Every move they have and haven't made indicates this.

I hope not. He's a terrible fit next to Horford and if he doesn't like SA's system he isn't going to like the Celtics. My hunch is Aldridge is the trade target.
Did the Celtics renounce all the "old" cap holds to get Horford last season? I thought there were some that remained from the mid-2000sI'm guessing their starting center will be Horford. They have a ton of young options at pf, starting with Tatum and Yabusele. And don't forget Crowder if he's still around.
So what happens now with Hayward apparently in the fold? It looks like Bradley or Crowder will have to go unless Hayward agrees to take less than the max. Olynyk too. (I believe if they simply pull his qualifying offer his cap hold remains. In order to remove the hold they must renounce him, and lose Bird rights.) They must renounce Jerebko and Gerald Green too.
Horford Zizic
Tatum Yabusele, Theiss
Brown (Crowder?) Ojeleye
Hayward (Bradley?)
IT, Smart Rozier (Jackson?)
Other options: Kadeem Allen, Jabari Bird, cheap veteran free agents.
They renounced all those old cap holds in 2015 to sign Amir. Nice knowing you Carlos Arroyo!Did the Celtics renounce all the "old" cap holds to get Horford last season? I thought there were some that remained from the mid-2000s
Depends what they moved to fit Hayward in and how much Green is signing for. What's left to trade in a sign and trade?
Jackson, Mickey, Rozier, Crowder? What's left to trade in a sign and trade?
It would've been Olynyk/Jerebko, but they just renounced Olynyk. What's left to trade in a sign and trade?
Mickey is getting cut and 2 of the other 3 there are likely getting traded for no salary to get Hayward in. It would have to be something like trading Marcus and Jackson for no salary to get Hayward, then Crowder and Bradley for Green.... which seems like a terrible deal to me.Jackson, Mickey, Rozier, Crowder?
They don't have an option. They need to dump all the FA holds plus cut Mickey, plus move at least 1 maybe 2 other contracts via trade just to sign Hayward. It would've been Olynyk/Jerebko, but they just renounced Olynyk.
They must have a trade/signing for a big locked in or they're going to play really small.
I'm aware, his question was what would've been available to sign and trade for Hayward. Not what's left to sign and trade after we sign Hayward into cap space. Unless I misunderstood the question. They don't have an option. They need to dump all the FA holds plus cut Mickey, plus move at least 1 maybe 2 other contracts via trade just to sign Hayward.
The Bigs will likely come from the room exception and minimum exceptions.
Yeah, I was thinking it would have to be AB+Crowder too and that would be awulf but I guess it depends on Green's contract. Seems non max players aren't really getting paid this off season unless it's 1 year deals. Is he going to get 3/30 or 3/48?Mickey is getting cut and 2 of the other 3 there are likely getting traded for no salary to get Hayward in. It would have to be something like trading Marcus and Jackson for no salary to get Hayward, then Crowder and Bradley for Green.... which seems like a terrible deal to me.
Nah, it's could we sign Hayward and then make a sign and trade for Green?I'm aware, his question was what would've been available to sign and trade for Hayward. Not what's left to sign and trade after we sign Hayward into cap space. Unless I misunderstood the question.
It's why I said, would've been.
So he can play 70 games over the next 2 years? No thanks. I'd rather they target Alan Williams.Crowder and Bradley to Phoenix for Tyson Chandler.
They need a mobile 4 who can defend both the perimeter and the paint more than a true 5 like Chandler. Noel seems to fit that niche, but I have no idea how that would work salary wise.Crowder and Bradley to Phoenix for Tyson Chandler.
It's not enough salary difference so you would still need to make an additional subtractive move.Crowder and Bradley to Phoenix for Tyson Chandler.
Alas, that's true. I guess Bradley for a young, inexpensive big is more feasible. It's not enough salary difference so you would still need to make an additional subtractive move.
Makes no sense unless they move Horford in the deal. It would 3 of AB/IT4/Crowder/Smart.Gasol is owed $22M this season. How are the Celtics going to match salaries in a deal while signing Hayward?
Per Mannix, two league executives consider Marc Gasol a player to watch as Celtics angle for further upgrades.
No idea how this would work, but I like the fit of the player
Gasol 32yo. 3years left at 22-26mil with a 15% trade kicker.
BravoThat's not going to make that other thread go away anytime soon.
If it is within 5%, they are fine to make a trade. They would still have to move Rozier+Jackson+1m prior to trading for Gasol as well. There is no way Gasol is coming to Boston. Guessing someone just made this rumor up without actually looking into the logistics.Love the fit, but don't see how Gasol gets done. Crowder, Bradley, Smart, + need more salary, LAL/SAC pick or Memphis pick?
Horford for Gasol doesn't work since Memphis is over the cap. They would have to include someone else. You aren't clearing cap space with Memphis.Maybe it would be Horford and picks because they don't want to move on from one of Smart/AB/Crowder to fit Gordon? Free up enough with the Horford /Gasol swap to get Hayward. Looks like top many guards/wings but what do I know. It doesn't seem like moving 6 guys or Tatum/Brown makes sense. Probably there just isn't anything to it
