Nah, looks like a knee. Ugly either way, I assume that's season. Big loss.

Nope, that's an aircast, so something broke.

What the fuck is going on with this game? How is Manning that good?

It's probably just as much the injury situation on the SF defense as Manning is good.

Back when the game was competitive Kaepernixk couldn't handle the blitz. (I am catching up on DVR). His int happened when the Denver D walked 7 guys up to the line and brought them all. Kaep threw high and off balance and it went right to Talib. Same thing on some key plays in the first half. Broncos D is playing well but if the QB can't make the D pay for an obvious blitz, in today's NFL, that QB is going nowhere.

The Denver offense is clicking on all 8 cylinders right now, but one has to wonder about a) the SF injury situation, which is abysmal, and 2) whether any of tonight's showing can be attributed to the supposed Harbaugh tension...I hate gossip, but it would seem that SF is in a bad way right now. Tonight's performance—especially against the run—would have been unthinkable even 12 or 18 months ago...

I don't think this has anything to do with the Harbaugh tension.  When you are starting six backups on defense away to Denver on a short week after a road Monday night game, there's always a decent chance you'll get crushed.  Nearly the same thing happened in 2012 -- they played a brutally tough SNF road game in New England that they won 41-34 (the defense was on the field for something like 95 plays in that game), and then they had to play on the road at Seattle the next week.  They got waxed 42-13.  That 2012 team ended up five yards short of a championship.

I don't know about the tension either, but that team, particularly the D, is incredibly undisciplined. I think that can only be attributed to coaching, given the consistency of the issue.

I think a lot of the lack of discipline was a result of the injuries.  They were starting three backups at linebacker (missing Smith, Bowman, and Willis), and two of their top four corners were out (Culliver and Ward) while a third (Brock) was playing injured and barely practiced this week.  Their nickel corner last night was Dontae Johnston, a rookie who was a 4th round pick this year.  They couldn't play dime because the dime back for last night (Chris Cook) got hurt early in the game and played only five snaps, leaving them only three healthy corners active for the rest of the game.

Have you watched their previous games and thought they were undisciplined?  I can think of only the Arizona game where that was something of an issue.  The D had actually been quite good until this week -- third in defensive DVOA before last night's game (it will obviously drop after last night's debacle).

LaGarrette Blount on the kickoff return for the Steelers, just like for the Pats last year. Go figure.....and we all thought it was just BB wackiness.

The Steelers don't aren't known for firing coaches, but any chance Tomlin is on the hot seat this year?
Coaches who have been to multiple SBs with the same team are seldom fired, and as you note, the Steelers have placed a higher value on continuity than most teams. Absent some indication he has lost the locker room, Tomlin will be back.

If the Steelers are still languishing like this a year from now, then ownership's patience might begin to wear thin.

What in the name of God was that play.

It's a pretty crafty design. Since Brown is a lefty the D commits to the edge thinking Brown is going around the end, but they design the cutback to not only confuse the defense but put Brown on a better throwing side.

And Fitzpatrick throws a pick. This escalated quickly.
