My favorite part is the Tebow fanatics who are out $100 after buying a replica Tebow jersey. Talk about your bad investments.
Maybe that was the whole idea. Sign Tebow, sell a shitload of jerseys to morons, cut him before he has the ability to lose a real game for you, profit.mt8thsw9th said:My favorite part is the Tebow fanatics who are out $100 after buying a replica Tebow jersey. Talk about your bad investments.
6. Does having Tebow around divert some of the circus away from coverage of things the Pats would just as soon not have covered? (e.g. The Gronk circus, Brandon Spikes, Amendola/Welker comparisons, the Pats' more controversial draft picks... am i missing anything?)PaulinMyrBch said:I think this was a lot simpler than we all want to admit. Looking at it from pure football, it may have been this:
1. You need 3+ QB's to play 4 preseason games
2. Was he an upgrade over our then current #3 (probably)
3. Were the Pats worried about the sideshow (no)
4. Does a #3 QB normally make our roster (no)
5. Did he do enough to make the roster (no)
Guys name just happened to be Tebow.

Only half kidding.
I'm out $30 as I bought mine from china. I'm still wearing it when the Pats play at Atlanta. Mainly because the plan all along was to drive Falcon/UGA fans crazy and point out Tebow has as many playoff wins as Matt Ryan.mt8thsw9th said:My favorite part is the Tebow fanatics who are out $100 after buying a replica Tebow jersey. I disagree. BB was shopping Mallett for a 2n rounder prior to the draft and had Tebow shown the ability to be a capable backup he would have made the team while lessening their demands for Mallett who certainly could fetch a 3rd.SeoulSoxFan said:
But for a team that rarely carries a 3rd QB, Tebow was competing -- in part -- with other positional players who are ST contributors. I don't agree that he wasn't competing with anyone else for a spot.
This makes too much sense for Buffalo. Tebow doesnt take anyone's starting job, Tuel certainly can't complain, while helping the Bills prep and have a chance to shove one up BB's ass in the process. I doubt this would get the Bills a win but it would be fun and I'm kinda hoping for it.axx said:Funny, Mike Rodak over at ESPN Boston makes the case for the Bills taking a look at Tebow. Would they pick up Tebow and play him (instead of Tuel) until Manuel is better? Kolb's concussion really screwed things up for them.

One thing nobody is talking about is how out of shape Tebow reported to came in which hampered him in avoiding pressure. Combine an inaccurate arm, not being in shape, and unable to retain the playbook.....well it's no surprise he isn't on the 53.

One, I heard it multiple times leading up to draft on NFL Network and something in print.Dogman2 said:
Do you have a link to either of these assertions?

Two, he was a fat waddler who no longer had the quickness to avoid a rush.....you need a link for that?

I'll be sure to post a link to my observation that a player has lost the quickness he once had next time......as well as searching through hours of NFL Network telecast.Shelterdog said:
If you want to be taking seriously, yeah, you do need links.
A bunch of sources said Tebow was more like 235 than the 250 he played at last year. I also think he looked thinner but to each his own.

His problem with avoiding the rush wasn't athletic ability, it was a combination of (1) being confused as hell by what was going on downfield, (2) having crap pocket presence, and (3) playing behind some shitty lines.
Tebow dealt with the speed of the game fine when he was with the Broncos and in much better physical shape when he was quicker. The Jets wanted him to gain weight....why I have no idea they are the Jets. He was slower and more immobile than his Denver days I'm kinda shocked people are debating this.Ralphwiggum said:I think it would be pretty big news if Tebow showed up in camp out of shape. He's supposed to be the hardest working guy in show business isn't he?
Plus when has Belichick ever tolerated a guy being out of shape during camp and continued to reward the guy with reps in practice and in pre-season games? He didn't look out of shape to me. As I and others have noted in this thread a few times, it looked more to me like a guy who could not deal with the speed of the game around him.

Dogman, I was going by what I heard on NFL Network.....certainly Belichick isn't going to hold a press conference to announce we are shopping a backup QB.

I think people like making Tebow out to his media portrayal......great work ethic (slower than 2 yrs ago), smart (below avg Wunderlic score), and a thinking mans quarterback (history of not being able to retain the playbook)......instead of the reality of what he really is.

A simple search I'm sure will show Tebows low Wunderlic score and his problems with retaining plays......I can't cite what I evaluate from what i see on Tebow's loss of quickness.Kenny F'ing Powers said:

I'm at a boring production and on my cell so unable (lazy) to search from phone without wanting to throw it.
Ok I did a search on Tebow's weight.....here are the following headlines.Kenny F said:
So, here's my problem.
You say that he came into camp fat and out of shape. There are no reports out there that say that, but there are two cited by Shelterdog that say he came into camp 15 pounds lighter than last year.
You then say that he was too out of shape to avoid the rush because of the bulk added in NYJ (with no source), and he was able to avoid the rush fine in Denver. That's not true either. He was sacked 33 times on only 271 attempts. That's basically once every 8 pass attempts, worst in the league by nearly two pass attempts. He never had the ability to maneuver as a pocket passer. Peyton Manning behind nearly the same offensive line finished 31st in sacks in the NFL last year. It's obviously not fair to compare one of the best QB's ever to Tebow, but it does illustrate that if he was even average as a passer, he wouldn't have finished with the worst sack rate for a QB.
I'm not trying to pick on you, I just don't see any evidence to support your claims other than "he looked like shit when I watched him". The obvious conclusion is that he's always looked like shit, you just noticed it while he was in a Pats uniform.
I actually like Tebow a lot. I think he's probably a great guy and I have no doubt that he genuinely really tries hard at playing QB. I have zero hate for him.Montana Fan said:Laddie, I'm 100% with you on Tebow's ability but my goodness, do you hate the guy or what? Is there anyone else in sports who you have this much disdain for? Other than Eli of course. Your singular hate for Tebow might equal the rest of the planet's dislike of A-Rod.

Yes, you'd love to have a beer and milkshake with him as the two of you watch the Pats together. Say no more. My sentiments, too.

So we have to cut you, and you can see of anyone takes you up in it. If so, good for you. If not, think about that tight-end/fullback/ST role we mentioned, and we can talk later in the season'
Just speculating on a dying ember here.

I think there's an easier answer. They thought he had some value as a developmental QB (he just turned 26) who could do some nifty trick plays here and there. He proved himself to be so singularly inept at Qbing-an experienced NFL Qb shouldn't be totally befuddled by third string defenses--that they had to write him off as a developmental QB. Once you've decided he's not worth developing as a QB there's minimal value in what's left (personal punt protecting, some read-option and pistol, maybe some h-back stuff although would he really be better than Sudfeld)
EDIT: In the beating a dead horse category Tebow was listed at 245 as a college senior (http://www.gatorzone.com/football/bios.php?year=2009&player_id=93) and weighted in at 236 at the NFL combine (http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/tim--tebow?id=497135) so the idea that he was a lot heavier this year at 235-238 than he used to be is, well, not so accurate.
