Fleshing out my bullpen, another lefty, and another guy who could be used to start in a pinch.

Also would like Johan Santana moved to BP (hey, maybe he can at least offer some pitching tips or something), and John Lannan (I guess) moved to the SP5 slot.

PMed Farvin.

Thanks Sumner. Just wanted to make sure with Farvin up next.
He hasn't officially dropped out but he's been on since he was last skipped and hasn't made up that pick, so I don't know. Someone should PM, let him know that he has a pick that needs to be made and go from there

Packing for vacation at the moment so putting this up here quickly.

The Nightmare select Brad Brach, RP

Basically for two reasons:

1)  He strikes a lot of people out
2)  His name sounds like me trying to say "Bad Back" with a mouthful of saltines and no water.

Also, I will be traveling Thurs-Mon so I will look when I can but feel free to go past me if it gets past a few (call it 6) hours and you havent heard from me.  I will make the pick when I get back if that happens.

Another guy I was thinking of taking last time I was up.

I guess a lot of our lists are getting pretty close now that we're this far.

So, I guess we give Alt his allotted time?

So uh... huge sample size and all against some really good competition but my first two picks (Tulo and Yu) are looking pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty good.

Still upset at you about Yu. After Weaver and Cain had been picked earlier, I was planning on taking him with my 2nd round pick, and he almost fell to me, but you grabbed him the pick before me.
So, instead I'm left with an injured shortstop (granted he'll be back in a bit, but nonetheless), and you have the guy 8 innings into something special (EDIT: Well, 8 2/3 of something special. Ah well).

I'll take his performance any day of the week. Like I said when I drafted him I think he will be a Cy Young winner before all is said and done. I've been bullish on him since before the Rangers signed him. Yes, it was the Astros but dominance is dominance. Fangraphs had an article before he signed that said his numbers were so good that their projections for him were too low to be taken seriously (fip in the low 2's). I can't wait to see him pitch this year in person with my son. I'll post the pictures to this thread too.

I know people are getting antsy, but AFAIK there's no rule for unofficially dropping out.

If he gets skipped again then he goes on auto-skip, but the rules give you 2 chances, don't they?  We'll be done in a couple or few days no matter what, no reason to get draconian now.

Harper has a 1.142 wOBA and is on pace for 324 home runs.  Zobrist has a .792 wOBA and is on pace for 162.  They have combined for .5 fWAR already and are on pace to be worth ~81 fWAR on the season together.

I think that means I'm a lock for at least 140 wins in my first season.

Suck it.

OK, getting to the end here. I had settled on Brach last night, only to have him picked 5 minutes later. That left me reshuffling a list of about 5 pitchers this morning. I really could just throw a dart to pick any one of them; they all have a hole in their repertoire somewhere. The ones who throw strikes give up way too much contact. The guys with gas walk too many or are homer-prone, and so on. That's the nature of round 24, I guess. There's an older RP or two out there that could still help me, but I'll go with the younger guy and hope he gets better, The Master Batters select Jared Hughes, RP. He's an extreme ground-ball pitcher who improved his control and started striking guys out at a decent clip (7.4 per 9 in second half) toward the end of last year. Let's hope the trend continues.

Sydney PMd, but since it's after midnight there, and he said to skip him if it was late in his time zone, I also PMd Scuba.

Since LaHair is in Japan, I still need a current power option off the bench. I'll take

Shelley Duncan, bench

who can play OF, 1B, and DH. He can take a walk and hit a home run and that's all I care about.

I'm on mobile, so could somebody please PM Best Catch? Thanks!

I'm in no rush. We can give it a few hours for BC100Y and Syd to catch some ZZZZZ's and I'll pick at a reasonable hour this evening if they haven't appeared. And maybe Jed will check in, see this post and plan his evening accordingly, so we can PM rlrooter and have everyone on deck for tomorrow.

Alright, I'm able to pick tonight also. Rooter still hasn't made his last two picks, I think he's busy at work or moving.

Was a highly-regarded prospect once upon a time, still only 28 years old, and coming off a pretty nice year in AAA. Anyway, I don't think he's a total shit sandwich and given the fact that Perez is coming off a bit of an injury I didn't want to end up with one backing him up.

I'm not likely to have internet access this weekend. I'll try to scratch together a proxy list (who's going to be available?), but feel free to skip me if it doesn't end up coming together. Just pm'd soxfan.

22 year old MI prospect for the Tigers who appeared in two games with the big club after being called up from A ball. Yup, this kid doesn't even have a single AA at-bat yet. He has great speed and baserunning awareness, he's a contact hitter and a plus fielder at 2B and SS, some scouts say he could easily manage 3B as well. I think he fits perfectly as a back up infielder with versatility and a ton of upside. He's smart has good instincts and has shown leadership skills as well. His only downside at the moment is that he doesn't hit for power but for a 22 yr old kid with a lean build if he can add a little bulk without affecting his speed, I could end up with another diamond in the rough on my bench.

Almost done...

Surely a product of when this draft started, how rosters were filled, and how things have changed over ST... but, there are some very curious guys that remain undrafted.

If they had no plate appearances in the majors before this year and were not on the exceptions list then we can't draft them if that is what you were thinking.

Now pinch hitting for Manny Mota....

JULIO BORBON (CF)...Borbon.

When you have a chance to use a Naked Gun reference AND draft a speedy backup CF and pinch runner who cannot hit....you gotta do it.

Jed will be PM'ed.

I am so disappointed that post didn't end with "Let's go get the early bird special with our senior citizen discounts!".

Solid pick at this point. He should only have 3 or 4 more great seasons in him. Better living through chemistry.

Fuck it. It's the 24th round and I've been looking at this guy for forever. I know he had (literally) one of the worst seasons EVER when he was called up but Brett Jackson didn't exactly light the world and he got taken in the 10th round. His defense is pretty shitty too, from all the scouting reports I've read. Still he's only 23 and according to BA scouting report he does better in his second stint at a level so maybe he won't suck when he gets to the majors. Anyway, with my fingers crossed and my hopes high the San Diego Schweddy Balls select BP Josh Vitters

Here's hoping he makes me just as happy

EDIT:pM'd dylan and scoops. I guess Rooter is still cool with being skipped because he still hasn't made his last two picks

He sucks?

EDIT:Seriously though, I have no clue. He had a decent season in AAA last year and only seemed to make the Majors this season because he's out of options.

Spent last year in Oklahoma City where he proved he can't hit. But he can run, he can play defense (sort of) and he did make the Rangers OD roster.

But yeah...Mak's right. He just kinda sucks.

I believe I'm 3 picks behind. I'd also like to add that you have "Sam Lecure" listed as "Sam Leclure", which pisses me off because I WANTED TO PICK HIM.

So, my three picks are...

Brad Lincoln, RP, TOR

Put together a good year in the majors last year, throwing up nearly 10K/inning (9.51) and a decent ERA (2.80) with a relatively equal xFIP (3.17). It's really his first good year pitching in...well, forever. Here's hoping he found the magic at 27 years old.

Darren Oliver, RP, TOR

Old man Oliver. Dude just doesn't age. Still very good against lefties, put up a 2.06 ERA last year (3.56 xFIP), and can come out of the pen in long relief, as a situational lefty, or just as a normal old fashioned reliever. He'll retire soon enough, but for now? Still got it.

Denis Phipps, OF, CIN

27 years old, only a quick cup of coffee at the MLB level. In 2 seasons of AAA ball, put up a respectable .270/.334/.454 slash. He's got some decent power, and had a good spring this past year. Let's see what happens!

I was actually wondering if Darren Oliver was going to get picked. I honestly think he will outproduce a decent number of the RPs taken ahead of him, the dude just keeps performing well even in his early-mid 40's.

BTW, as we get deeper into the draft, I'm convinced that unless you really wanted a young, proven bullpen, Soxfan was right, you could wait to 20-25 and get a decent group of guys to go out there.

Oliver was literally thinking about retiring this off-season, he wanted more money to come back this season. In the end he's going to be pitching for the Jays but I can understand why he fell so far

1. Oliver was lined up to be my last pick. #2 on that list is still available, as is #4. I love the story about Oliver telling Anthopolous that he wanted to play in 2013 but Mrs. Oliver did not, so Antholopolous went to dinner at the Oliver's shortly after pulling off the Reyes-Johnson-Buerhle deal and told Mrs. Oliver that the team was really, really serious about winning one for Darren. He got to sign the contract a few days later. And he'll almost certainly be retired next season.

2. Mitchell Boggs, bitches.

Dammnit Scoops, I was considering Strop for my last pick... Egh, oh well. I'm probably better off anyway. Didn't really like him.

I agree with Mak, 121. Boggs really was a steal this late.

See, now I think you guys are saying that because he's now in line to earn some overrated stats instead of admiring his actual abilities. He's no better this week because he's the closer than he was last week when he was the 8th inning guy. It's one of the most fascinating psychological effects of "fantasy" baseball - that certain players are elevated based on role, not talent.

Truthfully, the full extent of my research on relievers was to get the 3 year hold totals, check it for age disqualification (hence, why Oliver was off list till the final round) and then cross off anyone with a poor K/BB ratio. That's it. Mujica, Boggs and Boone Logan were on that list.

Saves suck and the prominence of the stat has done more damage to baseball than good. In general, statistical awareness and invention has deepened the game of baseball and provided lots and lots of answers. But the save stat is just awful. I hate Tony LaRussa and his ass face.
