What? I thought that last week, just as much as I did this week. Dude had an ERA ~2 last season, his FIP & xFIP were under 4, a GB/FB ratio near 2 etc etc. It was a good pick because it was a good pick, not because he's going to be a closer with Motte out

Honestly, I didn't even realize he was their closer until you pointed it out just now

Ditto. I didn't even know Motte was hurt.

Edit: Geez, way to take a compliment. On second thought, the fact that he's 29 and mainly a FB SL pitcher with his SL throw rate increasing probably means he'll blow out his elbow. It's a terrible pick.

(Just busting your balls. He was a good pick)

The Varmint Cong select Miguel Gonzalez, BP.  I need another starter with Kelly TJ'ed and Hughes on the DL.  Once they come back, he becomes a swingman.  I need somebody that can soak up a lot of innings and not suck.

Sorry guys, but work got a bit busy.

My first pick is a backup catcher.  I'm going all glove as this guy simply has no bat.  I'll have to hope that my theoretical farm system produces a theoretical backup soon.  in the mean time, this guy won't kill me on both sides of the game.  Not much (read: any) upside here, but that's what you get when you wait until the 24th round to draft your back up catcher.

Bobby Wilson, C Bench.

He's a Yankee and it looks like he's taking some lessons on the best ways to maximize your douche from Joba.

My next pick is a reliever.  I decided to grab another guy who could get lefties out considerably, and while this guy is old and will probably be dead before we do this draft again, he's been really good at suppressing left handed hitting throughout his career.  And his name reminds me of the word choad.

Randy Choate RP

Plus, the guy can pitch with a dislocated elbow while pregnant.  I need a bit of toughness on my roster.

No he's not. He's Andrew's next absentee pick.

The question is who are the next-worst "last picks" we can give to the dropouts. Nominations?

It's always been 25 rounds as far as I knew.  The extra spots were to allow some flexibility for how you filled out your 25.

I'm down to my last pick and I need a utility IF that can theoretically cover all three IF positions other than 1B.  The guy I am picking is a glove-first guy with a decent enough OPS that he totally won't kill me at the plate.

With their last pick of the draft, the Varmint Cong select Nick P... BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  DId you really think I was picking Punto?  I'm leaving him for KFP.

Actually, we select Juan Diaz, BP.  His decent OPS is power driven instead of OBP driven, but beggars can't be choosers at this point and I like the glove (and so does Cleveland).

Besides, he kinda looks a little like a young Manny Ramirez with the pose.

Wells went in round 19.  Marmol in round 23.  Lyle Overbay and Chris Stewart still available for those really into yesterday's powerful Yankee lineup.

I will say though, I wish we could steal picks from guys who dropped out. There's more than a few guys on Andrew's team I'd love to have including a couple Scoops picked for him

No, no, no. The point of this exercise was to draft 30 teams and then see how those teams fare, by whatever measure you choose. Plundering dropouts would taint the exercise.

Look, the dropout suck but Scoops did EXACTLY the right thing drafting for them reasonably and fairly. It maintains integrity, something he clearly has an excess of and something in desperate need with an exercise like this one.

And having just looked at my roster, I seem not to have drafted enough pitching. Looks like a 3 man rotation and 4 relievers...which would be fine if this was a post season series. Between injuries and the Rays being the the Rays, I'm targeting an innings glutton next. Is Livan Hernandez still kicking around somewhere?  What about Old Hoss Radbourne? If Jimmy Rollins can play 2b and Nyjer Morgan can play in Japan, I can draft Livan no matter where he's playing. How about Uggie Urbina? Is he still pitching in the Venezuelan Penal League?

Tommy Layne, RP, SD

No clue who this guy is but he had a 26 game stint with the Padres last season and averaged 89.5 MPH on his 4-seamer.  Oh, and he's another lefty in the 'pen.

I wondered where he would go. I've been talking to a few people about him. His projected stats sucked but he sure was an interesting LOOGY last year.

I think there's a rule somewhere that says that the adjective "crafty" absolutely must be used when describing a lefty who can't break 90 with his fastball. So that's "Tommy Layne, crafty LH RP".

Holy crap I did a lot of research for this pick and I still don't feel 100% comfortable but it's the last round, there are NO safe bets left. The guy I'm choosing is someone you probably never heard of, whether it be because you don't follow the Padres or don't give a shit about guys who barely crack Top 30 prospects lists. As a RHP, he held lefties to a wOBA under .300 last season (SSS warning). If that continues though, I may have a sneaky good reliever here. Yeah, my SP depth BLOWS but I like my BP quite a bit with this pick. BA likes his chances of hitting his ceiling (of a middle reliever or set up man) and I like that he's young (24 YO), has at least 1 plus pitch (a curveball) and a pretty great MiL walk rate.

The San Diego Schweddy Balls select RP Miles Mikolas

Also, I was talking to Snod about it but if I have some free time when this is over, I can take our rosters and recreate them on MLB the Show.

From there I can either run a Franchise sim or post them in the Roster Vault for anyone to download who wants to play with their team.

There are some obvious flaws but we can talk about it if people are interested in this

MLB the show?

I've been planning to do this with OOTP 14 once it's out in a week.

Might be interesting to see it done in both systems.  Both will have the flaw of uneven farm systems which will have an impact on the results, but nothing would be perfect, so it's not really that big a deal.

Anyway, I don't know if the talk about a minor league draft, limited or no, was serious, but with the way interest has waned in this thing, I'm guessing that wouldn't go too well.  Might want to ask people to chime in before setting it up as we might see a lot more GM's drift off to the gamethreads or strip club or something.
