He's already signed to a minor league contract, and a new deal would still include the opt-out in June. So they'd be releasing and re-signing to save $100K. I have to think a move like that would probably result in Quintero telling them to shove it and seeking employment elsewhere. There's no reason to cheap out on $100K that doesn't count against the major league payroll anyway.
