NY has a completely rested Cordero, Wandy and Holmes tonight, plus an off day tomorrow.

Also Matt Krook is almost certainly going back to Scranton tomorrow for Kahnle and has not yet made his MLB debut so getting him in tonight would be nice, he is a slow throwing lefty with huge strikeout numbers.

Two straight nice inning-ending plays by Gleyber! Kirby looks incredible but Clarke has matched him so far. Rodon is in the dugout tonight, this will be his spot at some point.

And now NY's first hit, big game from Gleyber here.

Look to steal? Kirby is so tough, be aggressive even with Judge up.

I would try to steal under the new rules so much more often if I made NY's decisions.

Incredible play by DJ on J-Rod, the stop and then the impossible throw that was somehow on target and just a touch late, holding him to a single.

Although he just stole second anyway...

Wow Bucknor interfering with Higgy on the SB attempt, he has an exceptional range of suck.

Damn! Sick catch by Crawford, dunno if Higgy actually scores if it gets through though.

I think that's right, it took Kay a few looks to figure it out but the dirt covered a bit of the chalk on impact, I think it was barely foul.

Schmidt comes back and gets him, 82 pitches now.

Be very careful with J-Rod, please.

Teams scoring zero runs have still never won a baseball game, weak top of the 10th after the gift error from Crawford.

I wanted to be mad, but Kirby was awesome and so it goes.

Schmidt was good too. Not bad the previous two starts either.

I know they're both lefties and showing signs of life, but one of Bauers or Calhoun needs to go so Peraza can come up. And he needs to play regularly when that happens.

I get that Volpe is going to be a star and he needs ABs and innings in the field to get better, but I don't think he is showing so much offensively or defensively right now that he deserves to be in the lineup at SS every day.

Yeah.

Maybe he'll hit around .200 with flashes of wonderfulness too, but at least the defense will be better.

Rizzo, Stanton, and Donaldson all back in the lineup tonight, hitting 3/4/5 against Kershaw.

Donaldson and Stanton have hit HRs so far tonight. That's promising. At least something good is coming out of this shitshow.

Two on, two out, and Gleyber hits a ground ball to 3rd that gets bobbled. He's a bit slow getting out of the box and is an easy out at 1st.

Would Gleyber have made it if he was busting it down the line? Maybe not. But it sure would have been nice to at least have a chance to get the bases loaded for Judge when they're down five runs.

Can confirm what's said in the booth. When Sarah talks, people listen. She's got such a kind, kind way about her, but you know you'll hear something neat. Just an incredible human.

My Sarah story was teaching her my personal, atypical tip about how to categorize given data quickly. Went out of her way to email me back as thanks for the method, she was really thankful. Never had to do that, but went above and beyond. Feels that's a microcosm of her as a person.

Yeah I have rarely seen so much universal love as for her on Baseball Twitter today.

I am just starting to watch this and Peraza would have made the play on Will Smith, third batter of the game. Then it is 1-0, two outs, no one on, and who knows. So glad he continues to be in AAA where he can really help.

IMO the only thing keeping NY from flipping Volpe and Peraza and letting Volpe try to get back in a groove in AAA is this new CBA rule, NY still holding out for the possibility of an extra first round pick if Volpe stays up the entire season and wins Rookie of the Year. They really need to flip when NY is back home after this weekend IMO.

Putting Volpe out there every day when he's struggling and pressing so hard doesn't just hurt the team, I'm worried it could snowball and crush his spirit. Screw up the mental side of the game for him.

I'd rather see the Yankees keep Volpe up but reduce his playing time. I know he needs ABs and he'd get more of them at AAA, but I think he'd still get in the game every day as a PR and playing three games a week or so would slow things down and give him time in between games to work on things with the staff.

And then if he shows signs of breaking out, sure, increase his playing time.

Give Peraza half those starts at SS and see what he looks like. Additional time as a late inning defensive replacement will help keep him engaged too. I know finding enough ABs for Volpe, Peraza and DJ will be tough with Stanton spending most of his time at DH, but Peraza (and Volpe) can do more to help the team than Willie Calhoun.

I think it's okay if Donaldson, Stanton, DJ and Gleyber all get a little more time off than Boone's typical rest schedule.

Peraza and Volpe both should be playing every day, in MLB or AAA, both need the developmental ABs.
