The two announcers alongside Cone are awful though, Karl Ravech just called DJ as versatile an infielder as you will find. Uh, Karl, he cannot play SS, the guy literally playing SS tonight (Cabrera) actually has played all four IF positions competently, IKF I'm sure could also if they asked him to. So in reality DJ is probably the third most versatile IF currently on the Yankee roster, but close, Karl.

Those offensive stats would be more believable if he had chosen 1927.

Jasson is up to .210 at Somerset. Yes, his OBP is great and he’s still only 20. This is a valuable season for Jasson’s growth.

Hitting seems to be an issue for Yankee prospects like Volpe and Cabrera.

"Anthony Rizzo, DJ LeMahieu, Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson in the #Yankees' last homestand with Aaron Judge on IL:

6-for-66 (.091)"

DJ is the one I'm most worried about. Not sure what's going on there. His strikeout percentage has suddenly doubled from the last couple of seasons and the walk rate is down a bit. From the old fashioned "eye test" it does seem like he is missing a lot more pitches that he used to foul off.

I still love DJ. Love him. But he needs to figure that out. If he's lost bat speed or something and for whatever reason just can't get it back, he's a much different player.

I feel like most of the time I chime in here it's to complain about a terrible ump. This guy is absolutely awful.

Nice win. We complain whenever he's scary, so Clay deserves some love when he does stuff like that.

I liked Boone leaving Severino in there even though it didn’t work, he looked a lot better his final two innings.

Then NY used six relievers to get 13 outs with an off day yesterday and again Thursday:

4.1 2 0 0 1 4

Apparently as a team they are under .300 OBP.

There are so many holes that I don't know how to fix it other than crossing your fingers and hoping people hit better.

Judge’s injury has made this an entirely unwatchable team in June. The supporting cast is just not good.

It doesn't help that they consistently misuse the personnel they do have, Peraza and Florial rotting away in AAA when both would at a minimum instantly improve the defense.

Do YES ratings figure in personnel decisions? Seems so dumb a question to ask but my cynical side says Volpe would have helped ratings, being a Jersey guy and all that, while Peraza is just another good Latino player who doesn’t yet impact ratings.
You can’t explain Volpe not being farmed out tomorrow. He has lost the strike zone, chasing pitches he took in April.

Mickey Mantle got farmed out on July 13 of his rookie 1951 season when he was hitting .260 with a .763 OPS. But he was totally frustrated by big league pitching. Went to Kansas City and hit .360 for a month. Came back with a better sense of himself. Volpe is no Mick but he needs to get out of his torture chamber.

I mean, they didn’t use Peraza down the stretch last year either when Volpe wasn’t yet a factor and Peraza was the clear best option. It’s really frustrating as a fan.

I do believe it has come time to hang Cashman from a building in Stamford and bring in an outsider with a fresh perspective.

They hyped Volpe too much to start the season. Even Hal got into the act later and was basically saying that they would be patient and the kid would stay up. Which is a great vote of confidence for a young player, but if the results aren't totally there, it's tough.

Of course there are other guys not playing up to standard too. I wonder if some of the more cerebral veterans are having a tougher time adjusting to the pitch clock. And maybe why Gleyber is doing ok, since I'm not sure he thinks much at the plate at all. :)

Jokes aside, it's touch to watch these guys right now. Judge, Bader and Peraza could cure a lot of ills.

Nestor and Rodon too, of course. Assuming they come back strong.

A lot of baling wire and duct tape being used right now.

The last time NY got swept in a doubleheader with so few hits and runs was July 1970.

What would I do? Make these moves before the Tuesday game:

DFA Donaldson and Calhoun
Send down Volpe
Add Bader, Peraza and Florial

Huge defensive upgrade there, and the offense couldn't possibly be worse.
