Whoa these kids even have Gleyber playing better on D, he knows he needs to pick it up to stick around.

I have not watched much lately but definitely seeing tonight why Volpe's DRS numbers are so good, three very strong plays in the last few innings.

If NY ends up with a top six draft pick after the lottery, their pick is not moved back ten spots as it will be otherwise because of going through the third salary tax line. This is what the Mets have been trying to do since the deadline and what the Yankees now seem to be moving towards at least having a chance of.

The last time NY lost 9 games in a row, I was in 11th grade.

I am still behind but all three Yankee OFs just had assists throwing out guys at second (Pereira's via Volpe) within I think 4-5 batters, definitely have never seen that before. Baseball!
“ the first game where three different Yankees had an outfield assist since June 19, 1987 in Boston (Ron Kittle, Mike Easler and Dave Winfield).”

HR factoring in percentage of working toes pushes it up to 3 1/3 (3 divided by 10/9). :)

Boone’s already talking about missing his kids going off to college. I would not be surprised if he walks away from the rebuild. Makes it easy for his bosses, too. That’s the kind of person Aaron Boone is.

Assuming the Yankees need a new manager for 2024, do they have any internal candidates? Shelley Duncan is the Scranton manager. Working in his favor, he has seen most of the prospects come through his dugout.

This is sort of like 1966 when the Yankees finished last with 70 wins. Boston edged them by one-half game for ninth place.

LeMahieu returning to the land of the living would be a welcome development going forward, he has good numbers for the last month or two.

LeMahieu with only two Yankee hits today.

Jasson wasting some hits in Scranton. Hitting .450 with 9 hits in 20 AB.

OPS up to 1.072, they should give him a few weeks up this season as they have to add him to the 40 man after the year anyway.
Shelley Duncan keeps talking about the energy Dominguez brings to his new teammates. Winning acceptance from AAA players is not a given.
Scranton is playing Jasson in CF with Florial in left. Have the Yankees found another switch-hitting CF?

Gleyber misjudges a pop fly with two outs and bases loaded in sixth. Ball eludes his late leap. He’ll blame the roof, as Bader did yesterday.

On the pop fly that tied the game, Rays hitter Ramirez barely got his bat on two low and away sliders. Then he got another, six inches off the plate, and flicked it into short right. Hamilton did his job. He made a great pitch. Gleyber is a bit young to be playing like an old man.

Another big game for Jasson. 3-for-4, triple, 2 RBI. Now batting .478 and his OPS is in the stars. Did everything just fall together for Dominguez this summer, in his 20th year?

Judge went 0-for-12 in Tampa. He‘s gotta be hurting. Why play him now? Ticket sales?

Stanton told the press yesterday that his season has sucked. Boone sat him and his shitty attitude down today. And then he said he thinks Dominguez is close to ready and perhaps should get his bats up here. Boone made it sound like the baseball ops people will make that decision. Always the good soldier.

Yanks are rebuilding now.

Arozarena got under the Yankees’ skin today by testing their throwing skills. After singling to open bottom of the first, he waited for one out and then stole second base. Higgy’s throw went into CF where Bader threw the ball past Peraza, allowing Arozarena to score. In the eighth, Abreu came inside and caught Randy flush in the ribs. Both benches came on the field. Nothing happened.

edit: Yanks lead the season HBP battle over Tampa, 12-2. Rays talked afterwards about not risking suspensions against a last-place team.

@ktsharp

If Oswald Peraza (23 yrs old), Everson Pereira (22), Anthony Volpe (22) and Jasson Dominguez (20) all start together in a game this weekend, it will be 1st time the Yankees have 4 position players age 23 or younger in same starting lineup since Sept. 18, 1969

Judge, Peraza and Bader all sitting to start today’s day game, Bader’s brief run in pinstripes will probably be done after today.

Injured Bader for Monty was a head-scratcher from the start.
I mean, I think they lose the ALDS without him last year, but his offense just cratered this year. He had a 1.262 OPS in the postseason last year, 5 HRs in 9 games.

Bader claimed by Reds! Worthy of a game thread mention. Saw your input on his stats against RHP. The man hit a lot of ground balls, too.

Gleyber's poor D was in the middle of the 2nd and 3rd runs scoring for DET earlier also.

Tough to blame that play on Gleyber. Johnny L. made a horrible throw considering the ball was hit right to him.
Very true. Sloppy baseball is often more than just one guy. Gleyber is a lightning rod for bad defense but this team has made a ton of really awful errors this year. Holmes is almost always good for one.

The 2023 Yankees Epitaph might read: Never saw a game they couldn’t lose.

What’s your lineup tomorrow, JA? My lineup would begin with Jasson. Even against Verlander.
It won't be close to this order, but something like:

Volpe SS
Judge RF
Gleyber 2B
Dominguez CF
LeMahieu 1B
Stanton DH
Wells C
Pereira LF
Peraza 3B
