I'd rather see bullpen games in the fifth starter slot for the rest of the season. Bullpen games that don't include Severino. Dump him and bring up the next guy. If that guy is a SP, try him out as the long man on those days.

This offense is the absolute dumbest I've ever seen. Bases loaded, no outs. Watch strike three right down the middle and then a second pitch double play.

Just bring the damn kids up.

Not checking this, but evidently NY has 14 Ks looking with RISP in this 3 game series. Way to fight, men!

Season is over but there is still some housecleaning to finish. Watching Judge’s bombs remains fun. Volpe can put a ribbon on his rookie season by finishing strong. His 3-run homer in second inning on Friday night was a good start.

The pressure is off now from a team standpoint. Stanton should shine now that nothing matters. Yankees have to get Rizzo and DJ on track, if that is possible. Torres, on a one-year deal, is improving his value with a solid season. Hitting .331 over last 30 games, .880 OPS.

Maris followed his 61* season with 33 dingers in 1962. Judge should be in that neighborhood by season’s end. He will always be judged by 62.

I will check in on the Yankees every night but football season looms.

NY going with their third straight opener today, Michael King ahead of Jhony Brito.

Stanton comes up as the tying run in the 9th, takes two strikes, swings at the third pitch which is out of the zone. Sit down and have a better plan next time.

Jeter must be laughing at how he pulled one over on Cashman. There was no love lost between them over the years.

It’s over. Burger lines one down the LF line off Kahnle.

Boone’s eternal optimism may be strained by this defeat.

Why not just walk Burger to set up a force out with 1 out in a tie game?
"Asked Aaron Boone if he considered walking Jake Burger to load the bases in the ninth, making an inning-ending double play an option: "No. No. Not to bring the walk in play with Soler coming up next. So no." "

Why didn't Kahnle come in the batter before, when it was clear Holmes didn't have it?
Didn’t see a second of this but I’m sure he wasn’t warming so quickly, who would expect they’d need him? FWIW Holmes hadn’t blown a game in three months, but that’s the way cursed teams work. They figure out a way to lose.

Cashman Free Agent Pitching Curse?
Seems like it.

So many FA arms that haven't worked out because of poor performance or injury or both.

Kind of amazing how good overall results have been despite that. Especially in the bullpen. Though certainly not today.

Yes, they rushed him up after Holmes booted the comebacker from Bell. It was a reaction play and Holmes is not exactly Mariano Rivera with the glove.

Yanks haven’t finished under .500 since 1992 but this bunch could sink below .500 and stay there. Is it time to give the young pitching prospects a chance?

Vasquez and Brito are in the rotation currently, Severino will presumably be bumped after ATL obliterates him tomorrow, assuming Rodon is ready to come back. Not sure who’s next after that, Beeter is the only possibility among guys who they need to add to the 40 man.

But Pereira could be up soon, I think a few more days and NY adds a year of control, but maybe in a week or so.

Setting aside innings limits, why not give Thorpe, Hampton and Fitts spot starts in September?

Because none of them need to be protected this winter, so unless NY really thinks they’re ready to compete for rotation spots next March, they shouldn’t be on the 40 man yet. Hampton and Thorpe were both just in high A pretty recently.

Yes, let’s stretch out Michael King and try to “Joba” him, or more recently, “Whitlock” him, between starting and relieving.

I don't think it's one or the other, but not thinking King should be stretched out doesn't mean that 2022 draft picks should be jumped three levels (they have already jumped one) to MLB. Fitts is ahead of those other two, he has spent the whole season in AA and should at least get promoted to AAA soon.

Bringing up an inexperienced pitcher from AA ball or lower has been done many times. I don’t see the harm in a spot start, unless that means you automatically must protect that pitcher, or pitchers, on the 40-man. I don’t know the rules well enough. But with five weeks of meaningless games ahead, why not take a look? The way Yankee pitchers are going down, they may have to dig deeper than Scranton by next month.

Yes it does, once someone goes on the 40 man, they can’t be removed without being exposed to waiver claims from any other team.

So if NY just told Severino before the next game that they were leaving him in for 100 pitches no matter what, what is the over/under on runs he'd allow?

ATL has 51 scored in their last 5 games, I am going to put the over/under at 14. The worst SP in any MLB rotation currently against one of the hottest lineups we have ever seen. I don't watch much Yankees in recent weeks but I think this might be appointment viewing, especially if NY doesn't make a roster move to bolster the pen behind him after 5 2/3 tonight from Hamilton and Abreu and they really do leave Severino in to take even more of a beating than usual.

Also, what is NY's fascination with Albert Abreu? Does he have incriminating pix of Cashman? He has been on the 26 man literally the entire season, Cashman really hates DFAing guys and it blocks guys with higher upside behind. Yes, he has incredible stuff but it is not consistent enough, they should try to do better in that spot.

I can’t watch the blowouts. Which means Seve gets about one inning from me each night. Hello, Everybody Loves Raymond re-runs!

Heh, we are big fans of this show also, we just saw the one where Robert dates a very young girl, she is 22 and he is 35. Except that at the end they learn they are both lying and she is 19 and he is 43, very funny scene in the restaurant.
