"Gleyber Torres has grounded into 6 double plays in the last 6 games. That's the most GIDPs by a Yankee in any 6-game span in team history"-Katie Sharp

Man, I hope someone knocks off ATL before NY has to play them in the World Series, tough matchup.

It’s the most easily fixable one though.
How do they fix the organizational approach to hitting? That love for the home run paid dividends until MLB took the juice out of baseball. Have the Yankees responded yet? We see Volpe come up from the minors, swinging from his ass. Dominguez is second in the Eastern League in strikeouts. Where are the on-base batters who hit to all fields? Why the high chase rate among veteran hitters? Charlie Morton made Judge and Stanton look foolish with his sweeper last night.

What is the lowest number of RBIs to lead a team in a single season? I find it stunning that the Yankees leader on Aug. 18 has 49 and that it is Gleyber Torres, who so many fans wanted to trade.

And who they should have traded, one more year left before he signs a contract he won’t live up to while Peraza wastes away in AAA.

“The Yankees have allowed 84 runs in the first inning this season, most in the American League.”

2 runs scored in their last 32 innings, this is the worst Yankee team in 30+ years.

Nothing says you are trying to shake things up and break a long losing streak than starting the immortal Greg Allen.

Might as well bring Willie Calhoun back.

None of the Yankees will admit to it but the playoffs are gone. Now the players work on their stats. Management practices speaking in platitudes. Fans turn to football. The world keeps spinning.

Ben Rortvedt is now hitting .098. Stanton at .199. Phil Rizzuto would have been leaving the broadcast booth in the second inning on these bums.

On the bright side, NY did not make a single out today with RISP.

On the downside, that was because they had no ABs with RISP.

This was the first Yankee game in a long long time that I was home for and never even bothered to check what channel it was on, let alone turn it on.

Even some of Girardi’s more mediocre teams played hard to the end. Boone has lost these guys. Were they even worth saving?

There is so so so much dead weight, there are probably at least three guys on there that no one here knows are actually on there.

Matt Bowman (?)
Spencer Howard (???)
Anthony Misiewicz (?????)

Plus Peraza (3 for 5 today including a HR and a 3B) and Pereira are already on the 40 man, they don't even need spots!

Peraza: 3-5, HR, 2 RBI, 3B, 3 R
Wells: 2-6, HR, 3 RBI, 2B, R
Pereira: 2-4, 2 HR, 2 RBI, BB, 3 R

Since June 27, NY has played 15 series. They break down as follows:

2-0 against OAK and KC (worst two teams in MLB)
0-2 against COL and CWS (3rd and 4th worst teams in MLB)
0-8 against everyone else

(3 split, 2 4 games and 1 2 game)

They have played like a bottom 5 team in MLB for almost a full two months, and if anything are somehow getting worse. If we don't see at least Pereira up after tomorrow, time to riot.

The comments Volpe made the other day about the team lacking energy and not having fun might suggest a problem with the overall culture in the clubhouse. That might be more damaging to Boone‘s chances of returning than the win-loss record.

Agree. Casey Stengel used to say he had five enemies in the Clubhouse and five supporters. Everyone else was neutral. And his teams were winning the World Series every October, or so it seemed. Losing makes it all worse. Be interesting to see if Donaldson returns from the 60-day list after his 21-day injury. Highly doubtful.

I wonder how bad they have to be before Boone gets fired?

Also, the decision not to sell at the deadline looks even more insane now.
They should have bought at the deadline, surrounded Judge with more talent. Maybe a LF, maybe a C, maybe a 3B, maybe some P. Team looks flat.

There were reports that Cashman had some deals in place to move guys but Hal vetoed doing it, presumably in part because not much would be coming back but also to not look like they were giving up. They have talent internally they should be going to, for whatever reason they are still mostly holding off on that, the anti-Angels. They could go to this any time they wanted:

Dominguez CF/LF
Judge RF
Wells C
Torres 2B
Stanton DH
Pereira LF/CF
LeMahieu 1B
Volpe SS
Peraza 3B

That is calling up four new guys, all of whom have to be on the 40 man after the season anyway, 2 of the 4 are already. That is what should happen for their next game on Tuesday, also much less pressure on any one of those guys if they all come up together. If Wells can't catch in MLB, let's find that out, or start playing him somewhere else.

Pereira and Peraza in the lineup tonight at LF and 3B, hitting 7th and 8th respectively.

Interestingly NY still only has one lefty in the lineup against a RH starter, and that is #9 hitter Ben Rortvedt. Also interestingly, the Scranton lineup tonight has five lefties and two switch-hitters, so maybe some help for this ongoing issue will be on the way eventually.

I am still behind but all three Yankee OFs just had assists throwing out guys at second (Pereira's via Volpe) within I think 4-5 batters, definitely have never seen that before. Baseball!
