Dennis did make a reference to drug addicts at a radio station this morning, but he was referring to the people at WAAF.  He had a stack of CDs from the "drug addicts at the station down the hall" and they were going to go through them and make fun of the names.  Admittedly, I didn't listen long enough to catch the segment where they did just that, so maybe there was further reference to other stations.  But I know that they were specifically referring to AAF jocks when I heard it.

It sounds like you understood the reference and I didn't.  He didn't name names.

Fred and Rich's throw-away conversations are funnier than anything on any competitor.  They came back from break with the B's highlight-and-drunk-guys montage at one point this morning, underscored by the Deftones, and after it was over, the bumper music kicked in, and it was "Hold on Loosely".

Rich: Talk about a drop-off in intensity.  From the Deftones to .38 Special.
Fred: Hey, come on now, the soundtrack to 'Revenge of the Nerds 2' wasn't gonna write itself.

This segued into a quick discussion of how taping immature movies off HBO was once the only way to see racy stuff as a kid.  And then, on to the next.  The comic instincts and chemistry between those guys is just fantastic.

That us pretty much why they're must listen radio for me when I'm driving. I get enough if a kick from these and other parts for sports that I appreciate their ability to basically have a legitimately funny, unlike 90% of the other FM shows out there, show with a basic fallback premise of sports. Now that's not everyone's cup of tea but it is literally right in my wheelhouse.

I'm terrified to find out the bridge gunner operates is in Danvers or Beverly. I'm going to take alternate routes around any that move for now on.

Wow I was in tears driving down the highway with that Gunner audition. IMO their show has been fantastic during this Bruins run, I don't think there is another show in town that is close.

I truly believe that Rich is the genius behind this operation and Fred would be just another radio hack without him.

They need each other. If Fred isn't in and Rich has the top chair, the show sorta sucks

Fred's humor/alpha presence and Rich's production are IMO equally important.  Everybody else is a foil - Wallach the nerd, Crash the party guy, Adolfo the screwup, Mike Behind the Mike, the weirdo, etc.  What's kind of cool is that if they're both together, T&R can make anybody in that third spot into something worth listening to - at least in the context of the show.

I still think Wallach gets WAYYY to much air time.

Its almost like you can tell he is so excited to be there and have a voice, like the cool kids invited him to a party, he doesn't know how to act, so he just sort of goes overboard sometimes.

I know a lot of people don't like when Adolfo is on the air, which is fair, but whenever they call his dad, it is pure radio gold. I am dying here.

Billy Jaffe was on with T&R this morning.  Fred talked about how Bickell was being billed as some huge physical force on the ice.  I think he was trying to expose Felger who talked about Bickell as "Milan Lucic on steroids" all the days leading up to the SCF.  Jaffe said whoever said that was wrong and that Bickell models his game after Dustin Penner and that Bickell doesn't make you fear him like Lucic does.  Fred called Bickell, "Captain Wristshot".

"Sports Debate: The Movie" is fantastic. You should stop what you're doing and listen to it right now.

It's at the end of "Rich Goes to the Movies".

That "movie trailer" was awesome.  However, I don't agree that Minihane got "his ass kicked" by Tanguay, which is apparently what spurned this whole thing from Fred to begin with.  I'm on Minihane's side on that one.  Tanguay was embarrassing.

D&C need to learn to stop picking fights with T&R.  They're not going to win.

Fred's wittier than all of them, and Rich is a production genius.  Plus, they're getting killed in the ratings, so it always comes off as a desperate attempt for attention.

It makes EEI look really bad.

The best part for me was mentioning that Minihane follows T&R on Twitter.

That clip is everything I love about this show.

What is the "rumors" they keep referring to? The end of D&C?

Fred's rant yesterday at the end of What's in your Stack? was fantastic. #sportsdebate.

Stern absolutely torched D+C a few days ago. I love that he didn't actually mention them by name. Didn't want to give them anymore listeners.

Good stuff.

I really liked the raps today. What started this whole thing between Zo and Wiggy?

The end of Zolak's rap cracked me up when he was talking in his Wiggy voice. YEAH YEAH LETS GO TO SANTARPIOS THEN GO CURE CANCER.

I did find it funny they were talking about the Sports Survey that came out yesterday that had Tony Mazz as the most liked Boston sports radio personality and Rich said something along the lines "But if you read certain message boards around here you'd think Tony Mazz was the devil and couldn't do anything right". Wonder where he was talking about?

I thought Zo and Wallach's rap was hilarious.  Especially the Wiggy voice at the end, as you mentioned.

The other statement is pointless.  Popular does not equal good.  Unless you think Glee is the greatest compilation of musical talent ever assembled, or that the first Britney Spears album is better than anything Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Prince, U2, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, REM, Queen, et al. ever put out.

Popular may not mean "good" to you but to most people he is good enough.

Also, the other statement is not pointless as far as Mazz and his future on TSH is concerned.  F&M (and all the other shows) aren't and never will be engineered to appeal to the posters on this board but to the greater masses because most folks don't spend a few hours a day on sports related message boards.  While Mazz may suck to many of us he is obviously much more popular to most other folks and thats all that matters as far as ratings are concerned.

I'd be interested to see how the question was worded regarding "popularity" because by comparison to Felger, Mazz (and most humans with a pulse) seems pretty "likeable".  I think his "hot sports takes" are crap but I wouldn't mind having a beer with the guy.

I'm not arguing with you on that, I think the "certain message board thinks he's awful" point is sort of a useless dig.  The numbers indicate he is popular, which is what's important to the station.  It doesn't indicate that we're all wrong in saying that he's not "good" though.

I mean, I've heard their Nickelback bits where they show how much they suck.  But still, Nickelback sells records.  Isn't that exactly the same thing as we're doing here?

Excellent point on Nickleback---perhaps we stop saying Mazz sucks and instead say 'he is the NIckleback of sports discussion'

Haggerty and Wallach both fail their reading comprehension tests this morning.

Neither remembers a mention of a (non-existent) strip club in Southie in the Rolling Stone article on Aaron Hernandez.

Borges is on with T& R (Haggs today). I'm slightly better than 1/2 listening while at work but Borges was just asked about the "Aaron was one misstep away from being cut" bit... Did he just basically admit that he made it up?  From what i heard it sounded like he said "well, in the past they've been tough on guys so it's not that much of a leap to think they would have cut him."  Was there any other context to it?

Ok, and now Fred asks him about the 3 blunts on the way home. Borges says "well he wasn't by himself".

Borges apparently doesn't understand that you can't use "He'd" to represent 3-4 people in a car.

He’d get high all the time driving away from games, say friends of the family, “smoking three or four blunts” in the ride back to his place.

It's not Borges' fault. Blame whoever he plagiarized the story from.

I'm glad Colvin is back this year. He's a great interview.

Monday's should be solid football talk on T&R now with Flynn in from 7-8 and Boomer at 8:20

Nope. I think that Boomer liked Dennis and Callahan, I don't think that he'd rip them or rag on them. Nor do I think T&R will bring them up.

They've got to mention the CBS Sports Minute at some point don't they? I'm guessing they won't do it in the first one and wait until they get a get relationship with the guy but it's got to come eventually.

They did say a few times "Now that he's on Team T&R, listen to Boomer!" and other things introducing the bit. They seem actually excited they have him now rather than something they have to do.

Knowing Fred, it'll be the first topic. Nothing really bad, but done in an icebreaker way.
