I love that Fred was at home and Hardy shamed him for the first 30 min of the show to come in.

Edit: Wallach is driving me nuts lately. Hardy refers to Dan O'Brien as DOB, once he starts doing that, Wallach starts calling him DOB after not doing it once in 15 years. He's the loser trying to sit at the cool kids table.

It really didn't translate that well on radio, but watching Hardy react at 7am to the Barthtender segment was awesome on Twitch

Turned on the show right before 7:00 during the Wachusset Mountain ad to hear Wallach and Fred drooling over Kendra. "You're a woman, not a girl." Unlistenable today.

Kendra actually had to beg to talk about sports before a commercial break. Brutal radio.

I love the spot promoting the night time show. I can imagine the marketing meeting about that. "Ummm, what's something interesting we can say about Joe Murray?" "Well, he has two first names." "SOLD!"

No kidding. They should go with "Proud owner of scalebreakers.com." It's something, at least.

Kendra is fine and hangs in there. She's got takes, and Fred is trying to "school her". I don't agree with some of her rationale, but the takes aren't awful or wildly contrarian. However, Fred's attempts to put her in her place and demonstrate his "knowledge" make him look horrible. He gets to the limits of his sports knowledge very quickly. She's having none of it (good for her). He comes across awfully.

I thought it was funny that when they were speculating about who was going to be the new co-host, that Kendra asked Fred who he would like to see. He reflexively said, "Either you (Kendra) or Hardy" and passed over Wallach in a nanosecond without a comment. I could feel Wallach squirm through the radio.

I do actually agree with Zolak's "salad" take re Hardy; I think Hardy has become a little too sour and hot-takey over the past few years. Fred's got that space covered. Rich brought a certain optimism and fun to the show that balanced Fred's antagonism and neurosis. Adding more sarcasm isn't going to help, let's put it that way. But Hardy's probably the best they've got so he's the odds-on favorite to succeed Rich.

The new show is going to be very, very different from T&R. Which is a bummer.

I actually thought Wallach was worse than Fred in trying to "school her". Like, see, I know way more than her, why is she under consideration for the second chair and not me?

Wallach came off as pretty condescending. I thought Fred's advice was more well-meaning. He and Kendra do seem to be settling into a more comfortable rapport, but I guess if you already feel a certain way about Fred your opinion's not likely to change much.

The Eagle stinks and he's getting worse. No way around that.

I actually had a little bit of a commute today so I listened to the show for a bit and it wasn't great. The one part that I heard was Kendra telling Fred "A guy has to be 5'10" to date me but a woman can be any size". And it was like alarms went off. I mean, this is Howard Stern from 1994 stuff. It was just so boring.

I heard Kendra on Murray's show a week or two ago and she sounded pretty good. She seemed to know a lot about college football and I had no idea that this was the person from the morning show (it was the first time that I had heard her). If Fred is reading, maybe let her talk sports and keep the horny grandpa act in the closet. It's really played out.

Agreed. It definitely has a Stern vibe to it. (Full disclosure: I was admittedly a long time Stern fan until the show ceased to be regularly funny anymore. But I don’t tune into 98.5 for Stern Light.)

Although I have to give Kendra credit: she’s not shy about anything and is willing to engage Fred on this stuff. But she seems to have a lot more to offer than responding to Fred’s cringe tendencies.

I was a huge Stern guy on terrestrial radio too. But he's moved on from his days during the 90s and I think that most of us have too.

Probably around 7:15-7:20, I think.

Fred spent a little while talking about it, the old "Ohhh ho ho, you never told me that." And Wallach was starting to get a boner. It's not that I was offended or felt bad for Kendra (she brought it up) but this has been done to death. It was boring.

Let me be clearer... I enjoy Kendra's appearances and she can talk about anything she wants. None of what she says weirds me out.

What I don't enjoy is the leering vibe from the middle aged dudes on the show. Honestly I'd rather Fred just channel his inner wannabe-Stern and ask her explicitly about her sex life. Being coy about it is uncomfortable.
I was wrong. Fred being explicit about it is just as lousy radio.

Kendra’s great. When they’re just taking sports, or general hijinx, the show is fun.

I agree, in small doses.

Have a bit where she comes in for an hour a week (and not with that turd Lifshitz) But I think 20 hours of her would be bad

Fred starts off the Bankroll Bunch segment bragging about how he spent an hour and forty minutes on the phone with Mike Gorman yesterday who said he loves Kendra and that Fred now has a partner who is a 'puncher, not a counterpuncher.' Say Gorman did really say that, why does he have to keep giving Rich digs like that?

Because Fred is realizing that Rich was the brains of the operation. If anything has become clear during this purgatory period, it's that Fred is in over his head if he has to be the creative force and architect of the show. That and I don't think he thinks he needs a co-host. Fred is looking for a #2 and wants any kind of affirmation he can get, real or imagined.

Rich definitely kept the show structured. At the same time, that structure made the show sound repetitive for years. Even though what’s on now isn’t gonna be the show in 2024, it’s sure is hell a lot more entertaining than Armpits of America or Fart Court, which were happening more and more often week after week. It sucks Rich left the show, but if it’s Hardy in the 2nd chair, the morning show is gonna be juuust fine!

And something like that wont go away. It just won’t be multiple times a week. Probably under a different name too.

Rich’s shoehorned phoners will be something I’ll never miss though.
Exactly it’s Keefer Madness etc. it’s the same thing. I’m thinking back and I can’t remember one new but since Brookline 911. The show did get repetitive and I listen all the time. I don’t know if the new show will be great or suck but it’ll be different. I feel like we’re crossing threads with the Belichick thread.

Say what you want about this round of fill-ins, everyday there's been something throughout the show will end up making me laugh. During the time that it was Rich, Rj, Wallach while Fred was out with the throat? Boring unfunny radio. Just sports sports sports all the time. I hope the new show has a lot more than just people arguing about football

Obviously lots of speculation about who will be on the “new” show with Fred but any thoughts on when an announcement might come?
Fred has said multiple times that the show will start on 1/4. Will they make a formal announcement next week, before Fred leaves for the rest of the year, or will they announce it during the dead week between Christmas and New Years?

Soooo, the Gas & Go bit was funny when they first did it. But it’s a sketch. It was made by actors. Doing it again without pointing that out is pretty dumb.

Like, if Fred knows it’s a sketch, then it’s no better than him passing off an SNL sketch as real. If he doesn’t know…. ahchie machie.

They had no idea the first time they did it. Someone definitely told them or they looked it up after that. To be fair to Fred, Rich found it and the first time he heard it was on the air, so he wouldn't have known.

What Patriots writer/announcer called in today maybe around 730-8? I was getting kids ready so I wasn't paying attention but he really went at Wallach for stepping all over the conversation. Like outwardly admonishing him for his line of questions

Wallach didn’t do anything he doesn’t usually do. Which in this case was using a guest’s comment to jump off into his I’m-aghast-at-that-possibility persona.

Apparently Sochi didn’t have the patience for it this morning. Clearly this Pats season is wearing on everyone!

I suck at the internet so sorry for no link from my phone, but Fred's IG says there will be a big announcement at 9am tomorrow.

@Chad Finn any clue what this is?

I thought Lockhart found it, so I just relistened to the original podcast it was on and Rich introduces it as: "Now, this is something that Mike Lockhart came across. And, matter of fact, he insisted that I not take a look at. So, I love it when this happens. So, we're all going in blind on this, ok?"

I remembered being unimpressed that Lockhart either couldn't tell it was a sketch, or that he maybe thought they should start doing reactions to fake stuff.

Not sure. His website says he's in hiding, where before I thought it said news coming soon. Not really sure what that means if anything.

Does anyone think the current contract has to officially run out before he can appear on EEI despite effectively quitting?

I believe it was reported and confirmed that he chose not to sign his contract.
I don't read that as quitting though? He just elected not to extend. To me, quitting is refusing to show up to work. I'm guessing after he decided not to extend, the company told him to stay home.

Pretty sure that’s what happened. Didn’t want a lame duck host for another month. Only bad things could happen for Rich or Beasley. It would have been nice to give him a last show though.

Agreed. However, the corporate folks are a collection of scumbags based on how they've treated the show for years now.
