Pats had to draw the line somewhere I suppose.  in Bill I trust, but I'm surprised they didn't match $40MM.  Maybe there were other aspects of the deal that they couldn't/ wouldn't match, such as non-guaranteed money in year 1 that would surely be paid.

where is it that it was 40MM?  no numbers have been released and this is pure speculation.

I'd probably be really pissed off about this if the Super Bowl had ended differently. But it ended with the Patriots hoisting Lombardi number 4 and that makes this far less painful. We got him to help win a championship and that's what happened. This doesn't change that.

I think the combination of the Jets overpaying Revis plus his return to NYC as a hero leading GG back to a possible return to glory outweighs the uncertainty of a new GM and coach, the certainty of Butthead Johnson, and the possibility of adding another ring with BB and Brady.

Don't think this is all that crazy to be honest. 5 years is a bit excessive for a 30 year old corner, but 14m per year and 39 million guaranteed seems like pretty fair value. Very disappointing.

Not really seeing that. Most of us seem to be on the side of economics and not blaming Revis for being a mercenary in the NFL.
 
We got the ultimate prize out of having him with us. Would have been nice to try for a second ring with him, but the Patriots move on as always.

re: tampering. Maybe the jets took a calculated risk that the penalty won't be a 1st rounder? That would really be the only "crippling" penalty. Anything else could be considered a small price to pay to insure they got their guy back
