Okay, so how much does this leave for Quintana? Do we know? And what's going on with Dalbec?
Updated for Groome at $3.75mm

Spent to date..: $6,045,000
Red Sox Cap....: $6,997,400
Red Sox Cap +5%: $7,347,270

Dalbec slot $0.501mm (assume $500k)
Shawaryn slot $0.376mm (assume $500k)

Leaves $300k to apply to Quintana or other Round 11+ picks (not including $100k "free" from cap)

Sorry if I am out of the loop, but why are people excited for Quintana and Dalbec?
http://www.soxprospects.com/dh.htm

Each was a highly touted prospect in their own right- top 100 or so depending on the ranking. If you click on the link, each player has a brief write up.

Edit- No write up for Quintana but you can see where the pre-draft rankings had him as a late 2nd through maybe 4th round talent.

Dalbec has 80 raw power but had a miserable year, he was awesome on the Cape last summer. Quintana has one of the most explosive bats in HS ball, huge power this summer playing in a college wood bat league, slide due to not being a true middle infielder.

Dalbec has big-time power but he strikes out a lot. He was projected to be a fringe first rounder before the season. Some scouts think a new coaching staff messed up his swing. If (big if) he can get his swing back to where it was a year ago, he could be a steal. If hitting doesn't work out, he can also hit mid-90s on the mound.

Quintana was another potential first-to-third rounder and top-100 ranked. He's nominally a SS with a very solid power bat. Likely moves to another position (2B, 3B, C). He actually has worked out behind the plate. He has been to Fenway and had a physical and reportedly wants to go pro. Not sure that $400k will be enough, though.

I'll be "that guy." Callis and Mayo haven't tweeted about Groome signing. No offense to SoxStats, but where is this confirmation coming from?

This is really helpful, thanks.

As for whether the deal is done, it sounds as though they've agreed as to money. Waiting on the physical?

My son played summer ball with Quintana two summers ago...so that's my hook. You never felt out of a game when down by one or two runs if he was due up in the bottom half of the last inning.

Not sure if it matters, but Dalbec is at Arizona and Quintana is committed there...guess the Arizona coach is paying a little attention to the Red Sox today.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer
Red Sox first-round pick Jason Groome on questions about his makeup that caused the 17-year-old lefty from New Jersey to fall out of the top-10 to 12th overall: "At times it just gets me so frustrated because these people never even met me and they're saying all these negative things. Once they meet me, they say how great of a person I am and just a great young man."

Awesome. I am pretty goddamn excited about this kid. Prospects will break your heart and all, but it's fun to follow.

Or he could be overcompensating due to a bunch of people making negative comments about him. 17-year olds aren't exactly known for taking things in stride.

It's fun to joke about it i guess, and I assume the Red Sox have thoroughly vetted everything, but after John Denny, Drake Britton, Cody Kukuk, and 1.5 million signee Chris Acosta now on the suspended list already over the past few years I would think they took any whispers of this kid cutting corners pretty seriously.

Is that really something people worry about? He might have had a beer or two in the past too. Heavens to Betsy.
It's different because you can be suspended or banned for pot, right? Or has that changed? It's dumb, but as far as I know it's still a real world consideration until MLB grows up.

Whether or not it remains an issue to be concerned about, as long as there are 50-game suspensions in place for second offenses there are reasons to make sure players don't fail tests
