Must be all star selection. Just take Lester, although the defending WS manager usually takes some of his own that might not make it if another manager were selecting. Ah, take Pedey and Ortiz, as well as Lester. It's an exhibition game; fans want to see the long time stars. Uehara?SoxLegacy said:I'm sorry, but can someone decipher what Gammon's is getting at? That makes more sense. My bad..Red(s)HawksFan said:There's already a thread in the media section about Gammons' butt tweets. Let's keep them there.
The first one is clearly about all star selections. It's not like the Sox would dream of trading Pedroia, Ortiz, or Napoli right now.
The second could very well be a response to a text or DM that Gammo tweeted publicly instead of directly.
He is a free agent in 2018, I would think even with a drop in playing time, STL would still ask for a lot (given he has put up good offensive numbers since he was called up)Hee Sox Choi said:
Seems ripe for the pickin':
Allen Craig is out of the Cardinals' lineup for the second straight game Friday.
Craig started the first game since Oscar Taveras' promotion but has now been benched for the last two. As suspected, he's in for a big drop in playing time.

Honestly, Doubront seems to crave a change of scenery. Maybe it's time to oblige him. The ceiling isn't all that high for him.bosockboy said:It'll take another prospect or eating some Peavy cash....the Cards also might be more interested in Doubront.
Looks like a completely laid back guy. What's San Diego got? I know the theme is trading with contenders, but is there a contender that would want the guy?mfried said:Honestly, Doubront seems to crave a change of scenery. Maybe it's time to oblige him. The ceiling isn't all that high for him.
That's not even remotely true. I've read over and over again that the Blue Jays (just an example) would rather give up lesser assets to acquire a rental like Jason Hammel rather than giving up multiple top tier prospects for Shark or Price.Danny_Darwin said:No team will give up anything of value for Peavy or Doubront as long as Lester remains unsigned for next year, and (assuming no extension in the next three weeks) he's probably not going anywhere until Price gets moved somewhere. If you've got assets, why not use them for the superior pitcher?

I'm not disagreeing, I'm just pointing out that teams will acquire a lesser player because it costs less to acquire said player.Danny_Darwin said:
The team has essentially hung a "FOR SALE" sign on Peavy's neck for the last several weeks, yet he remains in town. I have to think that if they could get anything for him - much less an actual good MLB player like Allen Craig (recently good, anyway) - he'd be gone by now.

Maybe stop trying to be the first person to post every single tweet on here and take a second (at least) and think about what you post. Does it really add anything to discussion or is it just nonsense? Last time I checked there is no award for quickest to post tweets on here.soxhop411 said:he tweeted that after tweeting about the Sox, (the tweet posted before) Im guessing they are some what related
STL seems to be the only team other then ATL that could have an interest in Peavy or Felix... Both have had multiple pitching injuries. Other then those two, I can't think of a team that would have any interest in either of them.bankshot1 said:IMO we're just entering the seller/buyer market going into the trade deadline. Post-season wannbe teams are sorting out who may be available and who may fit their needs, and what they have to trade. If for example the MFY decided they need a 1 or 2 (with CC likely gone for the year) to compete for the ALE they are going to be looking at a different subset (eg Cliff Lee, Price or Lester-those would be interesting negotiations) than the Cards who may want to add a 4 or a 5. (Peavy or Doubront)
Wait a couple weeks demand for a guy who can pitch 6 innings may develop and from unexpected teams. Shit happens, for example the MFY were expecting CC to start in August. Now they don't.soxhop411 said:STL seems to be the only team other then ATL that could have an interest in Peavy or Felix... Both have had pitching injuries. The Red Sox have been receiving decent trade interest in recent days in third baseman Will Middlebrooks, who's on injury rehab following his slow start in Boston. But while he looks like a logical trade candidate who may benefit from a change of scenery, Red Sox people are said to seem quite reluctant to deal Middlebrooks.
There could be two reasons for this. The first one is fairly obvious. Middlebrooks, only 25, has big power and it isn't easy to come by power bats in baseball these days.
The other possible reason involves a bit more supposition. Middlebrooks, if he can show something in the second half, could be seen as a possible piece in case Boston tries to make a run at Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton.
While it would obviously take much, much more than Middlebrooks to form any semblance of a trade offer for Stanton -- Middlebrooks was batting .197 when he went out with an injured finger; he's currently at Triple-A Pawtucket on rehab assignment -- the Marlins are thought to have had some interest in Middlebrooks at some point last winter.
Stanton would be a perfect fit for the Red Sox, who badly need better production from their outfield. Putting Middlebrooks aside, they also have among the best collection of prospects in baseball, in addition to a glut of young infielders, putting them in good position on the chance the Marlins entertain trades for Stanton in wintertime.
If he can look like the guy who posted an .835 OPS in his rookie season, that scenario might not be quite as far-fetched as it seems.
My thoughts exactly. They brought Mookie up to play the OF, and while he's been less than impressive out there so far, the X situation is more stark, and Holt can get back to playing a position his background has prepared him for. Or Mookie and Brock take turns, as Mookie would probably appreciate a chance to play an infield position.geoduck no quahog said:Holt will do fine while Bogaerts rehabilitates his swing.
Why would he prefer an infield position? Betts played SS, CF, and 2B in that order in high school. He then played SS for two weeks of rookie ball or so, moved to 2B, played there exclusively for about 1.5 seasons until he started taking time in the OF and shooting up to the big club.InsideTheParker said:My thoughts exactly. eat ALL of Peavy's cash...if we are in SELL mode and we don't plan on adding players/salary we should be eating ALL the salary and spending every last penny of the 2014 budget for the better prospect...this is one of the few times where "I don't care about the ownership making money" theory comes into playbosockboy said:It'll take another prospect or eating some Peavy cash....the Cards also might be more interested in Doubront.

Soriano at the league minimum is a no brainer for a team that was running out Nava, Sizemore, Gomes etc out in LF.BosRedSox5 said:Brandon McCarthy just got traded to the Yankees for Vidal Nuno. I think Peavy is probably a decent comp to McCarthy in trade value... and Nuno is kind of interesting. On the face of it, he's not all that special. He was a minor league free agent that the Yankees picked up in 2011 who seems like sort of a late bloomer. He's really struggled for the Yankees in 2014, but in 5 starts, he just killed AAA hitters in 2013. 25 IP, 14 H, 30 K and 2 walks. He's left handed, 26 (turning 27 at the end of the month) and pretty successful in AA too.
It's kind of starting to see like the most we could expect for Peavy is someone similarly "interesting". Someone who's got a few kinks to work out but hopefully might put it all together.
Also, FWIW the Yankees dropped Soriano today, let's get him... Only partly joking about picking him up.
No, it's not.Tyrone Biggums said:Soriano at the league minimum is a no brainer for a team that was running out Nava, Sizemore, Gomes etc out in LF.
How would it hurt? Worst case the guy doesn't out perform Gomes and you cut him after 2 weeks. This team should be looking at every available outfielder to see if they can get lightning in a bottle.MakMan44 said:No, it's not.
There is a greater chance of him costing the Red Sox wins than helping them win while he'd be here. He's been below average, per wRC+, against both LHP and RHP. At least Gomes has crushed LHP this season.Tyrone Biggums said:How would it hurt? Worst case the guy doesn't out perform Gomes and you cut him after 2 weeks. Not only all of this, but who is losing his roster spot to acquire Soriano? Do you think he would outperform Betts? I don't. You can't just DFA Gomes and hope Soriano outperforms him, because if he doesn't, then you're out Hacksaw. Picking up the Yankees crappy scraps is no answer to the Red Sox' woes.MakMan44 said:There is a greater chance of him costing the Red Sox wins than helping them win while he'd be here. Absolutely not. NO interest in seeing him in RF at Fenway. He'd possibly be a cheap option if Papi were to go down, but even then I'm not sure I'd want him.BosRedSox5 said:Just last season Soriano hit 34 homers, including 17 during a really strong stretch run for the Yankees. I would never put him in right but this is exactly the reason why adding him if he clears waivers wouldn't be a terrible move. I'm not worried about it costing the Sox wins. The current outfield configuration is doing that just fine on their own.BosRedSox5 said:Just last season Soriano hit 34 homers, including 17 during a really strong stretch run for the Yankees.
