I wasn't surprised. Teams want coverage safeties these days and he's almost like a linebacker. The early mocks had him high but as the draftniks have gotten more info he's slipped. I thought he'd be a good fit for Indy at 29.( . ) ( . ) and (_!_) said:Who is the biggest surprise dropping out of the first round?
Gotta be Landon Collins, right? No injury or off field red flags, was considered the top safety for most of the draft build up and the safety position is not super deep in the NFL.
What do you think about the Dorsett pick? Matt Williamson suggested he might be Hilton plan b.Super Nomario said:I wasn't surprised. He of the less than 4 YPC? I understand that the STL line wasn't very good but he was absolutely atrocious last year.JBJ_HOF said:I wonder if we trade a mid-round pick for Zac Stacy. Would do in a heartbeat.
But he is a player on another team that might be available and that people have heard about! By the laws of talking about football on the internet we have to talk about him becoming a patriot. He is name that people recognize goddamn it!JohnnyK said:He of the less than 4 YPC? I understand that the STL line wasn't very good but he was absolutely atrocious last year.
Why do they need a Hilton plan B? Hilton is 25.MarcSullivaFan said:What do you think about the Dorsett pick? Matt Williamson suggested he might be Hilton plan b.
I think the premise is that they may not be able to afford Hilton after extending Luck. That seems nutty to me, especially given the amount of money they've been spending in old farts in free agency.Super Nomario said:Why do they need a Hilton plan B? Hilton is 25.

As someone else suggested, may also want to move it to the draft sub forum.singaporesoxfan said:Put "No Spoilers" in the thread title please

They should pass on #96, jump in using #97 and then go back to #96, just to screw around with the league.RGREELEY33 said:So Patriots with 3 picks tomorrow:
64. (Round 2)
96. (Round 3)
97. (Round 3 Compensatory)
They will then have Pick 101 on Saturday to kick things off near the top of the 4th round.
Thanks, but just keeping this thread clean is all I ask. I'm happy to blind myself in this man cave with the other unwashed and unenlightened.BigJimEd said:As someone else suggested, may also want to move it to the draft sub forum.
How do you even begin to wrap your arms around this to the point of getting comfortable. If you are right, he's a great value. If you're wrong, he or somebody at his request blew away a pregnant ex-girlfriend when she answered the door at her apartment. That's Carruth territory. What if he's a charmer like someone else the team thought it knew?Yaz4Ever said:Would love to see the Pats grab La'el Collins while his stock is low. From what I've read, he's a pretty clean cut kid and not considered a suspect. I know nothing else about him, but he'd be a steal at 64 based on talent alone.

Indeed, I found it all very amusing. I couldn't watch on tv so I was following along on Twitter and bouncing back here. I think that ended up being more entertaining then if I could have watched on tv as usual.dcmissle said:Thanks, but just keeping this thread clean is all I ask. As inconsiderate as it was at the time, it was funny in retrospect seeing the twitterverse light itself on fire in CNN/Reddit fashion over the trade that never was.

If the cost is only a 4th round pick or later and the potential for some bad PR, then I'd be totally on board. If he gets arrested, you cut him and move on. The cost of cutting a guy drafted that low in the draft is not significant, the upside is obvious. I just want to watch the Patriots win football games, this guy can help that happen and if he is a monster they can remove him from the team and move on.

Nope. Not getting out of the boat. Sports is an entertainment business and my interest in watching my favorite team pick Collins roughly equates to my interest in seeing the latest Mel Gibson movies.

They have Moncrief, Johnson, Fleener, Allen, Duron Carter, even without Hilton. Why are the Colts drafting 5'9 speedy WR insurance in the first round? There aren't enough balls to go around, at least one of those guys will be wasted in that offense. Better hope they luck into a flu-ridden team in the AFCCG and a Grossman caliber QB in the SB eventually, because this is the Manning strategy on steroids, and that didn't put many rings on Irsay's fingers.

You have absolutely no idea if he did anything wrong. What if he's innocent?
dcmissle said:At this point, he is not a huge steal. He had a first round grade. We're at the beginning of the second.
If you look at this without any regard for a possible PR hit, you have to discount his value very significantly because of the risk. I don't think we're in steal territory until late tonight, early tomorrow.

That's what I'm hoping for, and that's another reason to remain circumspect in here this evening. It may not be likely, but it's certainly possible. They don't play the hand they are dealt unless there is no other choice; they hunt guys.Morgan's Magic Snowplow said:It all depends on the team's grades on individual players but everything is in place for BB to get aggressive and move up today if a guy they really like is available in the 50s. Judging by past trades in the second round, that high 4th should be enough to jump 7-10 spots if the right trade partner is out there. Given that we have a couple areas of significant need, extra picks, and a fairly large roster, it seems like a logical scenario.
