I just hope that Abs learned a valuable lesson here.  Spelling mistakes have consequences.

This thread is frustrating. Each time, I click on it hoping for a fresh, juicy rumour.
Each time, I get a silly lyric from songs I don't even know. Yet, some way, somehow, I keep returning.
You're killing me. Bring back the Hot Stove (rumours)!

My bad.  Somehow I wandered into the Fleetwood Mac thread in the MLB forum by mistake.

Tulo and CarGo are in play.  Really tough call on them -- outstanding talents for whom the Rockies likely will demand a king's ransom, but they both have spotty injury histories and have huge contracts.

That's being generous re: Tulo

Games missed:
08: 61
09: 11
10: 40
11: 19
12: 115
13: 36
14: 71

The only full season he's played in the past 7 years was in 2009 and 2011 was close

Do you want to pay $118M over the next 6 years for a guy you can guarantee will miss atleast a month of the year?

I feel like they've been "in play" the last several years. Just spitballing, but maybe CarGo to Detroit or Seattle, Tulo to the Yankees?

I don't think the Yankees have the chips to land Tulo. At least, not yet. Their farm system is improving, but it's just not there yet. Too many other teams can trump them if Tulo is out there for a reasonable price. That said, I'm guessing the Rockies want major league ready or near ready young guys who look like they could be stars. From Boston that would mean one of Betts or Bogaerts as the center piece. Who do the Yankees have like that?

If I had to pick a landing spot for Tulo, I'd guess the Cubs. They have a few bats that could be redundant and could maybe build a package around a combination of Castro and Addison Russell with some ancillary pieces. Add Tulo to a lineup with Rizzo, Bryant, Baez and Soler and you have the makings of a top of the league offense. For the Rockies, they would have Castro under control until 2020 and Addison Russell is one of the top prospects in all the game, and could replace Tulo at short long term. Castro plays there in 2015 with Russell slated to take over in 2016 and bump Castro to second.

I don't see it.

Instead of spending a SS prospect and $118mm on Tulo, they can send that prospect (and a couple more) to the Phillies for Hamels, use the $118 (and some more) to sign Lester or Scherzer, and they are instantly the favorite in the NL Central.

Well, Hamels DOES cost you at least 96 million (4 years + buyout in '19), so the difference is you'd be saving 22 mil by getting Hamels instead of Tulo.

I would just go with Castro at SS and sign Scherzer and Lester and give Russell another year in the minors for seasoning.  Deal Castro next year.  I wouldn't trade prospects for Tulo nor Hamels for the right to pay those guys 20+ mil.  No thanks.  Just sign FAs that cost about the same and keep the farm.

J. D. Drew cares about this kind of discussion.

Can I add "and is generally healthy before the Postseason?"

MLB Radio hosts and analysts made their predictions on where the top 10 free agents might land.  Here are some notable predictions.

--Steve Phillips has the Red Sox signing James Shields and Panda, the Yankees signing Scherzer and Hanley Ramirez, Jon Lester to Cubs.

--Todd Hollandsworth has the Red Sox signing Scherzer and Hanley, the Cubs signing Lester and Russell Martin, James Shields to LAA, Panda to Seattle, and Tomas to Texas.

--Jim Duquette has the Red Sox signing none of the top 10.  He has Scherzer and Hanley to Yankees, Shields to LAA, and Victor Martinez to KC.

--Oddly, CJ Nitkowski has the Red Sox signing Melky Cabrera and Russell Martin.  Martin makes zero sense for the Sox.

--Brad Lidge has the Sox signing Scherzer.

--The majority of analysts has Nelson Cruz going back to Baltimore, Melky back to Toronto, and Yasmani Tomas to Philadelphia.  Also the majority thinks Lester will sign with the Cubs and Hanley to Yankees.

It's unbelievable that these two were GMs at one point, my mom could make better predictions than this.

Mets surrender #15 pick to sign Michael Cuddyer to 2-year deal

I don't think we'll see a worse signing this offseason. Giving up the #15 pick for Cuddyer is indefensible.

About 5 minutes ago on his High Heat show, Russo was talking about the Mets and said "forget about Cuddyer going there."

This is one of the problems with the marketplace. At times, it is just..stupid. How do you plan for somebody doing something stupid, for whatever reason? Isn't Alderson the great uncle of Moneyball or something? I mean, what kind of move is this?

That's just an awful, awful signing.

Unless this is just a prelude to a big signing, of a FA who also has a QO. Like a Lester or Nelson Cruz or something. If you're going to do this, you might as well go for it. The little nonsensical step before the big step that clarifies it all. Otherwise, yeah, seems quite silly.

Edit- Err..too slow.

I guess I could see them going after Hanley now, as currently constructed I don't know who else they would need from the QO list.

"The GM whose team has one three of the last five World Series once gave up a high draft pick to sign Michael Tucker, so we're on our way to greatness."  -- Mets, probably

Edit:  Fair point that Cuddyer will "only" cost a second-rounder if they sign another top FA, but I think it's still a pretty bad deal even if they're only giving up a second round pick.

He's the only guy who's remotely a fit from the QO list. Maybe the Mets saw the Yanks pretend Jeter was a SS for the past seven years so they think they can get away with the same thing?

It just doesn't make sense. I mean, Cuddyer played 49 games last year. Baffling.

I'm surprised he would take that deal over the QO, essentially betting that he wouldn't be able to get a 1 year deal for 5-6 mil next year.

Maybe he was worried about ending up not being signed, a la Drew and Morales and took the bird in hand
