I couldn't tell on the blurry feed, how much contact was there on Sterling on the penalty appeal?

Could have gone either way, imo.  What hurt him was it looked like if he fought for it he could have stayed up and got to the ball.

Why is your feed blurry, do you not have FS1?

He outran Mata, who's how much smaller and younger? You're right, that is hilarious.

The Guardian MBM had it as a clear penalty, FWIW.

Hilarious is him acting like he was shoulder'd off the ball, by Mata (who I love but is a midget)...or did he slip?

There was the shove in the back that might have had something to do with it.

So much for being big and hard.

Anyway, I'm over Chicharito.  Dude finds space better than most, but cannot hold the ball up and even I lol'd when he tried to shoot from outside the box.

Good. Get the second-stringers in before someone gets hurt.

Interesting to see Mignolet there in the last minute of the half. He wasn't going to distribute the ball until he had numbers.

SKRTELED!

Because what you're supposed to do when you have a world-class striker somewhere over you outside shoulder is watch the ball.

This has been another episode of SKRTELED!, starring Martin Skrtel.

Absolutely no chance that the 4th official did not sneak a peak at that replay before reversing the goal call.

Shameful. The integrity of the Guinness International Champions Cup is at stake.

Keep telling yourself that and eventually you'll believe it.

And actually, you won the Charity Shield last season. So it was a success, right?

It must have been a tough year for Zomp last year, having to contain all that United-ness within himself while everything went to shit.  It's pent up and ready to explode!

Backup keeper for Bayern and Neuer is probably the second most-boring job in the world, after Maytag repairman.

Tuttosport (in Italian, h/t to the BBC gossip page) reports that Liverpool has put in bid (18-23M) with PSG for Ezequiel Lavezzi.

He has experience as a cheerleader from his years on the Spanish national team.

With his wages, I thought getting someone to take him on a free transfer was going to be tough. Two million pounds (what I've seen reported) would be a bonus.

For Jay: Manquillo is a done deal and is in Liverpool today for his medical.  OK, after the Remy thing, it's not quite a done deal.  But the teams have agreed and wages are set.  And Estadio Deportivo reported yesterday that Moreno is back on.

So the BBC gossip page on Lavezzi referenced Tuttosport, which referenced the Independent, which had first mentioned Lavezzi and Liverpool on July 28 in a report that referenced the Daily Express.  Three Daily Express articles before July 28 mentioned Lavezzi and Liverpool, but none of them were sourced.

Looking forward to the friendly against Dortmund on Sunday.  Since Lovren was signed too late to get a visa for the US trip, this will be his first chance for some game action with the squad.  Games 2 and 3 of the season are at City and at Spurs, so hopefully he can get comfortable quickly.

If I have everything right, Rodgers has brought in:

R. Lambert- £4.5m
E. Can- £9.75m
L. Markovic- £19.8m
A. Lallana- £20m (can increase to £25m)
D. Lovren- £16m (can increase to £20m)
D. Origi- £6m (can increase to £9.8m) [On Loan to Lille]
J. Manquillo- 2 year loan from Atletico (LFC may have option to buy at £5m - which seems too low to me)

So, they have between £76m and £89m out the door, but the sales of Suarez and Reina offset £77m of that. Not too bad.

They still have added money from CL as well, and Rodgers is reportedly seeking another striker after Rémy fell through.

Looks like Coady is off to Huddersfield Town on a permanent

The fee for Coady is understood to be £500,000 plus add ons.

There was talk earlier in the off-season that Rodgers had a £60m transfer budget - and that he'd be able to spend the Suarez money as well. So I'm hoping he still has another £50m or so to play with.

Seems like there are rumors of Agger going to Arsenal and Borini to Sunderland may not be completely dead yet.

On the incoming side, Moreno is close, or not, depending on where the rumors are coming from. Bony is still in play as Swansea City are now apparently ready to let him go for less than his release clause. And there have been a few other names attached to LFC as well, though seemingly more longshots... Xabi Alonso, Dani Alves, Marco Reus, etc.

As someone just getting into the sport and the team, is this type of transfer window typical or is this particularly busy/crazy? Obviously, LFC needed to bring in a lot of talent to compete in the Champions League, and they needed to replace Saurez as well, but for you long time supporters of the club, have any summer transfer windows rivaled this one in terms of the transfers in and out?

For sheer craziness, it's tough to rival the last day of the January window in 2011 when Suarez and Carroll came in and Torres went out, all within a couple of hours.  2004 also stands out when Rafa sold Owen and brought in Alonso, Luis Garcia, and a few other Spanish players.

This one may have the most players coming in that I can remember, because they had really reduced the size of the squad the last couple of years.

One of the first rules of silly season: Don't expect your club to actually spend its entire reported "transfer budget" or, even worse, its "war chest."

I completely agree that the option to buy Manquillo for 5M pounds seems way too low. Maybe Manquillo wants to play in England and, as a result, forced Atletico into agreeing to this clause. At the same time, Atletico is loaning Manquillo so that he can get experience and replace Juanfran in two years. I think Atletico has buy-back option, but the whole thing is strange to me.

If Zomp comes back into this thread because of this, I'm holding you personally responsible.
