Zomp's too busy salivating over how United are about to sign Sneijder,Vidal, Kroos, Di Maria, Lavezzi, Reus, Falcao, Cavani, Mangala, Alexis, Arjen Robben, Hummels, and maybe a cheeky last minute bid for Zidane since Cleverly didn't work out to come back to this thread

This would have been a much more effective post from one of the Liverpool guys. Or from really anyone other than Snakebauer or LTF.

City - where selling Jack Rodwell for a 5M loss is step in the right (financial fair play) direction.

To be fair, "Sneijder to Man Utd" has been rumored in every transfer window for nearly a decade.

True. And now that there is a coach there who knows him intimately, it has even less chance of happening. Please, keep him far away from TtP or more children might be traumatized.

The thought of Robben to United just...the universe would collapse under the sheer force of my hatred.

Zomp has a more realistic view on transfers than your typical United fan.  That would be like me asking if this hurt:

Stop hatin' on my team for being so fucking awesome.  It's City, it'll get fucked up in the end.  And the joke was how United fans are delusional about what type of player they can sign these days, so their ownership winds them up every summer linking them to the big names and then they sign Phil Jones.

Which Zomp clearly got.  I hope that tattoo hurt the shit out of the guy who got it, if it isn't a photoshop.  It's bald Rooney and he looks close enough to Iniesta that maybe it can be shaved when we buy him for Melbourne FC and loan him back to MCFC :)

Falcao makes about 15 million pounds per year after tax (0%, since he's in Monaco).  In British terms that's about 290K per week.  And he's coming off an ACL injury.

Unless he wants to take a huge pay cut, he's not coming to Liverpool.

Jason McAteer providing analysis on LFC TV at halftime:

LFC TV host: "Who do you want to see come on in the second half?"
McAteer: "I don't know."

That filled me with all the excitement I had when I'd see his name on the team sheet.

4-0 over a quality opponent. Lovren and Manquillo looked great, Sturridge, Coutinho, and Sterling were dangerous in attack, Mignolet had very little to do, and nobody got hurt.  That's about as perfect as a final friendly before the season starts can go.

If this story in The Mirror is to be believed, Moreno will be coughing for Dr. Zaf after the Super Cup on Tuesday.
Um, er... Maybe not.

Sevilla president Jose Castro says that no deal has yet been agreed with Liverpool for the sale of full-back Alberto Moreno.

Goal understands that the Reds made a breakthrough in negotiations earlier in August as they chase a £16 million deal for the 22-year-old.

However, while Castro confirmed that negotiations with the Merseysiders have taken place and that the Spain international will leave if his valuation is met, he insists that no agreement is imminent.

JayMags, what is the genesis of your obsession with this kid?  I am being sincere in my question.  At this point, I am picturing you outside of his house in Sevilla, leaning against a Vespa, while hiding your eyes underneath a Fedora, and smoking Marlboro reds.

Estadio Deportivo today is still running with the story that he wants to play one more game against Real in the Super Cup.

Googlebot sez:

Everything OK
The basis of the final agreement sat last week after a successful meeting with Ian Ayre , Liverpool chief executive, and now it is at the expense of advertising the transfer.
The main reason that has not yet been officially pass has its reason in the Supercopa . Just days to play against Real Madrid , which has for cerreño already agreed duration of his contract and emolumentos-, the ability to lift his second title with the team they love is a compelling enough reason for postponing his farewell, so the meeting next Tuesday in Cardiff will, for him, very much flavor farewell.
Monchi said this week that the side would play the Super Cup and, for now, a statement which came to confirm that Alberto wants to play before making a trip, if possible, leave the title under his arm is. And is that the squad will start in Cardiff despite the potential physical risks that could frustrate the operation. Emery trusts him and is giving a lot of minutes in the preseason because he is assigned to cover the mission of Gareth Bale in the final showcase luxury to claim the amount of a signing with quantities already agreed.

I truely don't think you have been Corsi-ing anything.  I was just wondering where you picked up this affection for the kid.  You are approaching DLew levels of man love here.  All jokes aside, I have faith in a Enrique/Flanno partnership if that is what we kick off the season with.  I know I am in the minority here, but I think the squad, as is, can push for the title.  Too much tinkering can have adverse effects.  Ask Mssr Houllier.

This strikes me as a fallback for a single season that they'd jump to because the Falcao, Cavani, Lavezzi types aren't going to work out. It's not ideal, but I think his skill set fits nicely with the whirling, all-angles attack Rodgers likes in the final third. That relies on skill in tight spaces and the ability to slip a defender, which Eto'o still seems to have despite losing some pace.

I'm really not too worried about the attack at this point, even with Suarez gone. The friendlies showed a side that could still bewilder top-end defenses with creative passing and ball control. My main concern is still the transition from attack to defense. Too many times last season the CBs were left exposed, and while Skrtel does many things well, he still lets the striker get too much space. Someone like Can is going to have to force the opposing counter-attack to slow down or make a perfect pass to create a chance, and I don't see that yet.

Kolo Touré looks set for Trabzonspor on a £1.6m deal - pretty decent to get a fee for him considering it's the last year of his contract and they got him on a free.

Hopefully this increases the chances of Agger staying, but I have a feeling the depth chart will shake out to be Lovren, Sakho, Skrtel, Coates, Ilori with Kelly providing additional cover.

BBC Sport is reporting that Moreno is in (12M), Martin Kelly is out (1.5M from Crystal Palace). Of course, still need to wait for the ink to be dry, but a pretty nice development.

Liverpool have agreed a £12m fee with Sevilla for defender Alberto Moreno.
The 22-year-old Spain international has been withdrawn from tonight's Uefa Super Cup match and is expected on Merseyside for a medical later in the week.
Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has spent the day in Cardiff finalising the deal and will be a guest of Sevilla's at tonight's game against Real Madrid.
Martin Kelly is now expected to leave Anfield to join Crystal Palace.
The England international, 24, will have a medical with the Eagles in the next 24 hours after the clubs agreed an initial fee of £1.5m, rising to £2m.

I had high hopes for Kelly when he first came through the system.  Too bad he couldn't stay healthy.

Great news about Moreno.  One more striker and I think we are done for this window.

I agree - I'd love to see a big, splashy striker sign - Cavanni, but the more I think about it, the more I think that BR will employ multiple "false 9's" with Sturridge up on the point of a 4-3-3.  Coutinho as a true attacking midfielder in a 10 role with Sterling on a flank, Henderson as a floating midfielder in that midfield 3 covering every inch and blade of grass on the pitch, and Gerrard as the deep lying defensive midfielder.  They can add Llanna or Markovic out wide on the other flank once fully fit.  They might not break 100 scored this year, but I think they'll come close.

A little research is in order

"He'll hopefully be around then [against Southampton], but if not then he certainly will for the next game," the boss told reporters following the 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.

"He had a slight problem with his tendon, but he's up to speed.

"He's working with our sports science team, he's looking very strong and if he just misses out, he certainly should be available for the next game."

Liverpool-City from last season is about to start on NBCSN if you're so inclined to watch (at least on the East Coast).
I still have the original recording saved on my DVR.

Word out of Italy is that Liverpool are interested in Sergio Romero, currently with Sampdoria but last seen between the sticks for Argentina in the World Cup final.  He'd certainly be an upgrade on Jones, and we're seeing multiple clubs with two #1 keepers this summer, so it seems plausible.

I'd usually take an unsourced story like this with many grains of salt, but as I recall, Gianluca DiMarzio also had the Evra-to-Juve story on the heels of Evra signing his extension at Man U.

Don't know much about this guy, but I wonder if he'd be good enough as the #1 keeper. I'm not sold on Mignolet at all.
