Somebody needs to tell these assholes that Manny Ramirez has never tested positive, admitted to using, or has ever been implicated of using steroids. They talk about about the 103 names on the 2003 testing list as if it's a foregone conclusion that he's on it. We get it guys, you both hate Manny, He didn't play "the game" with everyone. Get over it.

The whole Manny Ramirez argument is stupid no matter what medium a person is in. He's such a polarizing figure that you either like him or don't and all the wailing and gnashing of teeth from one side is never, ever going to change the other side's opinion of him.

It's the Roe v Wade of Red Sox arguments.

I'm not a D&C hater but these guys were awful this am. They were rude, condescending and had no interest in what their guest had to say. In reality she was superfluous to their Manny hate.
Couldn't agree more. They were attacking her as though she were Manny Ramirez, not someone who wrote a book about Manny Ramirez.

Really terrible job by them.

From this blog I found called "Iggy You Ignorant Slut" (no, really...it's an entire blog dedicated to criticizing Iggy the producer on the D&C show, I shit you not...http://shutiggyup.blogspot.com/ God bless America. )

When John announced in the first hour of the show that we would not be hearing any annoying cut-ins from Iggy for a few days, my heart leapt (SIC) with joy. Unfortunately, I soon learned that this was not due to any disciplinary or punitive action, but merely the result of Sir Rantsalot taking some time off. Still, John, Gerry, Meter and Chach all seemed to be revelling (SIC) in the peace and quiet of the Iggy-free zone.
The blogger than smoothly transitions into a rant about art projects in the stimulus package, and how Iggy should explain that. I am laughing my ass off right now.

To end the interview with Sean Casey today, they asked him if he was "hanging out with Hazel Mae after hours" now that he's at the MLB Network.

I know they're jerks and that's their thing, but I found this ultra-sleazy.

Good Lord! I had to look because I didn't think there was any way that someone would need to blog about the producer for a couple of bottom-feeding douchenozzles. This country may actually be in more trouble than originally thought. Wow!

Aside from it implying something going on between Hazel Mae and her married co-worker?

I get that sports radio is one big He-Man, Woman-Haters club. Doesn't mean I have to like it.
Are you serious??? They weren't implying anything, it was a flippin joke because he now gets to work with an attractive (to some) woman. You are reading way too much into this, if you were offended by this I suggest you stay away from the Big Show.

And I do (As I do 90% of WEEI). I listened that day because of the person being interviewed.

I didn't hear the D&C interview with the Manny Psychologist that everyone here hated, but I have to admit, now that Callahan has had a chance to read the book, he has done a complete 180 on the subject matter.

I don't know if that was because nagement told him to or what, but short of apologizing he has pretty much come out and said the book isn't as bad as he thought it was going to be as reported in the "Inside Track" and has kind of issued a couple Mea Culpas to the psychologist.

He-Man, Woman-Haters club?? They made a joke about Sean Casey hanging out with Hazel Mae after hours. They were doing it to lighten the mood and get a laugh out of Casey and the listeners. I hear way more "sleazy" things every day on the Radio, on TV, on the train, walking down the street etc.

Relax. It must suck to go through life so uptight.

Yes, because Casey is generally a dark and humorless fellow.

Not uptight at all, thanks. Just think sports radio needs to jump into the 21st Century when it comes to acknowledging women fans exist.

And the "he man woman haters" reference I'm going to guess you're too young to remember.

No offense, but why? Women are not their core demographic, men ages 18-54 (I think 54) are, and just about every male that heard that comment probably chuckled. Now you may have a bigger problem with men still chucking at that, but you might as well tell us that porn degrades women too, it isn't going to make a difference because you aren't and probably never will be EEI's target demographic.

Just like Howard Stern isn't for everyone (I'm not a fan), neither is sports talk radio.

Pluse you don't even listen most of the time per your quote:

It's not like finding Casey being interviewed is a hard thing to do, why would EEI care about offending you if you aren't a regular listener anyway?

Not offended at all, excellent question really. But that's part of my issue (not with D&C specifically so this is the wrong thread for this really). Women don't fit into their core demographic because they refuse to acknowledge women as genuine parts of the sports fanbase. Which is why I (and others) don't listen. They're classified as either "fans of a lessor stature than I" who follow sports just because there are cute guys playing or people who need to be told what a balk is and to be kept away from the television on Sundays. Why would I listen to something that sees me as a non-entity? The thing is, I WANT to listen. I want to be able to listen to sports radio without coming away wondering why I did.

In any event, both characterizations are outdated and inaccurate. I don't expect everyone here to agree with me, but then again, my complaining about it is no different than someone else bitching about the ongoing tirades against Manny.

I think you're reading too much into it. Listen to almost any radio station today and you'll hear programming that is designed for a specific demographic. As HB mentioned, WEEI targets 18-54 YO men. What you're hearing as a conscious rejection of a female audience is likely instead an attempt to appeal to the target demographic. Your quarrel should be with the tastes of those people, or with the perception that they're interested in that talk, rather than with WEEI. While you're at it, please convince the 18-54 YO female-targeting stations that we're tired of hearing the same seven songs from 1997. Sarah McLaughlin is over.

For the record, I'm not a WEEI listener.

Tomorrow there is going to be a show at 9, and Bradford will join D&C.

Should be an interesting combination, and worth giving a few minutes to...

Anyone know what this is all about? The blog played it off as some big misunderstanding, but I figure there's gotta be more to it than Youk just hearing second-hand that they'd been bashing his wife. Is there some history between Youk and the show?

Last year in Ft. Myers Meter tried to get Youk to come on the show. Youk declined because he heard D&C were talking about his wife ("Youk married up."). From time to time, Callahan would mention that Youk hates them. At first, D&C became petty and wondered when Casey would be taking AB's from Youk. As the season went on, they gave Youk a fair shake from what I listened to.

I get where he's coming from, but he's a star athlete who just married Ben Affleck's ex-girlfriend. Little naive to think people aren't gonna talk about it. And saying he married up isn't exactly controversial.

Nothing more to it than what was mentioned above on D&C's side, aside from his production I'm not a Youkilis fan, I can't stand his antics and thought it was great when Manny smacked him around in the dugout.

Meter was carrying Youkilis' water while he was riding the Merloni shuttle so he was pretty excited when they thought that they would get a sitdown with him. Then Callahan I think saw a photo of his wife and said that "Youk's married up." He's an ugly guy that married up and only got her because he was a ballplayer, he's probably insecure about that but who knows.

I'm not sure when, I think it was later that season Youk was on with Dale and Holley and he gave a thinly veiled shot that he won't go on other shows and the Married Up comment is the only reason why.

I haven't heard the original "married up" comment, but isn't that usually intended as a compliment? As in "your wife is hot, good work"? Maybe there's something more, not even Youk could be this tightly wound.

I assume you have seen his tantrums after he strikes out with an 8 run lead. I think he is that tightly wound and I think he is probably a huge prick, he would be the most hated player by Sox fans if he played in NY. But luckily I root for laundry and he produces.

Bob Halloran has taken the CHB trail of douchebaggery further than Shank ever did. Doesn't matter what silver lining is discovered on the Boston sports scene, Halloran will find the dark cloud surrounding it. He's boring and his way of thinking is usually ignored, I have no idea why this guy keeps getting hired by Boston radio.

I mean have you ever heard of someone saying "Damn it! That Bob Halloran!"? We literally have had a thread about every Boston media person and this is one of the few times that anyone has brought up Halloran.

Good point, this morning he is taking the "Red Sox weren't fair to Varitek" card, despite all evidence against that from Felger and callers, he still contends the Sox should have paid Tek more. WTF, shut up.

At least Halloran had bothered to listen to what Varitek said about the negotiations. Felger obviously hadn't paid any attention to Varitek's spring training comments, and in fact acted like Halloran must have been mistaken when he correctly presented Varitek's position. It's one thing to argue that a player isn't being forthright, it's quite another to be just plain ignorant of what he said.

Chief among the errors was this line that opened up Chapter 3, "Boxing Day in England is a celebration of all professional boxers, like Irish Mickey Ward. This is ironic because the English don't like the Irish very much." Halloran then spends the rest of the chapter telling the reader what he did on Boxing Day 1997.

i dont know if it bothers anyone else, but it really bothers me that callahan keeps quoting schefter as saying that cassel is a "top 5 quarterback" when he never said that. The difference between what he actually said and that isnt really that much, since schefter actually said something like "cassel is between a top 5 and 8 qb" but Callahan is someone who randomly throws out quotes and stats all the time without saying where they came from. Also, Meter seems to be the only one of the 3 that realizes vrabel really isnt worth much anymore and clearly wasnt worth keeping for the price

i agree completely, but he hasnt gone off on any crazy hate filled political rants yet today and has been somewhat fair with questioning the pats on why they didnt get more or wait a little longer.

Perhaps not a rant, but he managed to drop a line about the Obama-recession into a Manny diatribe. That was too confusing for a Monday morning white-out snow commute.

A great conversation by two knowledgeable sports fans this morning:

Callahan: "I'm not excited about any of these WBC rosters. Even the United States...most of these guys I've never heard of"
Dennis: "Yeah"
Callahan: "Who's this...Mark DeRosa? Heath Bell was just added to the roster? Wow...Heath Bell. Who are these guys?"
Dennis: "Never heard of 'em"
Callahan: "The catcher for the US is...Chris Ianetta? Who...?"
Meterparel: "He's from Providence"
Callahan: "Of course you know who all these guys are, you're such a fantasy geek".

Both Dennis and Callahan are much much better when they are paired with different people. After GC was out because of his cancer I was surprised at how good Dennis was and assumed that was Callahan's fault, then last week when GC was on with Felger I heard how good that he could be.

The problem appears that they are too comfortable together (if that makes any sense). Dennis is happy to ignore Callahan and let him go off on his rants and Callahan is just as happy to oblige. Apart they are both very good to great, but together they become cartoons, it's really odd.

I thought some of the best radio I ever heard on that station was 2 years ago on a Sunday when Dennis and Ordway were debating the Randy Moss trade. When you switch up some of the personalities on that station, good things happen.

That's why WEEI is so frustrating. They are capable of good sports talk, but they seldom execute.

Maybe they should just switch it up a bit and see what happens. It might be the best of both worlds - the fans get more intelligent sports talk while the hosts don't lose their jobs.
