With regards to how his life would change, I beleive Gerry's response was something along the lines of, "Well, Iggy, it's not about me. It's about society. And society has continued to vote against this, so that's all that matters."

He's a world class douchebag.
I'm used to Callahan and I usually can't stand Iggy but Iggy was great today. I got pissed when Callahan tried to talk about it being a societal issue and Iggy kept taunting him with inter-racial marriage.

I yelled at Callahan in my car when he tried pulling that "Will of the people" "society is against it" shit.

Gave up on Toucher and Rich already?

I put it on D+C for about 2 mins this morning, and just couldn't do it. Most of the criticism already levied sums up what I have to say, but I can't take the political talk. At least when they try and talk sports, I can get upset, but still listen. Not with the political talk.

With the loss of Opie and Anthony (and excess of commercials on Toucher and Rich), I probably spend more time flipping stations than actually listening to anything. The state of morning radio is quite sad in the Boston market.

Your worst nightmare
My fervent, most sincere hope is that one day his son, if he has one and I assume he does, comes home some day, maybe when the lad is like 21, and says to Klannahan, "Dad, I want you to meat the most important person in my life. We intend to wed on the morrow. And here he is." I would make a mephistophelean bargain to be given the opportunity to see him enter into cardiac arrest. No doubt his heart muscle would seize like an engine losing its motor oil, for no doubt he could not find kindness and acceptance in his heart for his son and man he loves. Klannahan deserves his nasty fate.
I'm with you on this, Sparky. I think it's called the "Anita Bryant Corollary"... the more fervent the homophobic one's parent is, the more likely the offspring will sprechen zie deutsch. Dick Cheney and Newt Gingrich (well, his sister) will attest.

I listened to the D&C show for a bit today, I had to turn it off twice because Gerry Callahan insinuated that Barack Obama is an anti-Semite (his exact words were, "All of his close inner circle buddies, like Louis Farakahan (spell?) are.") and that, and this is a direct quote, "The biggest abortion proponent ever is your President elect." EVER!

It's amazing to me that someone who writes and talks professionally for a living has such a poor, poor, poor grasp on simple English words and phrases.

Felger was on this morning and from what I listened to, he went after Callahan pretty hard on a couple of issues. And Callahan being the idiot that he was, would do what all children do when dealing with a tough subject, pick it a part and parse the question. Felger said something to the effect that there is no way that abortion should be legal during the third trimester and that women who have been raped or the victim of incest should be allowed to get abortions. To me, that makes sense, but to Callahan this is the first thing he asks, "What about five months?"

In all honesty, it's a valid question if you were interested in getting into a real philosophical discussion about a very complicated subject, but Callahan wasn't. He was just being a douche.

It's really nice having Felger as the backup when you consider a year ago at this time we would get Mustard and Johnson or someone like Steve Burton to fill in. And what about Meter getting the chance to shine being on the other side of the glass? The guy has some substance beyond his string of one-liners in a Flash segment. Tomorrow we get Felger teamed up with Tom E. Curran, which should bring good Pats talk.

I know that some probably found it irritating, but I was cracking up over Felger's "distaste" for Christmas this morning.

The line about "women in mini-vans blocking my way" was great.

Totally agree about the value of having Felger as a back-up, by the way. I guess we may not be hearing, "CALLAAAHHHH, HOW AHHHH YA THIS MAAAHHHNIN" after all...

Edit: http://audio.weei.com/m/audio/21709990/sara_underwood.htm (This is the link to the Christmas rants...pretty funny stuff).

I didn't hear it, but this line rings true. A few years back I got into an accident because a woman in a Pathfinder was about to Panzer my Honda Civic on her way back from maxing out her credit cards at Meadowglen Mall. Her two kids in the back seat sure enjoyed the show. And the Wallmart stampede...this day brings out the worst in a large chunk of the population.

That's just how we roll in Medford. Maybe she knew you were from Somerville? (Assuming the part of the proposed extension you live in is Somerville, of course)

Banner has been charged with two counts of criminal harassment, two counts of threats to commit a crime, and a single count of making annoying phone calls.

Too funny........D&C drove a Cambridge liberal NUTS ! Two years of calls is creepy though, especially from a 57 year old guy that most likely lives with his mom.

Let's play Ad-Libs ---

In an Oct. 30 message for Kahn, Banner allegedly said, “Shut Callahan up. Talk sports in the morning. You sleazy, dirty (expletive, expletive expletive).”

“You and your Ku Klux Klan partner should talk sports you (expletive, expletive). And the next thing too Dennis, when you talk about somebody’s look, look in the (expletive) mirror you donut-eating mother (expletive, expletive) sucker. You and your (expletive, expletive) daughter, die you son of a (expletive).”

The funny thing is, the tenor of the calls this creep made to D&C is just about the same as the tenor of the famous voice mail John Dennis left for Ryan Russillo:

"I'll kick your balls up around your ass."

"I don't know who the f*ck you are or what you do."

"You're a f*cking drunk."

"I'll rip your f*cking ears off and your nose off and shove them up your ass."

Now, this creep made repeated calls and Dennis made only one, but to me it's ironic that D&C are getting the same type of calls John Dennis had no trouble making himself.

He sounded drunk, but I think it was because he made the call on his way in to work at 3:30 or 4 AM.
I'm pretty sure he was actually drunk in it, I think it was a Friday night/Sat morn around 1 or 2am when the call was made. In fact, whenever someone mentions drinking or being hammered on WEEI, the "John Dennis....calling..." soundclip is played.

Burned . . . Blacklisted
Yeah, Russillo hit on her using phrases from "Anchorman." Real sly dog. :buddy:
Ahh, somehow I didn't know about this "incident" at all - explains why JMOH told me a few months back that there was no chance that Russillo ever gets a WEEI gig.

Too bad, he's always been pretty knowledgeable and entertaining, and would be good with Felger, as they worked well together when Felger was at ESPN.

Dennis is a fairly vestigial appendage on his own show now, he doesn't even play the "harbor pilot" role and more, keeping Callahan moving from topic to topic; he just rambles and laughs as Gerry rants.

I listened for five minute this morning on my way in to work. I heard John Dennis ask "What's Wakefield making this season?" He followed that beauty up a few minutes later by asking "is that the same shoulder Perk hurt before?"

What a fucking dumbass.

Yesterday was about banks, today was about the rock n' roll Hall of Fame, folks we're in the boring part of sports for D&C. And until they hit the picnic tables in Ft. Myers or something gigantic comes along, there's not going to be a lot of sports talk unless a guest is calling in.

Couple this with the inauguration next week and I think I'm going to be listening to anything but D&C. This is your warning.

You could just hear the disgust spewing from Callahan's mouth when Dennis said that Run DMC made it in. He said, "What? Do they let in any rapper that hasn't died?"

HAW! HAW! That Gerry Callahan wit is what makes him a must read in the Boston Herald.

Well, with the inauguration coming up and Bush's farewell speech last night, the crazies are coming back out of the wood work. Apparently Iggy called Bush a degenerate ( ) which prompted a series of callers to call in and threaten Iggy's life. Of course Callahan egged them on and told Iggy that it's disrespectful to call any President a degenerate. But if he was going to call a President a degenerate, he should get it right and call Clinton one.

It's too bad the inauguration is from 10-12 next week, but at least the hard right will be calling into D&C leading up to it

I'm glad I'm not the only only person noticing this. When they started out, it seemed more of an equal partnership. Now it seems like (on those rare occasions that I listen) Dennis is content to play a Bernie McGuirk/Gary Dell'Abate type role, where he's mostly deferential to KKKallahan's (sub-par) Stern/Imus impression.

Seels, Meter and John Dennis (yes, I was shocked) corrected him on this. Callahan just huramphed and moved on. Which is becoming Callahan's MO these days, a few days ago he was crabbing about the CRA and how the people who created this act are the ones to blame for the financial state that we're in today. "Can you imagine that they want to give loans to anyone who walks into a bank? That's why we're where we are," Callahan said.

A person who works for a bank called up and said that the CRA doesn't do that, but was created so that if you have the qualifications but live in a poor section, you would get the same loan consideration as someone who has the same qualifications but lives in a more affluent part of the state or town. He said that the CRA has nothing to do with approving people's loans and that you still have to have a good job, good credit, etc. Callahan shot back, "But what about blind loans? Huh, what about those?" The guy explained that the CRA has nothing to do with blind loans and those were given by greedy or idiotic loan officers.

Callahan listened to the guy (I guess, he could've been making the old jerk off motion) and when the guy hung up started on a rant about a story that he read recently where a woman was given a $150,000 mortgage despite the fact that she was on welfare making about $18,000 a year. He ended his rant by saying, "See? That's the CRA in action!"

It's not that Callahan is a border-line racist, it's that he's such a fucking idiot that he will only stick to what he thinks he knows. No matter how many times he's proven incorrect, he still falls back on his initial thought. And this is why Gerry Callahan has the mind of a young child. He doesn't learn, he doesn't comprehend things, he doesn't understand. My daughter is 15 months old, every night she stands in the tub. Every night my wife and I tell her to sit down or she's going to fall. Every night she falls and freaks herself out. One of these days, something is going to click. The same can't be said for Callahan.

Praise where praise is due, Gerry Callahan did a really good job grilling "betting guru" Brandon Lang today. His claim to fame is that he has gone undefeated in the last 18 Super Bowls and Callahan just wouldn't let it go and demanded to see proof.

Lang seemed like a real douche, he was the subject of the Matthew McConaughey and Al Pacino flick "Two For the Show", and was dropping names like there was no tomorrow. Entertaining radio segment.

Shit. You're right. My bad.

When I looked at my post after I was done, "Two for the Show" didn't seem to make much sense.

And the way this guy got his movie made was that he was a caddy on a golf course in Hollywood and would bug every producer, writer, actor, etc that he took around the course into making this movie. His own words were, "I'm a salesman. Five hours on the course with me and I'd get them to run down the street naked singing Kum-bye-ah."

That's who I'd want caddying for me, a guy who wouldn't shut the fuck up about how awesome he is.

The were berating the Arizona offense this morning for allowing Harrison to run the INT back. At one point Meter said "Where was the Ben Watson on that play?" Dennis replied "With the speed of guys like Boldin and Fitz it's inexcusable for those guys to give up and they just figured someone else would tackle him."(paraphrasing but Fitz was mentioned as a guy not hustling) Did they even watch the game? It baffles me that not one of the three could remember during all those replays from the challenge that you could see Fitz sprinting and leaping over people to final make the tackle. Yeah it was 1/2 yard too late but that is almost exactly what Ben Watson did (minus the strip).

D&C had a doctor, Jean Rhodes, on this morning who has written a book about Manny. She said 4 years of research went into the book including talking to every coach he's ever had, teammates, front office people, even cafeteria workers from his HS days. It was painful to listen to. D&C basically took their hatred (not a strong enough word) of Manny out on her. They only wanted to focus on the negative parts of Manny's personality. When she didnt slam Manny they'd basically insult her (shocking). It sounded like she tried to present some reasons why Manny acts the way he does and even does a full psychological profile of him in the last chapter. I didnt get the impression she was defending him, but more giving some background on his life. Of course, D&C repeatedly said this book was enabling him and when she tried to talk about his personality they talked (yelled) over her. She said Manny was an interesting guy, which I can believe. She basically said he's wired differently than most people which is both a strength and a weakness.

Product Description
Authorized by the future Hall of Famer himself, and written by a clinical psychologist and an award-winning investigative journalist, Becoming Manny is the incredible story behind one of the greatest baseball sluggers of all time. Manny Ramirez ranks seventeenth in career home runs and eighth in career slugging percentage -- the only players above him on both lists are Barry Bonds, Jimmie Foxx, and Babe Ruth.
Becoming Manny brings an unusually thoughtful analysis to the territory of sports biography, examining Manny's life through the lens of larger issues such as mentoring and immigration, while also telling the story of a great career. Manny has perplexed the baseball world for years now with his amazing hitting and his unique approach to life and to the game. Incredibly focused at the plate yet carefree everywhere else, Manny has become a constant topic of discussion on national sports radio and television, on sports websites, and in print.

With unprecedented access, Jean Rhodes and Shawn Boburg have uncovered fascinating stories and family photos spanning Manny's early years to the present. This is an authorized inside look at the roots, development, and career of an individual and player on his way from the Dominican Republic and Wash-ington Heights to the Hall of Fame.

The interview could have been a disaster, but their over the top hate of Manny brought out the best in her. She did a great job summing up the research she did and the general focus of the book.

First thing I did when I got to work was pre-order the book on amazon. I'd rate the interview as a smashing success for Jean Rhodes.

You didn't get the memo? PhD = elitist. This woman is obviously a quack from the ivory towers of academia, and she's using bullshit psychobabble to excuse the bad behavior of yet another Dominican diva. Psychology is a junk science, everyone is dealt the exact same cards in life. You are either a stoic company man or you are a lazy malcontent, there is no gray area.

it was painful to listen to at points, as she responded to every question with a legit well reasoned response. She did herself proud as I somehow thought at some point Callahan or Dennis would admit ok we only read the clippings in the Inside Track... and say ok you aren't defending Manny here. Repeatedly asked why he didn't visit the kids with cancer or the vets...Manny is not normal guys sorry he's an a-hole in many people's book because of such things.

Really? More Manny talk?

They should just take the shows that they've done in May, June, July and August of last year and rerun them. Nothing has changed.
