Piker. Everyone knows you wait until Game 4 of the World Series to exercise your opt-out, not Game 3.

This comment deserves more love.

I thought the Dodgers for sure, but the Cubs makes perfect sense.  Wasn't he the other finalist when Theo hired Francona to manage the Sox?

I would feel bad for Rays fans if there were any or if their announcers hadn't treated that team like God's Gift to Baseball for the past six years.

Edit: I think that's a Chris Rock quote?

So I guess this is the right thread:

Crossposting from the other one:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he will end up managing the Dodgers.

But, at the fear of being lynched here, would anyone like to see him managing the Red Sox?

Ironically (or maybe not), it's a Maddon thing. Looks like his work is done there.

Dear Steve Simmons, what the hell is an "unconfirmed rumor"? A rumor is a rumor.

See ya later, Professor Maddon. Maybe he'll bring his intellectual mystique and aura to the Harvard nine.

If he goes Cubbies, you can expect Shields this winter and Price next winter.

With their young bats, the Cubs are about to become scary in the next couple of years.

Maddon wanted nothing to do with the 90-loss Rays seasons on the horizon.

Rotate this...Girardi to the Cubs, Mattingly to the MFY's and Maddon to the Dodgers.

I wonder who the minority candidate will be who gets the mandatory useless interview from the team that fires its manager to hire Maddon

So Joe has a restaurant opening in Tampa next week and he might just sit out a year and focus on that?  Yeah, right.  Or he could partner up with Harold Reynolds and Joe Buck on Fox!!

Probably the same guy who gets that interview with the Rays...he's going to be busy this winter. But that's OK, he gets the summer off.

Cubs make a ton of sense, but a pretty dick move to can Renteria after he really did the best with what he could.
yea, the entire reason they hired him was the young talent was underperforming. I don't know how he is as an on field manager, but the Cubs had a very positive season.

I'd think the Rays would almost certainly elevate Dave Martinez.

<p>Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst  58s58link to tweet seconds ago The more I hear from sources who have spoken with #Rays more convinced I am that there was almost no offer that could have kept Maddon there Sounds like he wanted out
Read the writing on the wall .. Lost your genius GM, bad farm system , declining major league team , Shrinking payroll, crappy park And if he goes to the Cubs .. Excellent GM, great farm system , improving major league team .. Payroll about to expand greatly , great ballpark and a big personal payday .. Gee not exactly a difficult.choice.Not to mention in the NL he can do stupid shit like batting the pitcher 8th or triple switches .

Unlikely.

First, that would be a huge weasel move by Maddon.  He'd be taking the job of a guy with whom he worked closely for a long time.

Second, when's the last time a manager whose team won the most games in MLB got fired?

Third, Scioscia has 4/~$20mm left on his deal.  No way Arte is eating all of that to pay another guy 5/$25mm.
