Listening to these guys for updates on the Pats is like listening to Tucker Carlson for updates on the Democratic presidential candidates.I've been listening today for updates on the Pats and FA. Wow, this is cringeworthy radio. It's kind of sad.
I heard about 10 minutes yesterday while driving around in my car and I have to say that Felger was absolutely pathetic. He was ripping on Pats fans for not being more angry that the team didn't resign Patterson. And a few callers said that he wasn't worth the extra money and that he was a good player, but not one that you spend over what you think he's worth. Which I think is a pretty reasonable take.
Felger flips out. "Either you like the player or you don't! You all said how great he was in November and now you don't think that you should sign him? Everything that this team does is always so right and everyone else is dumb. Why wouldn't you sign the guy, he only makes 5% of your salary cap!"
Well was it 10 minutes or 20 minutes??? You Pats fans are unbelievable and have such a short memory you can't even remember how much time you spent listening to the show over the course of 40 minutes!!!! Give me a break. In the 20 minutes that I was listening, and that's a SSS I know, he was just flailing around. Then they start back in with the Garrapolo talk and I'm like, since the Pats traded him they've been to back-to-back Super Bowls, winning one of them. Felger was saying that they should have gotten more for him (debatable, Belichick doesn't provide his thinking for trades, so I don't know -- and neither does Felger) but Maz was pissed that they didn't keep him. "They should have signed him, Mike. Anything he wanted. He should still be in New England."
To be fair, Felger's been pushing for 20-man rosters for years.[snip]

Eh, I think it's a lot like Ordway 10 years ago. Nothing is going to change on the afternoon show until EEI hires a valid team that can counter his schtick and have sustained success or the Patriots and Red Sox start sucking consistently and people start tuning out.I have to think that a producer or whomever is appropriate will encourage him to tone the attacking of listeners down a bit. Their constant berating of Pats fans and Green Teamers has to rub a good portion of the listeners the wrong way. Maybe the strategy is paying of for them. Maybe more people like to "hate listen" to them than those that don't. Seems unsustainable to me.
I don't recall the Monday after the KC win being negative, if anything I thought they said the team and fans deserved to gloat for the next few days and cut people off when they wanted to complain but I could have that mistaken with another big win.I really think Felger died a little bit inside when the Pats won this year. It took a lot of the wind out of his sails and he has become a sarcastic sad caricature of himself. What was really telling to me was how angry he was after the Kansas City game. The Monday after that game he was pissed and it was some of the worst radio I can remember after a iconic win. In hindsight, he probably realized his fate at that moment.
Up through the end of the season (and maybe into the playoffs, I can't remember) one of the teasers that they used to play going into commercial and coming out was Felger saying to a caller something like "They just don't have it this year, how is me saying that negative." He was "all-in" on this not being their year, and was dreaming about an off-season of dissecting all of the mistakes they made and cracks in the Pats armor. This all went up in smoke when they won.I really think Felger died a little bit inside when the Pats won this year. I think the Patriots losing the Superbowl would have been the dream scenario for him. "I don't know how they could have won, maybe if Brady showed up for one practice that wasn't required, or if Bill had just let Guerrero do his thing or if Gronk hadn't spent the offseason flirting with the WWF."Up through the end of the season (and maybe into the playoffs, I can't remember) one of the teasers that they used to play going into commercial and coming out was Felger saying to a caller something like "They just don't have it this year, how is me saying that negative." He capitulated prior to that, but it was in the postseason. I don't recall the game, but they pulled a win out of their ass and Mazz said everything was going their way and there was no stopping them,The same exact thing happened the entire Red Sox season with Mazz. Day-after-day discussing all the fatal flaws right up until Game 5 in LA.
Mazz has consistently and constantly said that he cannot enjoy a Red Sox season until he knows "they're for real". Usually that realization occurs in the World Series and then he's on board. Which means that he spends 95% of a season bitching about the team.He capitulated prior to that, but it was in the postseason. Who are you talking about? One of the morning guys? I can't listen to either of them. Our local radio guy here, who during the season was like a Kellerman Jr, is pretty much on the same wagon as Felger. "I can't believe you Pats' fans aren't more up in arms about this team and their lack of moves! Last year was a fluke, people. It will not go that way next year" The only difference is I know him personally and he admits he just says stuff to get people to call in. The Super Bowl did indeed break him and he knows there isn't any real criticism he can dish out. So he just fakes it.
Afternoon guys. PM JabWho are you talking about? One of the morning guys? I can't listen to either of them.
One day BB the GM is going to kill BB the Coach, Mike! Right? I mean we all knew Bill was an awful GM, Mike! Tom Brady can't play forever Mike, but they had to plan to replace him!i understand felgar and mazz want to hot take and throw stuff aga the wall it does get them high ratings
but the pats will decline 1 day and then they will whine about that
What's the saying, Trading horses for show ponies? The narrative for the next few days is going to be, they let Flowers go so they wouldn't have to pay him and the could accumulate more draft picks, they didn't want to pay the extra million for Tate and other and let them slip away, want to rebuild through the draft and what has Bill really done there lately.
Francesan.Mazz thinks this is the former Patriot. Someone must have stolen his phone.
I caught that part of the interview too. Pretty funny. I'm not sure I agree with his 4% assessment, but I don't think as many people think it is rigged as Tony thinks do.First time I tuned in to F&M in a long time because Wyc is on now. Wyc calls Mazz a troll for clickbait and wanting to go viral over his "rigged lottery" take.
